If you were a big Hillary Clinton fan in 2008 and signed up for the then-New York senator’s e-mail blasts and fund-raising pitches, you may soon be hearing from another political candidate: Chris Kelly, a Democrat running for California attorney general.

Kelly, an executive at Facebook, has put $4 million of his own money into his campaign. And $31,692.40 of it went to buying up the e-mail addresses of Hilary Clinton’s California supporters during her 2008 bid for president, according to campaign fillings.

Robin Swanson, a Kelly spokeswoman, said Kelly was an ‘early and long supporter of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in the primary’ after he worked as an aide in the White House in the early 1990s, and it was a ‘natural fit for him to buy the list.’

‘Just as the same way you would buy voter mail lists, [now] people buy voter e-mail lists,’ she said.
