Director Kevin Smith turned his recent experience getting kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight into a public relations bonanza.

Among those taken by Smith’s tale was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who reached out to Smith to participate in this week’s obesity summit, which Schwarzenegger hosted with former President Bill Clinton. Smith apparently missed the invitation but caught up with Schwarzenegger by phone today.

He wrote about the conservation on his Twitter account. ‘I swear this happened. I’m not stoned. Well -- no more than usual, anyway,’ Smith wrote. ‘I explained that, while I’m fat, my Southwest Air incident had nothing to do with fat,” as much as poor customer service “and a corporate lie,’ he said.

Smith even gave the governor a little unsolicited political advice. “I said ‘Gov -- can I give you a piece of California advice?’ He said sure,’ Smith wrote. ‘I said ‘Before you ever leave office, legalize weed. Lead the way. You know it’s the right thing to do.’ He laughed and said goodbye.’
