Sure, the gubernatorial primary is still five months away, but the race between Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner begins Jan. 26. That’s the day Whitman’s new book, “The Power of Many: Values for Success in Business and in Life,” hits the stands.

Not to be outdone, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, Whitman’s chief rival for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, is also getting into the act. Poizner’s forthcoming “Mount Pleasant: My Journey from Creating a Billion-Dollar Company to Teaching at a Struggling Public High School” will hit the shelves on April 1. Democrat Jerry Brown apparently harbors no such literary ambitions, but he is the subject of a couple of unofficial biographies, including 1976’s “Jerry Brown: High Priest and Low Politician” and “Jerry Brown: The Man on the White Horse.” Not to mention the Dead Kennedys’ song, ‘California Uber Alles.’
