Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has set an April 13 special election to fill the Assembly seat vacated by Paul Krekorian, who was elected to the Los Angeles City Council. The field is already getting crowded. Three Democrats have declared their candidacy for the 43rd District. Attorney Mike Gatto is a former district director for Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) and has the backing of former Assemblyman Dario Frommer. Glendale school board member Nayiri Nahabedia has been endorsed by of much of the district’s Armenian Democratic leadership. City Hall staffer Andrew Westall, who works for L.A. Councilman Herb Wesson, is also seeking the seat. If no candidate receives 50% of the vote in the election, the highest vote-getter from each party will go to a June 8 runoff. The 43rd Assembly District includes most of the cities of of Glendale and Burbank, as well as parts of the city of Los Angeles including Atwater Village, Los Feliz, North Hollywood and Silver Lake. -- Anthony York in Sacramento
