Prince Frederic for governor? [Updated]

January 25, 2010 | 12:59 pm
California already has a native-born Austrian in the governor’s office. Could a German-born socialite be next?

Prince Frederic von Anhalt, the ninth husband of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor announced his gubernatorial candidacy today.

"When I came to California 26 years ago, we had the 'good life.' We were prosperous; people had jobs, affordable homes and money to spend," he said in a statement obtained by KTLA-TV Channel 5. "The economy was great. I loved the state so much that I decided to make my home here, marry and become a citizen."

Of course, Prince Frederic begins his bid far behind French-born Guess Jeans founder Georges Marciano, who has already donated $1 million to his gubernatorial effort.
