EVENT: Public health interventions to fight obesity

Rand Extra weight isn’t just a cosmetic issue — by contributing to such medical issues as diabetes, hypertension and depression, it’s a public health concern as well. So if you’re tired of hearing that Americans weigh too much and you’d rather hear what policymakers can do about it, head to Rand Corp. in Santa Monica next week for a lively discussion about the role of the community in promoting healthy habits.

For example, what can local activists do to encourage healthy behaviors, such as biking to work? What can be done to counteract fast-food advertising campaigns?

The media advisory says refreshments will be served, but no word yet on how healthy those snacks will be.
