The Health section doesn’t write often about celebrity battles with disease or the related calls for awareness. Actors, musicians and entertainers, it could be argued (or stated), get their fair share of coverage elsewhere. For us, health and medical news is most relevant when it involves people who struggle without the attention-getting benefits of fame.

But our Show Tracker friends have a necessarily different worldview, and they’ve brought us: Randy Jackson opens up about gastric bypass surgery and his struggles with Type 2 diabetes.

And besides, at this point, I’m more interested in those celebrities, if there are any left, who aren’t trying to raise awareness. They’re rare.
