LIBYA: Rebels discover tank cache [video]

August 24, 2011 |  5:49 pm

Libyan rebels in the coastal town of Zlitan posted video on Facebook Wednesday purportedly showing a huge cache of tanks they had discovered that apparently belonged to Moammar Kadafi's forces.

The video is titled "Battalion Marina."

"A new 450-tank battalion, which was found by the marina in one of the stores in the area in the city of Madjer Zliten," the caption says.

In the video, tanks appear lined up in some sort of hangar or warehouse the size of a football field. The roof seems to have collapsed, with panels hanging atop some tanks. A man can be seen walking among the tanks, examining them.

At one point, the man climbs atop a tank turret, raises his fists in the air and shouts, "God is great!"

The man who is filming joins in.

The video could not be independently verified.

It was not clear whether the tanks were functional, although the thought inspired some Twitter traffic.
