LIBYA: First rebel government news conference Tripoli [video]

August 25, 2011 |  3:37 pm

Leaders of the Libyan rebel Transitional National Council held a news conference in Tripoli on Thursday, with video posted online.

They now plan to move from Benghazi to Tripoli. But the news conference wasn't about that. The goal appeared to be to inspire confidence from other countries (with promises to honor obligations to other governments) and from Libya's own embattled population.

There was much talk of "free Libya," the martyrs and "the new Libya." Also requests for "our revolutionaries" to lay down their arms and respect the rule of law.
