A protester was killed by ‘random gunfire’ as police tried to disperse an anti-government demonstration in southern Yemen, a local official told Reuters on Thursday.

‘At least one person has been killed, and there are eight others that were wounded by random gunfire,’ said the official, who is a member of the municipal council but declined to be named by Reuters.
