An Egyptian prosecutor said on Thursday he had ordered the detention of two ex-ministers and a prominent businessmen pending trial on suspicion of wasting public funds, according to Reuters.

The prosecutor, who deals with financial crimes, said he detained former tourism minister Zuhair Garana, the previous housing minister Ahmed el-Maghrabi and steel magnate Ahmed Ezz for 15 days.

Suspicions of official graft helped fuel popular anger that led to the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak last week, and the charges are seen as a concession to quell the unrest.
