Cannes 2011: Un Certain Regard prizes go to Kim Ki-duk and Andreas Dresen films

Kim Ki-duk’s ‘Arirang’ and Andreas Dresen’s ‘Halt Auf Freier Strecke’ shared top honors when prizes were announced for the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard category Saturday.
‘Arirang,’ the first feature in three years from the respected South Korean filmmaker, has been described as a self-portrait that Kim not only wrote and directed but also stars in. Shot almost entirely in one room, the film takes its title from a Korean folk song. German drama ‘Halt Auf Freier Strecke’ (‘Stopped on Track’) tells the story of a brain cancer patient (Milan Peschel) struggling to come to terms with his terminal illness.
Serbian auteur Emir Kusturica headed the Un Certain Regard jury.
