AFI Fest 2009 has announced the first 12 films to screen at this year's festival, which runs from Oct. 30 to Nov. 7 in Los Angeles. The lineup includes such highlights of the Toronto International Film Festival as Werner Herzog's "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" (pictured) and Lee Daniels' "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire," as well as "Mother," the latest from "The Host" director Bong Joon-ho, Marco Bellochio ("Vincere"), and festival mainstays Ken Loach ("Looking for Eric"), Claude Chabrol ("Bellamy") and Harmony Korine (something called "Trash Humpers"). The UK TV crime trilogy "Red Riding," which recently screened at the Telluride Film Festival, is also among the 12 scheduled films.

This year's fest will also include the "See a Film on Us" initiative, which offers complimentary tickets to all films, including a limited number of seats to each Gala Presentation. Nice deal, that.
