Fashion News: Is Jennifer Lawrence too fat for 'Hunger Games'?

The Hunger Games
Is Jennifer Lawrence too fat to play Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games?" This is a thought that never would have crossed my mind-- she looks pretty, um, normal in the sleek, belted golden gown she's wearing in this photo with her cast-mates. But The Cut and Slate note that some of the film's reviewers -- including Manohla Dargis at the New York Times -- seem disappointed that she doesn't look emaciated. Not hungry enough, so to speak. [The Cut] [Slate]

Retailers reportedly have noted a high rate of returns of clothing ordered by Mexican consumers. The problem is the clothes just don't fit. So the country's apparel industry undertook a survey to see what the proportions are of the average man and woman in Mexico. The results will be used to create a new "Mexican molde" designed to ensure clothes that fit and are flattering. [WWD] [The Cut]

Etta Froio, senior contributing editor at WWD, is retiring Friday after 40 years with the publication. [WWD] is slated to hit newsstands Monday, spotlighting looks from designers' fall-winter 2012 ready-to-wear collections, only a few weeks after the end of Paris Fashion Week. The theme is "Fashion Behind Closed Doors," and among other things it features behind-the-scenes looks at designers Alber Elbaz, Joseph Altuzarra, Giorgio Armani and Hollywood's Georgina Chapman as she helps get Stacy Kiebler ready for the Oscars -- and then attends herself. Altuzarra, by the way, confirms he has a collaboration with J Crew that should come out in a few weeks. [Fashionista]

Fashion blogger Lindsay Scruggs, who lost an eye and a hand when she walked into a plane propeller in December, is suing the airplane's insurer rather than settle for the $200,000 they've offered. [Styleite]

Dorino Della Valle, founder of Tod's, died Tuesday in Casette d’Ete, Italy. He was 87. [WWD] (Subscription required.)
