Hollywood stars and moguls gathered at the Chateau Marmont on Tuesday night for a black-tie dinner celebrating the 40th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s honorary Academy Award. Talk at the dinner naturally turned to this year's silent-movie Oscar contender, "The Artist" -- but more importantly, to Oscar gowns."The Artist's" Missi Pyle had just come from a fitting. But "The Help's" Jessica Chastain, up against her costar in "The Help" Octavia Spencer for best supporting actress, confessed she still hadn't decided on a dress, with only five days to go until Sunday's Academy Awards. (The apple green Elie Saab she wore to the Chaplin dinner was pretty eye-catching, though.) [Society News LA]

We'll tell you more about Pyle's choice and about what goes into creating an Oscar look in this Sunday's Image section.

Raf Simons is reportedly stepping down as creative director of Jil Sander on Monday, although he still plans to present his final collection for the label on Saturday as planned. No reason is cited, but tea leaf readers speculate that he may be the long-awaited replacement for John Galliano at Dior. [Cut] [WWD]

Estee Lauder is doing a makeup collaboration with "Mad Men," scheduled to launch next month when the hit TV show returns. Global brand president Jane Hertzmark Hudis says Estee Lauder can do a collection in “an authentic way. We were there in the '60s — it’s not creating something inspired by the '60s; we have stuff from the '60s!” The collection is to be sold exclusively at Bloomingdale's. [Beauty Counter] [Los Angeles Time]

This is not surprising: Joan Rivers has multiple closets in her New York penthouse, plus lots of creative storage, to hold all those clothes, shoes, purses, jewels, scarves and whatnot. [Time Out NY]

Hatmaker Eugenia Kim, known for her innovative designs and luxe materials, has teamed with Stetson on a collection of somewhat more rustic hats for fall 2012. The idea is the Eugenia Kim woman of the West. [WWD]
