Fashion News: Givenchy, Bulgari part of Madonna's halftime show

February 6, 2012 |  8:46 am

The fashion world had reason to smile during Madonna's Super Bowl halftime show. The opening number was "Vogue," and dozens of giant replicas of Vogue magazine lighted up. The star dressed in Givenchy Couture and Bulgari jewels; M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj wore Erickson Beamon headpieces; I don't know who Cee Lo Green wore, but it was all black sequins. The performance was marred, though, by M.I.A., who inexplicably lifted her middle finger in a gesture for which NBC later apologized. [Fox]

If anyone who saw David Beckham's Super Bowl ad for his new H&M underwear and still wonders whether the soccer star can really sell underclothing, consider this: After he said his wife, Victoria, prefers him in long johns, sales of the garment shot up in the U.K. (Of course, it's also been freezing cold there.)  [Daily Mail]

Jason Wu for Target launched Sunday. Apparently there was no website crash, a la what happened with the Missoni collection in September. Still, within a few hours only a few items remained online for sale. [Racked]

And the majority of customers commenting on Target's Facebook page didn't sound happy with the usual m.o.: limited merchandise being snapped up in stores by unscrupulous buyers for resale on e Bay. [Target on Facebook]

Vogue Editor Anna Wintour received her Ally for Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign in New York at a gala on Saturday. The award was for her support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. [The Cut]

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe launched a clothing line last year and now is expanding into costume jewelry. [WWD] (Subscription required.)
