No, we’re not New York. But the fashion industry is huge in Southern California, and every year, Los Angeles colleges send out thousands of newly minted graduates who hope to be the next Monique Lhuillier or Rick Owens (two of the big names who attended local fashion schools).

From Otis College of Art and Design to the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising to Los AngelesTrade-Technical College, local fashion schools cater to students of varying aspirations and income levels. Some of them will end up as pattern makers; others will find themselves in textile design; still others will find work at a retail level. And a handful will become household names.
