Teen style guides tend to be heavy on advice that’s so well-tread that it’s not even new to middle-schoolers.

But even fashionable grown-ups are bound to pick up a few helpful hints in the ‘Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Style: How to Find Your Pefect Look,’ a soft-cover coffee table book from the mag’s editors.

The 187-page book pairs style advice for different body types (including ‘curvy all over’) with celebrity photos and model shots illustrating different style personas — from boho and indie to glam and preppy.

In each chapter the editors annoint a celebrity starlet as that look’s patron saint, then break down the various components of the look — i.e., a pencil skirt and heeled boots for glam; a plaid shirt and vintage dress for the indie girl.

Starlets featured for the different looks include Emma Watson (indie), Vanessa Hudgens (boho), Selena Gomez (classic) and Ashley Tisdale (a questionable choice for edgy).

The tome also includes a solid guide to finding perfect-fitting jeans, including tips for girls with curvy tummies (find a jean with a rise that’s high on the sides and dips down in front slightly); and flat butts (‘fading under your butt will make your tush look higher and perkier.’)

There are similarly helpful guides for finding a flattering swimsuit and bra — and there’s a fun accessories guide, showcasing must-have shoes, bags, sunglasses and belts.

And while we’re not crazy about teens following style guides of any sort (what’s more delicious than a kookily dressed teenager, after all?), we sort of wish we’d had a guide even half as helpful when we were style neophytes.
