When it comes to beauty products, there’s the eco-friendly moniker — which refers to products that don’t impinge on the environment and do boast post-consumer packaging materials. Then there are biodegradable products, which take eco-friendliness a step further by using ingredients that actually break down (or degrade) in wastewater treatment systems.

But you don’t have to be hip to the science behind Kiss My Face’s new biodegradable Peace Soaps to feel good about using them.

The versatile castile liquid soaps are formulated with 100% natural ingredients including olive, coconut and jojoba oils — and can be used to clean a baby or a bathtub (or anything in between.) We’ve employed ours as a hand soap and in a watery solution to wipe down dirty kitchen cabinets.

But unlike the hippie-scented castile soaps stocked at local nature marts, Kiss My Face’s versions are fragranced for real life, not the commune — scented in Grassy Mint, Lemongrass Clary Sage, Lavender Mandarin and Pomegranate Acai.

Obviously, the soaps are formulated sans parabens and phthalates (both notorious eco-enemies.) And if you need one more reason to pull the trigger — 10% of sales from the aptly named Peace Soaps will be donated to the Seeds of Peace Organization, which is dedicated to empowering young leaders from regions of conflict.

Priced at $9.99 for a 17-ounce bottle and $14.99 for a 34-ounce bottle, the sweet-smelling soaps are available at Whole Foods stores and on KissMyFace.com.
