Our reviewers finally got to see Terrence Malick’s long-awaited ‘The Tree of Life’ at France’s Cannes Film Festival on Monday. Costume designer Jacqueline West describes her method of dressing the actors: “I try to go right through the onion skins of their characters, because people have many layers to their personalities,” she says. West had Robert Pattinson, whom she dressed along with Reese Witherspoon for “Water for Elephants,” wear 1930s-style knickers throughout the movie: “I made him put them on when he got up in the morning and wear them all the time -- even when he wasn’t on camera,” she says. “But it really got him into the ‘30s.” [WWD]

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert wed over the weekend, in a suitably downhome wedding and reception that featured venison. The rings by Beverly Hills jeweler Johnathon Arndt were another matter. According to a release, Arndt created a 5-carat white-diamond “Eternity” ring for Lambert, designed to complement her stunning engagement ring. Shelton’s wedding band was, well, unique: It was based on one of his tattoos. [People]

CNN host Anderson Cooper has been tapped to host the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards in June. It is expected to feature a mix of celebrities and fashionistas, including Lady Gaga, who will accept the Fashion Icon Award, and Marc Jacobs, this year’s recipient of the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.
