It’s raining brides and babies! In celebration of all those April showers that seem to be taking our calendars by storm, we’ve rounded up some gift ideas to give now, or stock up on for events all spring long.

Disclaimer: I had a colorful kitty exactly like this (albeit in red velveteen) as a child, so maybe I’m a teeny bit biased. But what mommy-to-be or kid of any age wouldn’t fall in love with these whimsical, handcrafted felines? Their forlorn look is as irresistible as a shelter cat—practically screaming, “Adopt me and love me!”

Designer Heidi Iverson of H-Luv Fabrications in Penngrove, Calif., hand makes each one-of-a-kind kitty (as well as a menagerie of other animals) using repurposed fabrics. They are sold at Goods in Santa Monica. And we suggest tucking a copy of ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ by T.S. Eliot into the gift box.

Another artisanal gift: Goods’ hand-loomed 100% organic cotton blanket, featuring one of four cute critters and crafted in Cochabamba, Bolivia. And this gift gives back. The sister-in-law of Goods co-owner Katherine Inglis runs a knitting collective in Bolivia that employs more than 300 women to make these exclusive pieces for the store. (Cat toys, $46 each, and 30-inch-by-40-inch blankets, $52 each, at Goods. Call to order: [310] 392-3922).
