Last week we got an e-mail informing us about Gucci’s swanky new iPad carrying case, apparently designed by Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini herself, but never got a chance to pass on the information.

We haven’t had a chance to get our hands on one (or on an iPad either for that matter), but the press materials describe the cases as having details like a Velcro strap closure (to cut down on any pressure that might inadvertently be applied to the touch screen), and it’s lined with suede (to help keep the screen pristine and scratch-free).

A black rubberized leather version with the familiar debossed GG ‘Guccissima’ pattern, a neoprene version, and one in the GG plus patterned canvas ($290, $250 and $230, respectively) are available for pre-order now through Gucci’s website, with a shipping date between July 1 and Aug. 1. As of June 15, they’ll also be available at Gucci flagship stores in Rome, Milan, Paris, London and New York.

More styles are set to be released in October, including the familiar GG imprimé fabric in mauve and military green, with additional releases expected a bit later (think silver leather for the winter holidays and red patent leather for Valentine’s Day).

And just in case you have a hard time keeping track of it all, yes, indeed, there is a Gucci app for that -- which doesn’t cost anything at all.
