Miley Cyrus’ transformation from Disney pop tart to more grownup-looking rocker chick has mostly to do with her distressed, edgy ensembles and wild, sexy hair.

The singer’s long, wavy and voluminous locks are put into place by her hair stylist Scott Cuhna, who whips texture and wave into Cyrus’ tresses. The look is effortless and surprisingly, it’s really easy to do at home.

‘The look is messy, like she doesn’t care, but still gorgeous.’ says Cuhna, who just came back from being on tour with Cyrus. ‘It looks like that perfect wave that she did herself, but obviously she didn’t.’

Cuhna runs Moroccanoil Treatment through damp hair, gives it a rough blow dry all while scrunching her hair to kick up Cyrus’ natural waves. ‘We are both obsessed with Leonor Greyl Eclat Naturel,’ Cuhna says. ‘It gives hair that piece-y texture without weighing it down.’

For anyone trying to get the look, Cuhna suggests following these steps and bumping up waves with a large barrel curling iron. ‘Select random pieces from around your head and wrap sections of hair around the barrel of the curling iron, but don’t close down the clamp, so you don’t have that perfectly curled kind of curl.’
