Retailers in West Hollywood’s bustling shopping corridor -- radiating out from the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Robertson Boulevard -- are hoping to lure out recession-fatigued shoppers with a neighborhood holiday shopping event, Holiday Walk on the Avenues, Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Organized by members of the Avenues of Art & Design neighborhood, which officially organized in 1996, the second annual event features extended business hours (most stores will stay open until 9 p.m.), special discounts and -- everywhere you turn -- free punch, champagne and edibles.

The streets will be festooned with decorations and lights, and you’ll likely run into roaming carolers and Santa Clauses en route. There will also be gift-wrapping stations here and there -- with the wrapping station at coffee shop Kaffe Wien benefiting the kids at West Hollywood Elementary School.

The laundry list of participating stores include fashion outposts Co Co de Mer, Kreiss, Beckley, Alpha Gear for Gents, Alberta Ferretti, Soolip, John Varvatos, Kitson and Kitson Men, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Le Bra Lingerie and Steven Alan. (Suspiciously missing from that list are Stella McCartney and Balenciaga). Home design and fine art stalwarts include Hamilton-Selway Fine Art, Robert Kuo, 655 Home, and DIVA/B&B Italia.
