Designer and past ‘Project Runway’ winner Christian Siriano flew into town to present his third collection for maternity brand Moody Mamas -- aptly called Fierce Mamas -- in L.A. on Wednesday.

The spiky-haired designer, who is also on his third season of his high-end namesake line, linked up with Moody Mamas co-designer Marta Abrams -- and his colorful Spring 2010 collection for the label -- in an office at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

Featuring floor- and knee-length jersey dresses, lollipop-hued cotton tops with sheer princess sleeves and a bevy of nighttime frocks in ditsy and mosaic-inspired prints, the collection ‘was about color,’ Siriano said. ‘It’s bright and cheery. It was [also] about occasion dresses – I wanted them to be light and airy.’

As for the high-fashion fanatic’s unlikely (and ongoing) turn in maternity wear, he noted, ‘It’s a challenge and I like that. There are so many projects and brands and collaborations you can do -- I thought this was something different.’

Siriano met Abrams and Moody Mamas co-designer Elise Rosemarin when the trio studied design at the American InterContinental University in London. ‘We were definitely friends then, and stayed friends,’ he noted. The Siriano-designed Fierce Mamas collection is priced from around $55 for a luxe t-shirt to just over $200 for a silk party dress.

Moody Mamas, which debuted a diffusion line in Target in October, specializes in clothes that aren’t unlike the garb fashion-forward gals wear when not knocked up. That means better fabrics and less voluminous cuts. ‘When you’re pregnant, you’re still living your same life,’ Siriano said. ‘If you loved clothes before, why not love them now? You’re not pregnant for that long.’
