Zara, the affordable Spanish fast-fashion chain, seems to have sussed out that L.A. shoppers have been hankering for even more accessible style options. So it’s expanding its Southern California presence with two new stores this month: one, just opened, at the Farmers Market on 3rd Street in Los Angeles, and one on Hollywood Boulevard, which opens Thursday.

Zara, based in La Coruña, Spain, is known for its speedy response to fashion trends. The chain, with more than 4,400 stores in 73 countries and 46 in the U.S., ships new styles weekly rather than changing merchandise according to traditional fashion seasons.

Zara’s prices, which start at $9.90 for a T-shirt, are a definite magnet, but what makes the chain desirable to fashion mavens such as Gwyneth Paltrow are styles like its on-trend little black dress. Zara’s newest LBD ($159.90) is an homage to 1980s power dressing, with pronounced shoulders that also appear on a blazer ($79.90) and a leather jacket ($279). The jackets can be paired with either leggings ($39.90) or a baggy trouser pegged at the calf ($79). Men can pick up a basic black suit ($99 blazer, $59 pants) and chambray denim shirt ($59.90), while kids can choose from back-to-school khakis ($24.90) and knits ($19.90 to $27.90).

The Hollywood Boulevard location, across from the Kodak Theatre, is hosting a special grand opening shopping event, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, open to shoppers who sign up on the mailing lists at other Zara locations -- Century City, Santa Monica, South Coast Plaza, Fashion Square Sherman Oaks and Pasadena. Sparkling Spanish cava will, of course, be poured.

6904 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles. (323) 469-1002. 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. www.zara.com
