Details are trickling in about Fashion’s Night Out in L.A. on Sept. 10. The global initiative--an effort to get people out shopping again--is being spearheaded by Vogue magazine Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, who will appear on ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ this evening to discuss it.

In L.A., Ron Herman and the whole Fred Segal Melrose team will open the doors from 7 to 11 p.m. for special appearances by designers, stylists, photographers and artists. Chan Luu will showcase her newest wrap bracelets, Rory Beca will debut her fall ‘Willy Wonka’-themed collection, Paige Geller will demonstrate how to ‘destroy’ your own jeans (love that), and Whitley Kros designers Sophia Coloma and Marissa Ribisi will teach shoppers how to perfect the oversized T-shirt look and introduce a limited-edition style only available that night. Cobrasnake will be snapping photos and selling T-shirts, while Nike designers are on hand to customize shoes and much more.

At Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, the vibe will be more NYC (Nathan’s hot dogs and Factors New York cheesecake will be served). From 6 to 9 p.m., there will be a jazz band, runway shows, special gifts with purchase, and a trend presentation at 7 p.m. with Vogue West Coast editor Lisa Love.

‘It’s not about going out and spending $20,000 on a bag in a poor economy,’ Love said by phone this morning. ‘It’s about supporting the industry even just by buying some perfume or a T-shirt. Because if people aren’t supporting the industry, we’re losing jobs.’

More info to come when I get it, including details about the Toms/Trovata party.
