SAG red carpet: More glamour than Globes

The SAG Awards may be about the ‘work,’ but the dresses are inarguably more interesting than the cavalcade of low key gowns we saw at the Golden Globes. Maybe it’s the rainbow of bold, look-at-me colors -- from pastel coral to emerald to royal blue -- or the frothy, seemingly edible tiers and long trains. Clearly, the actresses decided to go big tonight and keep Hollywood’s economy afloat with boatloads of glamour.

Was the red, white and blue trend fueled by Obama fever? Kate Winslet, who opted for a subdued YSL column dress at the Globes, went with a dazzling royal blue Narciso Rodriguez bias cut gown with a 30 carat diamond bracelet by Chopard. I love how the silhouette accentuates her sexy figure. Anne Hathaway went with a gorgeous white Azzaro gown with crystal embellishments, and Diane Lane‘s old-Hollywood-style red David Meister dress is both elegant and sensuous; the Chanel diamond camellia cuff is perfect too.

Some highlights:

Kyra Sedgewick‘s vintage no-nonsense Chanel dress in black and white from RARE Vintage NYC was the perfect palette for a stunning necklace, and she didn’t disappoint in a Fred Leighton 19th century amethyst and diamond necklace.

Freida Pinto of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ found her stride at this show in a tender blue Marchesa gown with intricate pleating and a sophisticated updo that she secured with a 53-carat diamond bracelet from Martin Katz. You can see that she’s becoming more comfortable with posing as an actress rather than a model. The look is very Grace Kelly.

Christina Applegate‘s one-shoulder, hand-draped Emanuel Ungaro in dazzling emerald was a bold choice, as green is a tough hue to pull off. But Applegate has eyes that very same shade, and I like that she paired the green with a bold red lip.

Taraji P. Henson wore Herve Leroux in winter white and Cartier jewels. I appreciate how she opted for simple hair and let the drama of this dress speak for itself instead of overdoing the look. She looks fresh and comfortable.

Who would get your vote for best red-carpet look?
