Repeat after The Rage: ‘I can wear yellow, dammit. I will wear yellow.’ This sunny hue happens to be the ‘it’ shade for spring -- seen on nearly every runway including 3.1 Phillip Lim and Behnaz Sarafpour. But for some reason, many recoil from the shade because they don’t believe that it works with their complexion. Wrong. Yellow works for everyone, as long as you choose the right shade.

If you’re as fair as a marshmallow, avoid the rich, gutsy yellow seen on Rihanna. (Women with darker skin and hair can wear any shade of yellow that they please.) Redheads should opt for honey tones and pale blondes look great in Chardonnay tones.

This dress from J.Crew ($140) compliments everyone, from redheads to the raven-haired. I love that it’s a flattering wrap dress with a ruffled collar and swiss dot pattern. You can pair it with a ballet flat or sandal. It also comes in black, white and a bright berry shade. Go for the yellow.

If you want to shop big on the trend, check out this empire line mini dress from Stella McCartney (right) at Net-a-porter.com that reminds me of Catherine Deneuve. In a pale lemon cotton and silk blend, this chic shift ($1,395) features buttoned cuffs and a tapered hemline. Wear killer pumps or platforms with this one and a few wooden bangles.
