Handpicked photography and video from the readers of the L.A. Times

Can you deal?

Thepug I have one question for you, Allen. If that is your real name.
What in the world was going through your mind when this picture was taken?
Wait. I have another one.
Do those sandals hurt?
They're rad.

It's lotus time...so where are the lotuses?

lotus flowers in echo park

Our pal Veronique de Turenne over at the L.A. Now blog is wondering the very same thing!

So...will we have any of these glorious blooms in time for the Lotus Festival?  Fingers crossed, but if not you can always check out our Echo Park/Silver Lake album to get your lotus fix!

Beware all ye actors who enter here

no fan of the screen actors' guild

Submitter monsieur pierre sends this perplexing photo, which seems to provide more questions than answers (but that's half the fun!).

Ys_sagcloseup_2

For starters:

What did SAG do so wrong?

Is AFTRA somehow to blame?  Or that nefarious cult of Thespians, the Actors' Equity Association?

Is this suitcase making every wannabe actor's nightmare trip: the return voyage to the cornfields of Iowa from whence he or she came?

...but mostly I just want to know: how does poor Cyd Charisse figure into all this?!  She seems so classy and dignified.

I object to any form of Cyd Charisse character assassination!  Just let that poor lady dance!

Who is our favorite Angels fan?

world's most mysterious baseball fan

We heart this man (so committed in his Angels fandom that we've never seen a photo of him without an Angels hat or cap of some kind) so much that we made him his own album.

We have his photos, but precious little else.  And (I think I speak for Bettie here as well as myself) it eats away at us.  It keeps us up nights.  We wonder so many things:  who is he?  is he some kind of celebrity?  and who sees to all his haberdashery needs?

Who are you, Lurene?

Wha-wha-whaaaat is going on here? This video was submitted by "Lurene" and depicts a woman, seemingly from another (1990's-ish?) time period flirting with her new webcam.

Why is this video so unnerving? How did it get to Your Scene? Who are you, Lurene? I have so many questions.

Great mysteries, Part I: Cats and boxes

Ys_kittybox1

Cat person or no, you've surely noticed this phenomenon...right?

Cats and boxes.  It's a match made in heaven, and I guess I kinda understand why...I mean, it's a cat-sized, enclosed space that feels safe, I guess?

Ys_kittybox4

But it just seems like it's more than that!  It's just so...pathological.

(Come on, you know you want to see more photos.)
