Something old, something new

Lifeisbeautifulfinal

This wall art above depicts Billie Holiday in mid-song, belting out some tune we can’t hear. The words next to her though send a positive message to brighten any Angeleno's day.

The photo below gives us a Los Angeles of the future. A city where mechanical monsters fight to the death over limited resources and territorial control of a meteor-blasted land.

Two great images painted on the ever-growing L.A. landscape.

Wall of sunshine

Yellowwall1

Pablo Picasso's Blue Period was from 1901 to 1904--a time in which he used low lighting and mostly blue paint to create his early masterworks.

If I had to categorize this photo, or if it was a painting, it certainly would be part of L.A.'s Yellow Period. Rarely have I seen such a bright wall in the middle of the city, and the people are almost set as props up against the large, canary canvas.

Literally, this picture is day brightener.

Heavy metal

Disneyhallfinal

I enjoy mystery photographs. We all have a different perspective on how things look and what things are. Is this some mega-palace set in outerspace, meant for warring robots to take refuge inside? Or a cool, sleek spaceship with sharp edges for batting away flying meteors? A modern take on the Egyptian pyramids?

The answer is none of the above.

This is a shot taken right here in Downtown L.A. of our own beloved Walt Disney Concert Hall. A Frank Gehry stainless steel marvel.

Stampede!

Elephants

Ken submitted this photo today, titled "Tanzania Elephant Stampede" and we love it. You can feel the ground rumble and smell the dust, it seems. Everything in shades of burnt reds and sandy browns. It's in the Africa album.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Lightfinal

There are many images, icons, and scientific experiments associated with light. We think of light as the sun, a light bulb, a certain glow. A halo, a star, a candle's flame.

Here, in this shot, we quite literally get the ever-famous: light at the end of the tunnel.

I think this photograph is sign of our times. For one, more people than ever before in Los Angeles are considering public transportation as their way to work and around our fair city. Secondly, and more philosophically, many people need a good old silver lining to look forward to right now. Many people need some light at the end of a tunnel. So, thanks, Rick, for giving us just that.

Under my umbrella

Under_my_umbrellafinal

This summer, in certain parts of our fair city, it can get very hot. It already has been in areas like Pasadena and the beach cities. So, you know the routine--turn up the AC, eat ice cream, slather on the sunscreen.

What's so great about our warm weather though is that you can take in the California sun in unusual places. Here we see four friends all sunning (and taking some shade) at The Getty Museum.

Sort of reminds me of the show Friends, actually. A group of pals, hanging together, sharing the same shelter.

Double Dutch!

Jumping rope can make your heart beat 180 times per minute.

It’s a creative pastime, where plastic rope slapping sidewalks can create just the right tempo for you to jump and jump and jump, until you need to run out of the ropes, and it is your turn to do the turning.

This is the happiest photo I have seen in a while. Thanks, Luda.

Your morning adorable

Cosmo <3s Snow?

Poor Cosmo!

He looks kinda miserable in his snow-encrusted fur, no?  Even though his cousins are out there running the Iditarod, he looks like he'd be a lot more comfortable on a nice sunny beach.  Can't say I blame him!

Let it all out

Madnessfinal

Have you ever been so overwhelmed with emotion that you just had to express it? Immediately? Openly? Publicly?

Well, this little boy shows us all the way to true peace. He is getting out whatever he's got inside.

This is quite a roar we are looking at here. A deep primal scream.

His mom writes in her caption: "My boy playing HERO in the Jewish Memorial Square, Pan Pacific Park, L.A."

I love the look of sheer emotion.
