Remembering last year's May Day march

You gave us some amazing, compelling images from 2007's May Day protest, 'Sceners.

This is just a small sample:

Your morning adorable

Ys_morningadorable

Folks, this adorable creature is a Dik-dik.  Apparently they live in Africa and are tiny!  As in, according to the afore-linked Wikipedia, at birth they weigh only one and a half pounds!

I pretty much want one immediately, except for the fact that exotic pets are bad bad bad!  And this little friend looks much happier outside than she would be in an apartment.

At any rate, she's adorable, and You're Welcome!!!

Great mysteries, Part I: Cats and boxes

Ys_kittybox1

Cat person or no, you've surely noticed this phenomenon...right?

Cats and boxes.  It's a match made in heaven, and I guess I kinda understand why...I mean, it's a cat-sized, enclosed space that feels safe, I guess?

But it just seems like it's more than that!  It's just so...pathological.

(Come on, you know you want to see more photos.)

Santa Monica Ferris Wheel, we hardly knew ye

Ys_wheel2_2

We could hardly believe it when we read it, but our own L.A. Now blog would never lie about something so serious as the sale (on EBay!!!) of the Santa Monica Ferris Wheel

That's right, this iconic L.A. Landmark was sold to the highest bidder and will soon leave sunny Santa Monica for the...um...greener pastures (?) of Oklahoma City.

But before we bid (no pun intended) a fond farewell, let's revisit some great photos, shall we?  We shall.

Welcome, friends!

I know I'm biased, but I'm pretty convinced (and I think my co-blogger-in-crime, Bettie Rinehart, will agree with me here) that Your Scene is the best best best thing about Latimes.com.

Don't know Your Scene?  Well, take a look around and I think you'll find yourself hopping on the train right quick.  See, Your Scene is a magical little place where our readers (that's you!) share photos, comment on each others' photos-- heck, even vote for the very best photos.  In other words, you're driving this boat!

Your Scene has helped us at Latimes.com tell some amazing stories, like last year's California wildfires, the May Day demonstrations, the big-time WGA Writers Strike-- even the Iraq war!

But fear not, Your Scene newbies.  It's not all serious stuff!  Need proof?:

(You want whimsy?  We'll give you whimsy.)

In short: We love Your Scene, and we hope you will too!  To our longtime 'Sceners, thanks for all the great photos.  To our new friends, welcome-- make yourselves at home!  Or better yet, send us your photos!

About the Bloggers
Lindsay Barnett was born to wolves in the back country of Uzbekistan in the early '80s. She was spotted, trapped, and tranquilized by missionaries who named her and raised her as their own. She now moderates and curates the galleries of the Los Angeles Times' Your Scene.

Bettie Rinehart, Weekend Editor at latimes.com, has been a fan of Your Scene from its humble beginnings in August, 2006. She's delighted to contribute to the Your Scene blog -- by plucking from the endlessly compelling, beautiful and sometimes baffling submissions of our readers. For your interest and edification, of course.

Lori Kozlowski is a huge fan of hearing from the people of Los Angeles. Your Scene is a sneak peek into your world, sort of like postcards that you send us. She is a writer, who has covered the quirky and the off-beat in L.A. and other cities. She is currently a producer for latimes.com.
