Israeli airstrike kills suspected Palestinian militant in Gaza Strip

GAZA CITY — A suspected Palestinian militant was killed and another seriously injured Sunday in an Israeli airstrike against a motorcycle they were riding in the Tel Sultan neighborhood of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli military officials said they targeted Ahmed Said Ismail, 22, because he was suspected of taking part in an attack last month along the Israel-Egypt border that left one Israeli civilian dead. Witnesses said Ismail was wounded in the strike and Hijazi Okal, 22, was killed.

Palestinian militants in Gaza responded by firing several dozen mortar rounds toward the Israeli border. There were no reports of injuries or damage from the projectiles.
