Ex-boyfriend jewelry -- incredible bargains!

04:49 PM PT, Apr 9 2008

Butterfly_2 "Hey Mom and Dad, remember that time I got married really young? Sorry about that. I can't pay you back for the wedding, but I'll split whatever I get for these with you. Deal?"

That's from an honest to goodness auction listing for a used wedding ring set, white gold with ½ carat diamond ($300 obo) -- all available along with drawers and drawers full of jewelry that no longer "fits."

At Exboyfriendjewelry.com ("You don't want it. He can't have it back"), the most popular category is rings (25), followed by necklaces (23) and earrings (20). There are only two items listed so far in my favorite section, "Gifts That Should Have Been Jewelry."

Megahn and Marie Perry are the creators of the site, and they explain its founding myth thus:

A couple of months ago I was trying to figure out what to do with some ex jewelry myself. I had some lovely necklaces and a wedding set (oops, better luck next time) that were not seeing themselves to the door if you know what I mean. After a trip to a local pawn shop (ew), and a visit to the neighborhood consignment store (you get how much?), I went to dinner at my parent's house and said to my step-mom, Marie, "I want a safe, reliable place to sell my ex-boyfriend jewelry..."

And the rest is history.

Whitering_2 If you're the kind of guy that may be looking to become an ex-boyfriend or ex-husband (and therefore don't feel like springing for a 'new' ring), you can probably find yourself quite a deal here.

The highest priced item I found was a $5,000 engagement ring (:1 princess cut diamond that weighs 1.23 carats and 28 round brilliant cut diamonds that have a combined weight of .35 carats.") -- a steal if the $11,000 appraisal the seller notes is legit.

A poll on the site asking users to finish the sentence "My ex-boyfriend is..." shows that hawking old lovers' jewelry is not necessarily a vindictive affair.

Sure, the most popular answer is "...a complete waste of oxygen." But, coming in a close second is "a great guy, it just didn't work out."

Who says nice guys finish last?

A very unusual blog, i never heard about ex-boyfriend's jewelry or anything of this sort even existed. But ideas and jewelry as distinct as your's would be well accepted by a lot of female jewelry lovers.

Hi,

Just saw the Today Show and I ran (almost) to my computer to check out this site! Very cool idea and I have a nice diamond to say goodbye to...look forward to connecting with others!

A more trustworthy and credible site...www.ex-cessories.com...also has a much cuter blog...just an FYI
