Sarah Palin claims Paul Revere warned the British
Sarah Palin, if you haven't heard, is taking some of her family around the country, visiting historical U.S. landmarks, and talking to the media along the way.
Thursday her "One Nation" traveling road show stopped in Boston, where the former Alaska governor, her parents, her husband, and little Piper visited Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, and Bunker Hill. Palin posted photos of that leg of her trip on the SarahPAC blog.
One moment that you won't find posted on the blog is Palin's response to reporters when they asked her who Paul Revere was. Instead of saying, "Come on, everyone knows who Paul Revere, the silversmith and patriot is," she stammered while saying this:
"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."
Needless to say, the lamestream media are having a field day with that gaffe.
Politico: Palin makes Bachmann look like Longfellow
Forbes: This certainly gives us an entirely new point of view to consider when examining our nation’s founding.
Mediaite: Palin’s version wasn’t exactly the official History Channel rendition of the tale...
ABC: Perhaps this week's lesson in the annals of American history was necessary for Sarah Palin.
Fox News has the video up leading their site, but no text or commentary. Perhaps they're speechless.
All of this reminds me of a fortune cookie I once received that said, "We teach what we most need to learn." In which case, ride on, "One Nation," ride on.

I must admit I laughed out loud at yet another rendition of the "57 States" golden oldie from an Obama-hater, followed by "Is this the best you got?" I see that irony and self-parody still go undetected on the right!
Oh, and "Liberty" - Reagan tripled the national debt, bush jr doubled it. Did you complain then? I didn't think so.

Well every time there is yet another blunder from the conservative field the right-wing nuts trot out the "57 States" gaffe from Obama. Is that the best you got?? I guess so, which is pretty good for a man who's made hundreds of public appearances over the past few years. Can you imagine Palin's list of bloopers if she didn't avoid the media most of the time???

Anything to smear a Republican
Just another reason for most of our MEDIA to drop dead of fatal aneurysms.

Those who try to claim Palin is correct in her latest gaffe by quoting Paul Revere's writings when he was arrested by the British army are stretching to defend someone who is clueless. I lived in Boston and walked the freedom trail many times. I have been to the spot where Paul Revere and two other horsemen were caught by the British army. Its many miles from Boston and the Old North Church where the lanterns in the steeple to warn the Americans. In your quote even the British soldiers called them Americans. That was the purpose of the ride. Not to warn the British army as its obvious Sarah got wrong. Yes Paul spilled the beans (no pun intended) at the end of his ride after warning the citizenry along the way that the Redcoats were coming. I would have too with a gun to my head.
Its obvious to me that Sarah caves in front of the media which is proof she is not presidential material.

Ignorance should never be rewarded. Listening to Sarah Palin's half-assed and thoughtless attempt to depict history is disappointing to say the least. Supporting that kind of stupity is just plain inexcusable. Welcome to America, where style matters more than substance and stupidity is celebrated.

The lamestream media has for a long time waged a campaign to harm Palin with distortions and lies because they fear (as liberals/leftists) that she could win the presidency. If you care to see the historical facts behind Palin's comments, see the following "Governor Palin Gives the Media a History Lesson on Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride" http://conservatives4palin.com/2011/06/governor-palin-gives-the-media-a-history-lesson-on-paul-reveres-midnight-ride.html

The idiots that think that Palin is one are beyond hope. If she is an idiot why is the lamestream media (which the idiots blindly believe) obsessed with her an pay so much attention to everything she says and does?

You are nothing other then a media whore that's been misplaced from the circus, now grab your 2nd place beauty queen act, along with your big shoes and get your raggedy butt back in the clown car and EXIT stage left.

She was asked this question because she had just visited Paul Revere's home and other MA historical landmarks-not to embarrass her. She embarrasses herself. She is afraid of pointed questions like these. Hard ones like "What newspapers do you read?". It is quite telling that the same group of intellectuals that rush to her defense with Paul Revere's letter [posted twice here by Palin supporters] are the same folks who deride Barack Obama for stammering and his '57 states' gaffe. They also assume that Palin has actually read that letter. Chances of this are slim to none.
But you jokers keep on; We all know that looks and rhetoric will lead this country to victory-not facts and substance. Those pesky facts...
Posted by: drew | June 04, 2011 at 05:29 AM
She does have the correct story although it was spoken in her unfortunate "Palin-esque jumble". She does not have the gift of being able to bullsh*t coherently like most professional politicians.
She isn't presentational material and probably never will be, but she does seem to know that Paul Revere was captured and gave misinformation to the interrogators.
I wonder if he still would have still exaggerated about the colonists capabilities if he had been water-boarded. Hmmm....

What an idiot.
More important it stated in this article that FOX network didn't make a comment, here is why: FOX loves Palin. Watch Sean Hannity kiss her A$$ not only when she is on her show but every night.
It is said that she can be President someday based on "party lines"

I love reading the posts from the neo-cons... Stop blaming everyone else for your idiots comments. Palin is on a media tour visiting national historical sites! She should expect questions about their significance. Repurposing history to meet your own political needs is always risky, she is clearly not bright enough to think things through before responding.
Posted by: Blame game | June 04, 2011 at 05:34 AM
Those damn media--they gave her another Gotcha question! Probably Katie Couric put them up to it...... Sarah knew the answer but she just answered that way because she was angry because they were treating her like a dummie. She handled it just like she answered the question about what newspapers she read. Her fans don't care if she doesn't know anything--what counts is how the plastic surgeons and make up make Barbie Doll look. The important thing is that she will repeat what FOX News wants her to say.

I read thru most of the comments about this article and noticed that there are a lot of people who hate for the sake of hating.
Sarah Palin is no idiot, not even close. An idiot is defined as any person who voted for Obama.
You "moderates" or "liberals" or "progressives" are scared to death of this woman. Scared she will run because if she does Obama goes down.
Liberalism is a disease. Get help.

All Americans should know who he is and what he did.
It comes down to this: If you are going to run on a platform of pride in America's founding and heritage, you had better know what the actual history says. It's just more of the backwards, uneducated rhetoric spewing from the right.

Actually Paul Revere was captured by the British after he rode warning the countryside.
The real historical account.
The British officers began to interrogate Revere, whereupon Revere astonished his captors by telling them more than they even knew about their own mission. (HA!) He also told them that he had been warning the countryside of the British plan and that their lives were at risk if they remained in the vicinity of Lexington because there would soon be 500 men there ready to fight. Revere, of course, was bluffing.
The Regulars had Revere remount his horse and they headed toward Lexington Green, when suddenly, they heard a gunshot! Revere told the British officer that the shot was a signal "to alarm the country!". Now the British troops were getting very nervous (hehe).
A few minutes later, they were all startled to hear the heavy crash of an entire volley of musketry from the direction of Lexington's meeting house and then the Lexington town bell began clanging rapidly! Jonathan Loring, a Lexington resident captured earlier, turned to his captors and shouted "The bell's a' ringing! The town's alarmed, and you're all dead men!"
The British officers then talked urgently among themselves and decided to release their captives so as they would not slow their retreat.
Her quote, "He who warned, uh, the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed."
Fits pretty good with the historical record I musr say.

It seems astonishing -- almost wilfully obtuse -- that someone who invariably jumps on the slightest gaffe of our President would have NO IDEA why Sahara Plaininin's mangling of history would be cause for less than obsequious groveling by anyone in media or the blogosphere.
Still, ignorance DOES seem to be the leitmotif of the day, doesn't it?

What Sarah Palin said went right over the heads of the Media. She turned it into a parable and they did not get it.

Oh please you SNOBs and 1/2. We Good Americans do not care about lame stream media BULLIES reports on insignificant history. How about reporting on The TYRANT in The Whitehouse. We don't want a Harvard Monster this time around. We want a real down to earth person like SARAH PALIN who is not going to LAUGH at person that makes a mistake in regards to a history question. That is so far from what Hillary Clinton did when she said she landed in Bosnia under SNIPER FIRE. Or what about all the LIES OBAMA said in 2008 to get elected and now is REVERSING everything to the tune of a different not. This is so INSIGNIFICANT....JUST BULLYING..of immature adults that have jobs in reporting NEWs yet look for material for comedians.

The Palin, her, his parents, and the whole progeny are nothing but nit wits. Precisely why their brood never finished high school and it took Palin her self six years and five different third rate colleges to get a degree, i.e. if she really has one. This mata hari is just an opportunist, hypocrite Sunday Christian evangelical with her big mouth , warts in the head and down below. The DOJ and the IRS needs to start an immediate investigation about her colluded finances and all these fundraisers etc. All she and her entourage is doing is inciting the misled and the gullible , wrapping up in the flag and farting patriotism.

Maybe Joking Joe Biden will apply for the job as speech writer. We all no he does not make mistakes. Glad I don't have a camera man following me around 24/7. Hope I spelled Biden right?

Just wanted to add that I do believe she knows at least the basics of Paul Revere's story (but to try to defend her and say she was 'technically' correct shows how desperate her supporters are to make her seem at least adequate to be President). But what happens is she gets tripped up trying to insert her talking points in every response. As soon as she hears a question she starts thinking "how can I get 'guns', 'freedom' and 'lamestream' into my response"? And by the time her mouth stops moving it's all jumbled together. Can you imagine the carnage if she were to speak off-the-cuff on the international stage?
The conservatives have spent several years demonizing the media as liberal and biased and it looks like the work is paying off now. We are expected to accept that all these GOP clowns are actually POTUS material and any criticism from the media should be written off as biased, mean, unfair. Know what? I want my media to ask questions of candidates for President, politicians who lie, and pundits who misrepresent facts. I expect my national political figures to answer questions from the media, and if they don't know the answer at least be quick enough to get out of it.
And Obama flubs? Sure! Show me twenty or thirty or a hundred out of the TENS OF THOUSANDS of statement he's made over the past few years. You demonstrate just how well spoken he is, on and off the teleprompter. Now go and check out the dozens from Palin even as she hides from the media most of the time. LOL Apples to oranges.
Posted by: TeflonPalin | June 04, 2011 at 06:05 AM
How can all the Palin fans that have posted here pretend the question was out of line or that it was unfair. She is on a tour of our historical landmarks and talking all day long every day about our founding fathers this and our found fathers that, and you don't think it's a legitimate question to ask if she even knows who they are?
This isn't ambush journalism, these are legitimate questions for someone wanted to hold the high public office in this land. If you can't tell me about our history when you're doing a media tour of US historical sites, and you can't even answer simply questions like what newspaper do you read, then I don't think you're qualified enough to be a city councilman let alone the president.

You owe Ms. Palin an apology, she did get it right, and I'm no Palin fan:
"(The British Major who detained me) demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up."
- Paul Revere's account of The Midnight Ride in "Paul Revere's Ride" by David Hackett Fischer (Oxford University Press 1994) read it for yourself on Google Books: http://books.google.com

Palin is what we all know she is. Liberal Media tripping her up about Paul Revere ? What's funnier yet are the people on here trying to use a letter that claims (AFTER HE WARNED THE COLONIES) he spoke to a few British soldiers and told them what he had done! His ride was and did warn the colonies the British were coming. Suddenly, we conveniently forget about the lanterns in the church, etc. All to warn us , not them ! Conservatives are entertaining !

Not trying to take up for her, .... But I do have a question, I wonder what Andrew Malcolm's opinion was when Mr Obama said in the 08 Presidental Race that he had visited 57 states? .. It is not for me to judge on why both of these people said what they have said. .. However regardless of this, the real issue is the economy, this is the major issue, .. not if is she is a History major on good ole Paul.

Gosh, more difficult and 'unfair' questions for Palin. This must've been a notch more difficult for her than "What publications are you reading as you prepare for your debate?"

This is know big deal.Half the people at NBC,and college students think Martha washington was married to Moses. This was just a slip of the tongue on Sara Palins part ,and NBC,S Ignorance for trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. The american people arent Dumb,They know what NBC is trying to pull. When anybody walks the halls of NBC,They have to be carefull, because Its like walking through a den of serpants,You will get bit by one.All this has done is show me how low NBC has sunk,Their morals are lower than hell.this is why I will never watch NBC.

Clean up. Now. Not tomorrow. Really Sarah! Nobody can see the United States south of the border from Arizona. Unless the pseudo God of your wildest speaking in tongue dreams gave you X ray eyes? Poor Sarah, although I'm not a fan, I despise the America-hating liberal trash so much more. I was hoping to defend you but, looking through Revere's own account yes, he did per say 'warn' the British, but he had a gun to his head. You Mrs. Palin are an embarassment to any American over 10 years old that learned this in grade school. Please just go away.

I had so much more respect for the GOP when personal responsibility was part of their mantra (back in the mid-90s). I still didn't agree with everything the party stood for, but I respected and agreed with that premise.
The problem now with Sarah Palin (and her worshippers) is that she continues to do stupid things, and then she (and her worshippers) blame everyone else for her shortcomings.
Yes, I'm sure Palin knows what Revere did- just as I'm sure Obama really knows that there is only 50 states. What bugs me about her is that she can't answer very simple questions (i.e. "What newspapers do you read?"), and then blames the "lamestream media" (something she is now part of, as Faux News is part of that) for making her look bad. Couric isn't exactly a cutthroat, ambush journalist.
Sorry Sarah- you need to adopt part of the old GOP mantra, take some personal responsibility for your idiocy, and quit blaming others for your inadequacies. Do your homework and quit spouting off talking points that you don't really understand. Needing to write "tax cuts" on your hand is like Wile E. Coyote having to write "Road Runner" on his paw.
