Sarah Palin claims Paul Revere warned the British

Sarah Palin, if you haven't heard, is taking some of her family around the country, visiting historical U.S. landmarks, and talking to the media along the way.

Thursday her "One Nation" traveling road show stopped in Boston, where the former Alaska governor, her parents, her husband, and little Piper visited Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, and Bunker Hill. Palin posted photos of that leg of her trip on the SarahPAC blog.

One moment that you won't find posted on the blog is Palin's response to reporters when they asked her who Paul Revere was. Instead of saying, "Come on, everyone knows who Paul Revere, the silversmith and patriot is," she stammered while saying this:

"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."

Needless to say, the lamestream media are having a field day with that gaffe.

Politico: Palin makes Bachmann look like Longfellow

Forbes: This certainly gives us an entirely new point of view to consider when examining our nation’s founding.

Mediaite: Palin’s version wasn’t exactly the official History Channel rendition of the tale...

ABC: Perhaps this week's lesson in the annals of American history was necessary for Sarah Palin.

Fox News has the video up leading their site, but no text or commentary. Perhaps they're speechless.

All of this reminds me of a fortune cookie I once received that said, "We teach what we most need to learn." In which case, ride on, "One Nation," ride on.

my god? she is the gift that john mccain gave us that keeps on giving? thank you senator mccain. to think that this woman could have been a heart beat away from the presidency is disturbing to say the least. not only is she a liar who will and did and does say almost everything and anything to further her polictical and personal agenda, she has demonstrated over and over her lack of depth of american and international history both recent and aged. she is also intellectually non curious and shallow. she lacks any kind of forward thinking vision and clings to eisenhower era polictical beliefs and rhetoric. her only talents that i can determine is that she reads a pretty mean teleprompter and can mouth off a smart aleck quip here and there. the news media needs to ignore this media prostitute so that she will eventually dry up and blow away. the only thing she does is distract and confuse with her nonsense and lies. so once again, thank you john mccain.

Sarah Palin is funnier than Stephen Colbert without even trying!!

Palin was correct about Paul Revere, therefore the false accusations against her by so many media are further examples of the media's hatred of women which leads them to try to block us from political office. The reason Paul Revere rode out to say "The British are coming" was because the British army was on a mission to take the colonial militia's stock of arms (guns). Every word she said was accurate. Palin clearly states that Paul Revere warned the colonists; that the reason he warned them was to prevent the British from "takin away our arms" and that he did this to keep the colonists "secure" and be "free" (because we needed guns to fight the Revolutionary War to gain our freedom).

It is very interesting to me that I have never before seen this reference to Paul's text in my life. I am 60 years old and pretty well read and studied. If this is a true text, I just find it very interesting. But I am doubting that Sarah has studied the original texts of Paul Revere.

Palin's apparently been attending far too many of Glenn Beck and David Barton's Revisionist American History 101 classes...

Paul Revere actually cracked the Liberty Bell by hitting it a little too hard on his ride to warn the British but the sound was heard around the world and the warning was historically significant......just like SP.

Keep em coming $arah - great stuff!!!!!!!

That makes the Katie Couric interview seem eloquent and profound...absolutely unbelievable.

What a shock!.. Sarah Palin is an idiot. I suppose there are some knee-jerk supporters who still back her. She is a joke and now simply a creation of the media as oddball. As for the rest of us, would you want her as President? I think Obama dreams about running against her. It is the surest way for him to gain a second term.

I almost feel sorry for her. I definitely feel embarassed for her!

You know what she meant. Because I am SURE that no one else has EVER fumbled words and made it a little more confusing to understand. Just because you don't like her political points doesn't mean she is a complete idiot like you Mr. News man!

Well how soon you liberals forget about King Obamas 57 states gaff. Idiots! Not to mention how he got us involved in an unconstitutional war. trippled the national debt. Is this the best you got. Please! Go hug a tree and leae her alone at least she honestly cares about America. Look at Pelosi we have to pass it to find out whats in it. Be honest with yourself which is worse.

"Republics are created by the virtue, public spirit, and intelligence of the citizens. They fall, when the wise are banished from the public councils, because they dare to be honest, and the profligate are rewarded, because they flatter the people, in order to betray them." ~ Justice Joseph Story

Well

these people said YES tim pawlenty, newt gingrich, scott johnson, ron paul, mitt romney, herman cain, michelle bachmann, these people said NO haley barbuor, mitch daniels, bobby jindal, chris christie, mike huckabee, donald trump and sarah palin "paul revere warned the british" tell this Idiot this Is 2011 not 1775 and she needs to say YES or NO on running In 2012 makea decision and stop clowning around with beck, limbaugh and trump this is serious you wanna beat obama in 2012 or you wanna clowning around living In glottney and sloth and envy of our diverse society has to be taken seriously or she should find something different and better to do this Is stupidity straight up.

i don't understand how anyone could be upset at the media. if you asked my 14 year old nephew who paul revere was, he could easily tell you. i dont care if there are cameras and reporters all around, he could easily tell you. even so, she is used to the media being around her. i honestly don't think she knew what exactly paul rever did. this woman is not extremely bright. she's not an idiot like many of you claim. but she isn't very brilliant either. all of her other interviews confirm this (i.e. seeing russia from alaska, africa as a country, and any type of foreign relation answers she has given) the good news is she isn't a political figure anymore. she is a media/reality t.v. personality. if she did however, run for president and by some miracle win, i will move to canada, so help me god.

Palin may be half right saying Paul Rever warned the British; because, the British never got the message, until Conwallis's surrender years later. Sarah stay out of Boston; it is easy to get lost in Boston if you don't know where you are going.

I know all Palin followers will either ignore this and either chalk it up tho the media trying to trip her up by asking her who paul revere was and what he did, or that at one point in time he may have told a British soldier that the Americans were coming. Either way they will rationalize that she is not an idiot who doesn't deserve to be where she is. I'm a Republican and I can not stand her. She tries to put her self off as a Tea Party rogue politician, but she will sway wherever the wind blows. Honestly, she considers herself a patriot but can't tell us what paul revere did. she has been around scores of media for years and years and you expect me to believe she cant answer a simple question like that in front of a few cameras. she honestly believed that was the asnwer. i don't care what any tea bagger says, that is the truth and they know it. she is not in any way shape or form qualified to be a president, senator, governor, mayor, america's got talent judge, babysitter, dogsitter, waitress, telemarketer, etc. stick up for her if you really want to keep drinking that kool aid, but trust me fellow reps, there are much, much, much better leaders for our party out there, many of whom are not unqualified and total idiots.

It is annoying to listen to Palin as she rarely speaks in full sentences. However, when what she is saying is completely wrong, and she's toying with the idea of running for president because of "...the fire in my belly", we have wonder how many people are stupid enough to think she might have a chance in 2012.

Okay, so, actual issue aside (this is coming from someone who is not a fan of Palin too): I think it's unfair in this or any article to include the "uh"s and "um"s in a transcript of a quote. Filler words are usually taken out when quoting people. The only conceivable reason to keep them in, which I suspect is the case here, is to intentionally make somebody sound less intelligent, and is a sign of blatant bias.

Actually Palin's right he did in fact warn the British. That parts not in the Longfellow poem that your basing your snark on. He and 2 others set out that night on the ride. He was captured, one fell off his horse escaping from the British and the 3rd completed the ride. While in captivity Revere did warn the British that the Americans were ready for them and armed. He also gave them substantially higher numbers of troops they'd be facing.

This is another Partying like it's 1773 moment brought to you by the MSM You guys laughed at her for that comment too saying she didn't know the year was supposed to be 1776. Then someone pointed out to you that she made the comment to the Tea Party and perhaps you should check your history to see what happened in 1773 and if it was relevant. It was. The Boston Tea Party occurred in 1773.

I don't know what bells Palin is talking about. And, her statement in this clip isn't the most coherent ever made. But, as many have pointed out, when Paul Revere was captured by British officers, he actually did warn them not to mess with the Patriots who were ready for them.

The real story here is 1) Are the media fact checkers on vacation? or 2) Does the media actually know better and they chose to run the clip without pointing out the facts?

Most people think of Revere warning the Patriots by incorrectly envisioning him riding along shouting "The British are coming". Why would they show Palin's sound bite without dispelling that myth or pointing out that Revere did warn the British regulars when he was captured? Also, why ask Palin who Revere was in the first place? Were they hoping for something they could spin to fit their agenda?

and her chosen few thinks she is qualified to run for president, scary thought, her little bus tour around the country hasn't even taught her any history of our country, she's making a fool of herself as usual, everytime she opens her mouth, something stupid comes out of it,she needs to go back to fox, their she really fits in,their she can reside in fiction land with the other gotcha, betcha comedians.

It was a simple software glitch. They will re-program her and fix a few wires and make her all better.

The colonist were British colonist Revere was warning the British colonist that the British regulars were coming to take their arms. Palin was right about this.

Clearly Palin is no suitable potential president, nor much of anything else, but in this case the media is taking this quote too literally. It is obvious that she is trying in her inept way to say that Revere's actions on behalf of the colonists were in a more general sense a warning to the British that the colonists were going to fight. This sort of nitpicking just takes away from the more obvious problems with her lack of experience for any role on the national level.

That's ok as it is the way the liberals are teaching it today - Obama does not even know the words of the Constitution and he is a constitutional lawyer.

I dont like her at all but for all of you who think this is funny
Read a history book

The Americans at that time were British

O and another thing for all of you republicants and democraps please....
they are both the same if you would open up your eyes and stop being so naive

But it's alright that Obama thinks there are 57 States!

Sarah Palin lives in her own narrow reality shaped by her willfull ignorance of history, politics, science and her absolute contempt for the truth. Her comments sound like something an under-performing seventh-grader might write in an social studies essay test. God help us if someone this stupid and mendacious ever actually becomes president.

As if things weren't bad enough when she botched up the history of Paul Revere's ride, things got even worse when she shared Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem, from memory, of course, with the kiddies!

I can forgive a garbled response to a question. We all do it once in a while - but not consistently and thoughtlessly. I wish the media would stop playing into SP's narcissistic game. Maybe her trip should be called "One Woman" or simply "Me".

The people here defending Palin's pathetic ignorance are as much a disgrace as this woman is. There is nothing to be celebrated about this level of ignorance. This woman is a representation of everything that is bad about America right now and anyone who would want her to lead this nation must seriously hate this country something fierce.

Get this woman out of that bus and into a grade school.

You have to feel sorry for Piper in all of this. This poor kid, who looks up to her mother and who's brain is like a sponge, is learning this crap from a total nincompoop!

Watch out when Piper is of age and runs for Gov't...another Sarah in our midst.

STOP IT! This is one of the most brilliant minds in North America today. Our Sarah knows more about American history than anyone else. Her advanced mind just took things a step beyond what the average fruit fly brains in the US can handle. "He warned the British that they were not going to take away our guns." This is correct because the British were coming to take the guns away, so Paul being a British descendent wanted to give them fair warning. Now that puts that to rest. What's next dear Sarah? Come on, give me a really hard this time.

Online: Collections, Massachusetts Historical Society. Letter from Paul Revere to Jeremy Belknap. Revere did alert other patriots of British movements & intentions. Revere was detained & interrogated by British officers, and he did "warn" them they were in for a fight. Sarah is correct.

I just want to thank her for being herself what an mess go home and keep an eye on russia

Why she's even being taking seriously is a dark stain on our great nation. It's a true travesty. Let the world know that America is NOT clueless and we will never elect people who have no idea of history or have no vision. If we do, then we alone are to blame. I can only shake my head in disbelief.

She's a fraud. We've known that for a long time. Mark my words: Sarah is not running for president. She makes too much money doing American Facts For Idiots tours. The leader of even the most modest cults feels like the most powerful man in the world because he is surrounded only by people who heap praise and refuse to challenge. The only way this woman can maintain any feeling of control and power if by doing what she is doing - avoid the horrible Mainstream Media, travel by bus, pop into (and just as quickly, out of) locations of significance, make a few broad, brash, and in many cases, confused comments and hope to f*k no one has access to the internet.
The Tea Party began as a viable and bold movement. It has been highjacked by the Fringe, and today the movement conjures images of unruly, ignorant crowds led by hypocrites using them to advance their own agenda.

someone please give her a real history lesson, send her back to school,or better yet tell the tea party to recall her.boy is this all the republican party has to offer.i guess i will be cross over voting for pre. obama in 2012,at least he gets his facts straight, and he is at least trying to protect medicare, something the republicans are trying to destroy.the republicans next agenda is going after social security,i guess we will say goodbye to living old age.

Well, here's what ol' Paul himself said:

"[Page 4]

I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me... He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and added, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He imediately rode towards those who stoppd us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out."

Gee... that sure sounds to me like Paul Revere warning British soldiers that "There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up." But, hey, I'm sure the history channel has it right. Mr. Revere makes Bachmann look like Shakespeare. Ah, if only Paul had brushed up on the annals of American history.

I would have said he had a hit in the mid 60's called "Hungry".

Actually...were to be asked, the Paul Revere story/legend 95% of you would have spouted from 3rd grade memory would have been wrong.

Really? It was not a loaded question...she is visiting all the American Sites across the country.. she needs to learn the history of where she is visiting before she speaks.

How do you guys defend this? She is on the traveling America tour..

Instead of making her own up to her lack of basic American history a lot of you are blaming the media..OMG are you kidding me? Do not travel around the country to our great landmarks and not expect to get ask questions about those landmarks.. Ask anyone did Paul R warn the British or the Country man...by saying the British are coming....

She was the Republican Nominee for Vice President. That's remarkable and pathetic. She just goes around this country BSing people talking about rights, arms, lame stream media, handing out the Constitution. This woman is a fraud and huuuuuuge trouble for the Republican Party.

I have to laugh at the staunch Republicans who are claiming the media purposely put Pathetic Palin on the hot spot by asking her such a simple question. Wake up and smell the coffee! She is a embarrassment every time she turns around, in action and in mouth, (c'mon; like we want one of our highest elected officials to be a former TV Reality Show "star" ?), and a disaster to their platform! Meanwhile I just walked in and asked Michael, my 8 yr old grandson, while enjoying his cheerios, the same question. 'The British are coming!' he exclaimed. He rode a horse to tell everybody, he even added. Since I declare myself as an Independent;
Mikeman for President!

@Nancy wrote: "Palin was correct about Paul Revere, therefore the false accusations against her by so many media are further examples of the media's hatred of women which leads them to try to block us from political office."

I appreciate your clarification of the historical facts regarding Revere, but your leap from the specific ("the media is critical of Palin") to the general ("proving that they hate all women") is a pretty big one, is it not? It sounds like you are looking for "proof" of this general statement and finding it everywhere.

"Secure...free....no one's going to take away our arms...you see, it's all about state's rights, and Obamacare, Obamacare that's bankrupting this great nation. Paul Revere knew his 2nd Amendment and he knew that--oh, and it's got to be about all abortion too, those bells and shots in the Heartland, where Real America lives, those hard-working people that Paul Revere sought to save from taxes..."

Sarah Palin, like Michele Bachmann, doesn't have two spare brain cells to rub together.

Why did she befoul the North End by her presence? Couldn't the fine city of Boston do better than have an idiot like Sarah Palin visit?

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

And I used to think George Bush was a village idiot. Well, he still is, and Palin has joined him. The fact that many Americans take this shrill numbskull seriously is scary and disillusioning.
