Sarah Palin claims Paul Revere warned the British
Sarah Palin, if you haven't heard, is taking some of her family around the country, visiting historical U.S. landmarks, and talking to the media along the way.
Thursday her "One Nation" traveling road show stopped in Boston, where the former Alaska governor, her parents, her husband, and little Piper visited Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, and Bunker Hill. Palin posted photos of that leg of her trip on the SarahPAC blog.
One moment that you won't find posted on the blog is Palin's response to reporters when they asked her who Paul Revere was. Instead of saying, "Come on, everyone knows who Paul Revere, the silversmith and patriot is," she stammered while saying this:
"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."
Needless to say, the lamestream media are having a field day with that gaffe.
Politico: Palin makes Bachmann look like Longfellow
Forbes: This certainly gives us an entirely new point of view to consider when examining our nation’s founding.
Mediaite: Palin’s version wasn’t exactly the official History Channel rendition of the tale...
ABC: Perhaps this week's lesson in the annals of American history was necessary for Sarah Palin.
Fox News has the video up leading their site, but no text or commentary. Perhaps they're speechless.
All of this reminds me of a fortune cookie I once received that said, "We teach what we most need to learn." In which case, ride on, "One Nation," ride on.

We need to put Palin and Trump on one ticket, for entertainment purposes only. MAKE THIS HAPPEN! They'll never get elected, but we'll be entertained!

Oh please Baby Jesus, a Palin/Bachmann ticket would be so entertaining.

And some people still think she's smart. What does it say about those people.
To clarify for the Sarah Palin supporters: YOU'RE AN IDIOT!

As it happens, Revere did in fact warn the British:
I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul? I told him yes He asked me if I was an express? I answered in the afirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up.

This attempt to claim she's stupid based on a brief verbal statement would be totally tendentious even if she were momentarily confused, people misspeak all the time, but as it happens it probably wasn't a misstatement. She's right and the people trying to claim she is stupid are wrong, again.

This is a great example of why people like Palin and her ilk (Bachmann, Trump, etc.) should not ever be allowed to to hold elected office...
Palin demonstrates once again that when you don't know the facts, or when they don't meet your agenda, you just go ahead and make up your own.
Someone unwilling to discover the facts should not be allowed to hold public office, period. It's a matter of trust. And sound judgement.
To say politicians lie and care nothing for the people is certainly not new. But to be willfully ignorant of the the facts smacks of treason. Why? Ignorance leads the nation down a road to ruin and only benefits one person, the liar.
This is exactly the kind of ignorance and tyranny Paul Revere rode to prevent.
So lets give Sarah Palin a big Thank You for making Paul Revere relevant for today. Her bus tour won't be just another publicity stunt after all!

You can almost visualize the wheels turning in her mind, albeit slowly and off center. Almost. My guess is that her brain assembled vague snippets of history into a single narrative.
1. "He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms ..." This is a tough one, the warning part. But the arms issue is what led the Lexington and Concord battles in Massachusetts, when British regulars attempted to capture and destroy stockpiled military supplies in April 1775.
2. "... by ringing those bells." Has to be the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. Believed to be one of the bells rung in July 1776 to mark the reading of the Declaration of Independence.
3. "... makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells ..." Battle of Lexington & Concord in 1775 and Pennsylvania bell ringing in 1776.
4. "... to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed." Well, the colonists were already armed. Declaring themselves free of the British Empire would happen later and under contest. Revere's ride was in secret, so he wasn't ringing any bells, much less firing off rounds.
So this appears to be how the brain works in Mrs. Palin. Paul Revere = America Revolution = Liberty Bell/Lexington & Concord/Declaration of Independence = guns & freedom. And a horse. A horse with bells ridden by Paul Revere shooting into the air. No wonder the British caught him.

It is embarrassing that ANY American who graduated elementary school would get this wrong ... much less someone who could have been "one heartbeat away from the presidency." Why are we paying any attention to this simpleton?

Once again the media is attempting to make Palin look foolish by asking her trick questions (TIC).
Posted by: John | June 03, 2011 at 04:42 PM
I believe Palin was speaking of this account from Revere himself:
The True Story of Paul Revere
Chapter 2: The Messenger of The Revolution
1773–1775
by Charles Gettemy
Just as I reached it, out started six officers, seized my bridle, put their pistols to my Breast, ordered me to dismount, which I did: One of them, who appeared to have the command there, and much of a Gentleman, asked me where I came from; I told him, he asked what time I left it, I told him, he seemed surprised said Sr. may I have your name, I answered my name is Revere, what said he, Paul Revere; I answered yes; the others abused much, but he told me not to be afraid, no one should hurt me; I told him they would miss their aim. He said they should not, they were only awaiting for some deserters they expected down the Road.
I told him I knew better, I knew what they were after; that I had alarmed the country all the way up, that their Boats were catch'd aground, and I should have 500 men there soon; one of them said they had 1,500 coming: he seemed surprised and rode off into the road, and informed them who took me, they came down immeaditly on a full gallop, one of them (whom I since learned was Major Mitchell of the 5th Reg.) Clap (doug d) his pistol to my head, and said he was going to ask me some questions, if I did not tell him the truth, he would blow my brains out.
I told him I esteemed myself a Man of truth, that he had stopped me on the highway, & made me a prisoner, I knew not by what right; I would tell him the truth; I was not afraid; He then asked me, the same questions that the other did, and many more, but was more particular; I gave him much the same answers; he then Ordered me to mount my horse, they first searched me for pistols.
Perhaps Palin knows more than we give her credit for knowing

If you do not post this, I WILL post it everywhere else I CAN!
"Sarah Palin claims Paul Revere warned the British"
Go to WWW.masshist.org and read transcript of Revere's court deposition of circa 1775.
Paul road by moonlight to warn colonial residents to arm and assemble, ready for battle.
Later that same night he was taken prisoner by Britsh troops and told them (the BRITISH) truthfully what he had done, and because of his warning, colonial residents had armed and assembled for battle.
The LA Times and Andrew Malcolm obviously don't know what Sarah does!

Sad for the author of the PDS screed-Revere did in fact warn the British-here it is in his own words (which make the lib media look like the idiots they are)
I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He imediately rode towards those who stoppd us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then orderd me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms

I liked it when Chris Wallace asked pizza man Cain how he felt about the 'right of return'. Cain sat there, frozen. I think, if Wallace hadn't helped him get out of it, Cain would have went on to tell us what Godfather's Pizza's return policy is.
Do you seriously want any of the clowns running the country, when they have no clue about either American or world history ?
I'll stick with Obama, thank you.

Note to the Times: I remember seeing Barak Obama - without the aid of a teleprompter - saying we have "57 states" in the Union when he addressed the cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Another time, he said he and Michelle had met and been married "since college". And, the most recent - and incredibly embarrassing - was when he proposed a toast to the King and Queen of England, "To my Loyal Hosts...". But, I failed to see any of these screw-ups mentioned in your paper-- let alone garnering a headline. Pathetic...

I chuckle to read some of the defenses of Mrs. Palin in these comments. I myself, 40-something, had to think hard to remember the exact details of Revere's historical ride, and if I found myself flustered on camera I too might well have bungled the reply like Mrs. Palin did. However, I am not putting myself up as some sort of student of American history as she has been recently doing with her little motorcycle tour. Were I in her shoes I would have prepped for this sort of thing. Nevertheless, we all make mistakes. That said, some of the defenses of her reply are along the lines of, "well, we WERE British back then, so she actually was correct." Spare me. The "correct" answer in this instance was the one you find in your kids' textbooks, and the idea that she intentionally gave the TECHNICALLY correct answer is truly comical. Face it, folks: when asked the question, just just plain didn't know the answer.

To those of you questioning the motives of the reporter who "dared" to ask Palin who Paul Revere was: did you read the article?
She was AT Paul Revere's house in Boston! It's a completely appropriate question. How on earth is asking that question "below the belt"?
And how does her being "40+" years old make it any better for her? Jeez, my nine-year-old knows who Paul Revere was, and can say with a much greater degree of accuracy who he was than this dolt.
I don't care so much that she doesn't know who Revere was. What I care about is that she doesn't CARE enough to know when she's visiting his dang house. Patriot indeed.
