Sarah Palin claims Paul Revere warned the British
Sarah Palin, if you haven't heard, is taking some of her family around the country, visiting historical U.S. landmarks, and talking to the media along the way.
Thursday her "One Nation" traveling road show stopped in Boston, where the former Alaska governor, her parents, her husband, and little Piper visited Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church, and Bunker Hill. Palin posted photos of that leg of her trip on the SarahPAC blog.
One moment that you won't find posted on the blog is Palin's response to reporters when they asked her who Paul Revere was. Instead of saying, "Come on, everyone knows who Paul Revere, the silversmith and patriot is," she stammered while saying this:
"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."
Needless to say, the lamestream media are having a field day with that gaffe.

Fox News has the video up leading their site, but no text or commentary. Perhaps they're speechless.
All of this reminds me of a fortune cookie I once received that said, "We teach what we most need to learn." In which case, ride on, "One Nation," ride on.

I am a registered Republican and I am appalled by this woman. Many people refer to her as "dumb" but she is anything but dumb. Clever, ruthless, consumed with amition and gloriously ignorant, but she is not dumb. It astounds me that so many of my fellow Republicans continue to glorify her and lament the unfair "special treatment" accorded to her by the media. The media do not make these things up, she keeps saying them in front of cameras. With so many thougthful conservative Republicans out there, why are we wasting out time supporting a woefully unprepared, ignorant person like Sarah Palin? If we nominate her we will take a well deserved beating at the polls a year from this November. I for one will not be voting at all if she is the candidate of the Republican Party!

Does this woman delight in letting the country know just how much of a moron she is.I would love to see her in a debate, oh that's right was it a 4th grader that offered to debate her? The 4th grader would win hands down.If I was an Alaska resident I would tell everyone I was Canadian.We were in Alaska last year, talked & listened to a lot of conversations, seems she likes Alaska a lot more than Alaska likes her. This woman wants to be our President? I am Repub. but this just further supports my contention that she is not qualified for the job. BTW I am 50 yrs. old. I could understand you saying anybody younger than 30 yrs. old maybe because of the ignorance we see in todays youth but older than 40 yrs. old? It is mind boggling that people don't immediately think of "The British are coming, the British are coming" as Paul rides from town to town.

me, & told him to give me to the Sergeant. As soon as
he took me, the Major orderd him, if I attempted to
run, or any body insulted them, to blow my brains out.
We rode till we got near Lexington Meeting-house,
when the Militia fired a Voley of Guns, which ap-
peared to alarm them very much.
So Revere did warn the British.
In the rest, she is giving a synoptic summary of the event. The fact that, e.g., Revere himself did not fire the shots is not relevant to the narrative. Shots were fired, and Revere himself warned the British. The general impact of this warning was to alert the British that the rights of the colonists would not be trifled with.
Which is what Palin said.

Revere and Dawes then headed for Concord and came across Doctor Prescott who then joined them. They decided to alarm every house along the way.
Just outside of the town of Lincoln, they were confronted by 4 Regulars at another road block. They tried unsuccessfully to run their horses through them. Prescott, who was familiar with the terrain, jumped a stone wall and escaped. Revere and Dawes tried to escape and shortly into the chase they were confronted by 6 more regulars on horseback. Revere was surrounded and taken prisoner. Dawes got away as they were taking Revere into custody.
The British officers began to interrogate Revere, whereupon Revere astonished his captors by telling them more than they even knew about their own mission. (HA!) He also told them that he had been warning the countryside of the British plan and that their lives were at risk if they remained in the vicinity of Lexington because there would soon be 500 men there ready to fight. Revere, of course, was bluffing.
The Regulars had Revere remount his horse and they headed toward Lexington Green, when suddenly, they heard a gunshot! Revere told the British officer that the shot was a signal "to alarm the country!". Now the British troops were getting very nervous ....
A few minutes later, they were all startled to hear the heavy crash of an entire volley of musketry from the direction of Lexington's meeting house and then the Lexington town bell began clanging rapidly! Jonathan Loring, a Lexington resident captured earlier, turned to his captors and shouted "The bell's a' ringing! The town's alarmed, and you're all dead men!"
The British officers then talked urgently among themselves and decided to release their captives so as they would not slow their retrea

Palin apologists want to loo to Revere himself to say she was right. No she was not and neither are her apologists. If you read what they all post and what Revere actually says in his own words is this .. He does not WARN the Brits. He purposely misleads them by saying the Americans have over 500 colonists waiting to confront the British. I lie meant to scare them off. He was a true Patriot. No matter what the Palinites say to discredit this historical hero it will not work and does not excuse her basic elementary school knowledge of Paul Revere. Oh, and it is certainly acceptable to ask her who he was. Sarah, the questions get tougher by the way.

I am not a fan of Palin, yes in my opinion she is an idiot. But, she did not make a mistake. What she said was " He warned the British that they were not going to be taking away our rights to arms". No, Paul Revere did not ring the bells to for that purpose. While she did not make that comment as a history lesson. Again, when she tries to put her spin on evnts that have happened or are happening, she again, looks and shows how ignorant she is of what was really needed. She needed to answer the question with the answer that was correct, not on how she views things.

Every president and vice president have made some gaffes. But not almost everytime they are called on to speak. Palin and Bush jr, can't and couldn't go a day without saying something to the media/public inaccurate or just idiotic unless they didnt speak that day or they read something word for word. Read your history folks. Revere wrote in his diary that he was stopped the night of the famous ride by a British patrol and told the Redcoats that he had just warned all the countryside about their approach and that the Brits would not be a...ble to take away the colonists' guns (which is what this woman just said). It's in the history books. People really should stop hopping on the ridicule bandwagon before they know what the hell they're talking about.

However, Palin is entirely correct. When Revere was stopped, he informed (warned) a brit officer that he had warned the countryside. The alarm was passed by means of bells and gunshots. Palin knows more history than liberals do. Were all liberals aslep during 4th grade history (I remember this from waaaaaay back then)?

I can't believe that anyone would defend this woman. Really?!!!! My eleven year old knows the answer to the question. I believe she studied American History in second grade. No excuse for stupidity. This woman is a so called "Political Figure" If I wanted to be in the political spotlight, I would make sure that I knew what I was talking about. If I was taking a tour of historic sites, I would have brushed-up on my history so that I wouldn't be caught in an embarrassing situation such as this. It is completely unacceptable that anyone would try to spin this to put the media or anyone else in the wrong, Sarah Palin put herself in this situation She deserves everything she gets. Clearly Palin had been reading "Paul Revere's ride" by David Fischer
On page 134, Revere has been captured and is being questioned by members of 5th the regiment, he astonishes them by telling them more than they themselves knew of their own mission. He warned them that he had alarmed the militia at Lexington, and that their lives would be in danger if they lingered near that town.
On page 140, Revere finds himself in Medford, off of the route he had planned to take, but he raises the alarm "with a remarkable economy of effort". He went directly to the house of Captain Issac Hall and they triggered the alarm system. A townsman remembered that the sounds of repeated gunshots, beating drums and the ringing of bells filled the air.
The book describes how this was repeated in each town along the way.
Wow Sarah Palin has done exactly what she said "she wanted to raise awareness of American History". I actually got tricked into reading that book today. I'm glad I did, I learned quite a bit that I didn't know before. I started out as ignorant as Journalist, and learned something today.
