Piper Palin shares her mom's hot and cold attitude toward the media
Piper Palin, even at the ripe old age of 10, is skeptical about the media. Who can blame her? The media and the public have shown an unusually strong attraction to her mother, Sarah Palin, despite the fact that the hockey mom no longer holds public office and hasn't announced that she's running for president or even vice president.
And yet there they are following her family around the East Coast with their microphones, notebooks and questions.
"Thanks for ruining our vacation," Piper told Time photographer Dima Gavrysh in Philadelphia.
Gavrysh shouldn't take it personally. Piper was especially frigid to the media in the City of Brotherly Love when reporters got a little too close to her mom.
But before you think that the youngest of Palin's daughters has a total distaste for the media, think again. As CNN's Jeanne Moos discovered, not long after the Palins' visit to the Statue of Liberty in New York, little Piper glowed when a member of the lamestream media asked her how she enjoyed touring Lady Liberty.
It's obvious that Piper would prefer to continue her summer vacation with her mom, dad and grandparents, eating pizza with Donald Trump and learning about the country on her family's "One Nation" bus tour. But while she is learning how to cope with the Fourth Estate on this trip, she's winning over some typically cynical writers.
Gawker's Maureen O'Conner called Piper her favorite Palin. "A master of the stink-eye" who has "the unyielding determination of a young Dick Cheney" tempered with "the barely concealed malice of a young Karl Rove," O'Conner wrote.
The Gaurdian UK described her as a "most deliciously mesmerising scion."
And Yahoo says that of the Palin posse, Piper is "the real star of the show."
Keep that scowl going, kid. It's working.

Is it any wonder Bristol is protective of her Mother, She has been beat up pretty bad by the media... the hatred you have for Sarah, the kid is bound to hear and see it.
Giving the publicity to her is not going to take away from Sarah Palin ... nice try.

Well, gee Piper...If your mom is parading you and the rest of the family around in a giant bus going from state to state and she's a potential presidential candidate...WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? Sarah Palin complains about the media and then immerse herself AND her family in it and then complains about that. It is narcisissm out of control!
Posted by: RandyF | June 02, 2011 at 02:33 PM
I can tell you that her mom has set her, and the rest of the family, up for nothing but grief. And she knows it, but is to blinded by fame to care for now.

Vacation?
PUHLEEEZE!
Obviously, the kid's about as bright as her mother.
As usual Piper, your mother is running around seeking OUT the publicity and the attention from the media, at the same time bemoaning the Big Ol' Bad media's treatment of her. It's not a vacation Piper, it's just another media ho'ing stunt by your less than intelligent hypocritical mother.

Yes, yes, yes! Another legitimate , unbiased article from the L.A. Times. Wow it seems like it's becoming a habit. If the L.A. Times can do this ,perhaps there is still hope for some of the msm. Perhaps some reporters are figuring out that being unemployed probably sucks & it is where most journalists are headed.

Piper, a vacation is when your family goes together in a car or van,
discreetly, and thus having an enjoyable family vacation.
NOT IN A BIG OLD BUS trying to get attention!

Aw, heck, leave the kid alone. She's a little kid. She's only 10 years old. .

Really? REALLY? Shame on you LA TIMES... lets bring the children in on this... disgusting. The kid has all the right to give the stink eye. -- LEAVVVVEE BRITNEY ALONEEEEE
On another note, the media obviously cannot get enough of Sarah Palin. If she says its not for political reasons, then it isnt. Leave her alone. The media is fueling this fire. If you hate her guts, quit covering her. DURR

I am not a fan of Mrs. Palin but I can tell you from hearth that the expression I saw on Piper' face was only the natural reaction of 10 years old child that is angry. The way this young girl has been portrayed is malicious and show the lack of respect and care we for our kids in America. Attacking this beautiful girl is abusive and unethical.
Posted by: noemi | June 02, 2011 at 10:49 PM
msm has become burdensome at times.
who approaches a child with questions without first addressing the parent?
did they do this to the obama daughters?
no, they stayed away.

I haven't taken off Palin's sticker off my car since 2008,,, run Palin and give them hell.
Posted by: mcg | June 03, 2011 at 02:19 AM
Wow, going after a little 10 year old girl. The LA Times has sunk to a new low. Palin Derangement Syndrome is a real illness!
For the idiot saying that isn't a vacation unless you are in a car or van....says who? Sarah can take a vacation using any mode of transportation she wishes. She didnt ask the media to follow her. And she doesn't tell them where she is going. They follow her because they can't help themselves. They are obsessed! Like stalkers.
Libs are jealous of her. So jealous I think it has drove the majority insane! But it is funny as hell to watch, and I love the popping noise as all the libbies heads explode. LOL.
Posted by: Dori | June 03, 2011 at 05:03 AM
The liberal media just doesn't know what to do with Sarah Palin. They tried to destroy her and her family with their usual mudslinging tactics. In the words of Sarah, "Don't retreat, reload!" You go girl!!!!
Posted by: Barb | June 03, 2011 at 06:21 AM
Kelly..might want to get your facts straight..Piper is only 10..the comments you gleaned from some rag are about her teenage sister who was defending her mom. Your comment says more about you then her.
Posted by: S.Morgan | June 03, 2011 at 07:02 AM
Kids are cute and often if you watch they tell you volumes about their parents' values.
Same works for news outlets. Anybody print who signed the checks for the big busses, the publicity, the paint, the clothes? No? well, maybe you could tell me what great school of journalism you graduated from, cum laude, come loud or lude?
The money-money-money for crashing the sincere weekend bike-riders' event
probably came from the same billionaire boys' club that bought and paid for the '08 circus.
Oh, you never thought to check THAT either? Tell me again why newspapers are falling apart, it's the classifieds, isn't it?
Let's see: you learned to operate a portable recorder and...what else? the recorder changes and improves every year, though. Maybe I'd like fries with that...

Wow! I can't believe some of the comments on here. Ripping apart a 10 year old? Already questioning her intelligence? Grow up people and keep in mind she's 10!!! This is exactly the type of media attention the Palin's complain about. They realize they're in the spotlight for a reason, but it's the negative, hateful crap that is wrong on so many levels! They've been attacked more than any other political family in history and it's rediculous! I understand why some people disagree with some of her political views, but to attack her and her children personally makes absolutely no sense. I'm beyond sick of it.
Posted by: LJ | June 03, 2011 at 07:56 AM
THIS GIRL IS NO STAR. The fact that she even speaks or LASHES out in public in anyway shows just what kind of job her dumbfounded mother has done with her
Posted by: JUNJUN | June 03, 2011 at 08:38 AM
My Gosh, is this a new low for the liberal media circus? They have done everything they can to degrade the image of Sarah Palin and her family obviously because she is a threat to their left wing agenda. NOW, they have to attack her 10 yr. old daughter. People need to stop support these rags
Posted by: Arne smith | June 03, 2011 at 08:54 AM
Children deserve to have their privacy and dignity respected, regardless of the ambitions of their parents. I have zero respect for Sarah and Todd as parents.
It was exceedingly unwise and exploitive for the Palins to put their children on a reality TV show (just ask Kelly Osbourne if spending one's teen years on reality TV is a good idea).
Now, on Sarah's ego trip, poor Piper is not being protected by her lousy parents and grandparents. It is painful to see the girl so mistreated, and shamed, in public, by the very people who should be protecting her from the glare of the spotlight.
The Bushes and the Clintons vigorously protected their children from the media circus. Completely aside from politics, I admire them as parents. I have total disdain and contempt for the Palins as parents.

You would think this Knucklehead, Sarah Palin, would have enough common sense to keep her kids out of the public eye and away from the media..oh wait, it's Sarah Palin..that explains it...
Posted by: Shae | June 03, 2011 at 10:06 AM
Does this make THREE Palin kids that have been attacked in the media? Like Cheney's daughter was blasted for being gay? What is with the "party of inclusion"? Do you see Republicans going after Democrats' kids? The kids are not running for office. Leave them alone!
Posted by: Mark | June 03, 2011 at 10:29 AM
I can't stand this woman. Everyone is constantly wondering why the news is making a big deal about this woman: it's because of stories like these and the fact that whenever they come out, we all glue our eyes to the tv screen to pay attention. If this country were to not pay any attention to Sarah Palin, she wouldn't be on the news nor would she be trying to run for President (GOD HELP US ALL)
What Sarah is doing to Piper is what she did to Bristol: she showed her off like some trophy. Then when we get mad about that trophy, she blames the media for criticizing her children, when in fact it truly is her fault.
New plan everyone, whenever you see Palin on tv, IGNORE IT
Posted by: Adrian | June 03, 2011 at 11:59 AM
but i do believe that Piper should be at home with her siblings. She has no reason to be harassed by the media like this
Posted by: Adrian | June 03, 2011 at 12:02 PM
Maybe Piper you should encourage you Mother to go home????
Posted by: Jeanie | June 03, 2011 at 12:32 PM
Young Piper is just 10 years old. She gets tired and is protective of her parents. What can you expect? Mr & Mrs Palin would be best served to let their children be children and keep them away from the spotlight. This little lady is spending her youth (which can never be recovered) in the limelight of the press. It could very well damage her for life. Let her alone and leave her growing up years free of the torment that comes with politics. No child deserves to be harassed in such a harsh and burning light. I suggest that this type of exploitation could be construed as a form of child abuse. Mr & Mrs Palin give your child some protection and PRESS you lay off her, she's just a baby.

Think I'll lower myself down into your gutter for a moment, if you don't mind...but hey, it's all about "sharing" with you Socialist isn't it? So I know you'll be cool "sharing" your gutter with me for a moment.......
Bashing a KID, REALLY?
But since YOU insist on going there, AT LEAST be realistic...
You think Piper is "FAT" ?
She looks like a super model compared to the youngest Obama girl, Sasha ! So I wouldn't go around throwing rocks, dude!
And for the rest of the Socialists.....I CLEARLY remember the OBAMA family putting their kids on TV, (I believe it was one of those bastion's of political debate such as "Entertainment Tonight" or "Access Hollywood" ) doing interviews and trotting them around for all the media, when ObaMao was running.......now is it ONLY "exploitation" of a politician's kids when it's a Republicans kids ?
As per usual, the HYPOCRISY coming from the LEFT is ASTOUNDING !
And you all wonder why the GOP massacred you in the 2010 elections ?
Let's review.....
DEM's kid = OK for the kid to be seen and heard from in the media ?
GOP's kid = NOT ok for the kid to be seen and heard from in the media ?
PLEASE ADVISE !
PS: If you think that your side can tell lies and make turn them into truths....not working out for your side too well, now is it ?
As for that "brain trust" ObaMao.....
"I've now been in 57 states – I think one left to go." – Barack Obama at a campaign event in Beaverton, Oregon.
As we now ALL know (but only 60% of the country will admit to)....going to Harvard on a Affirmative Action PITY scholarship does NOT a president make.
PS: What was the unemployment rate UP to today....oh yeah, UP 9.1 %

Principled. Trustworthy. Educated. Consistent. Honorable. Noble. Truthful. Authentic. Steadfast. Credible. Accurate. Dependable. Honest. Sincere. Factual. Candid. Plainspoken. Reliable. Correct.
Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Ron Paul has voted this way for decades, when everyone else from BOTH political parties voted to expand our monsterous federal government, restrict our freedoms and liberties, take lobbyist money in exchange for political favors, and swamp us with trillions in debt.
Ron Paul sets the bar so high, it makes the other political candidates appear like children. No wonder why the political establishment does not like to even acknowledge him, since he makes them all look so bad in comparison. Ron Paul will serve the American People, not the special interests, not the military industrial complex, not big business wall street, and certainly not the political establishment.

Piper us a descerning 10yo.
She knows who are fair and who are unfair.
Sarah does not need the slanted media. She can speak to the people via www.sarahpac.com, twiter and facebook.
She prefers people watch or read exactly what she wants to say instead of twisted misquotes and comments by propaganda machines.
WE THE PEOPLE (Piper included) should STOP Obama & the evil press from ruining the country and OUR freedom.

You're really printing a story about what a 10 year old thinks? I guess the Edwards story didn't occupy enough of the paper's time. What an unbelievable waste of space.

While serving as a vehemently virulent and vituperative critic of conservatives in general - sorry, but I seem to be channeling that flowery reactionary of Gordian circumlocution and pomposity, George Will - and Sarah Palin in particular, I hope we entertain more civility in our characterizations of Palin’s political life and aspirations. We have no right to her private life and children just as I wish she had no right to invade my peripheral vision with her political philosophy when I seek my morning Pepsi.
Nevertheless, regard the words of Rodney King, who by measure of the transgressions against his body astounds us with words of such tolerance, compassion and understanding: Can't we all just get along?
With that in mind, I am sorry Sarah Palin. But more importantly, thank you Mr. King for reminding me how a real American should behave.

If Pres. Obama's children acted this way, it would have been all over the news. I'm sure it's not easy for the Obama girls, nor was it easy for the Bush Girls or Chelsea Clinton and so on. Why do people continue to make excuses for everything relating to Palin? I find this child's actions and now this statement equally revolting. Like the press or not, this child should be taught to respect people, even people you may not like. It does not give you carte blanche to physically push and be nasty to people. What in God's name will this child be like as an adult? Being protective of parents is one thing, but noone stepped over the line with Palin. And for the people supporting this woman, what new ideas or solutions has she offered? She criticizes Romney and everyone under the sun, but never offers a solution. If Obama gets re-elected it will be her fault, yet AGAIN!
Posted by: KT | June 03, 2011 at 02:47 PM
The child should be in school. Summer vacation hasn't started yet. Sarah should not have brought her along.
And for those of you who think that "children" includes Mary Cheney, give me a break. She's an adult and can take care of herself.
And, yes, your friend Rush Limbaugh went after the Obama children last year. Uncouth and uncool!
The children should be off limits but the parents of the children should act like parents and not irresponsible teen agers.
Posted by: Renshaw | June 03, 2011 at 03:02 PM

Leave the kid alone liberals. That is just sick.
The Obama's did not keep their children out of the spotlight. I am sure if you want to examine those kids closer you'll find a lot to report on. But no, you hypocrites won't do that.

I feel for poor Piper. I remember when I was 10 years old and my mom, rented a bus for our vacation and then had "We the People" "One Nation" and her signature painted on the side. We weren't hounded by the press. Oh for the good old days when a crazy narcissistic ignoramus could tell convoluted stories about Paul Revere and not have to be hounded by the press. This woman is not just an insult to American women she is an insult to the entire human race.
Posted by: reger Slim | June 03, 2011 at 05:34 PM
Another Palin. Heaven forbid. And if Sarah really wanted a family vacation without the media, she should have not covered her bus with writing to gain attention. She is all about attention. And she drags her children into it, than she complains when they pay attention.
As for Sarah's comprehension of the constitution or American history, you could fit it in a thimble with two caraway seeds and still have room. She continues to give her version of history to the horror of anyone conversant with the same. It just is not recognizable with her interpretation. And yet the media, she claims to hate, never and I mean never, corrects her or questions just where she received her information.
She provides a laugh to anyone with an education. But her brain dead fans, and her poor children actually think she knows something. And being raised by this media tramp, with a lack of values regarding anything but publicity, are bound to need therapy.
This is more the fault of our shallow, media. They continue to cover that which deserves contempt or better still no coverage. She is not relevant and neither is the press that cover her inane utterances.
