Mitt Romney leads in Iowa poll, Sarah Palin a close second, Ron Paul dips to seventh
Mitt Romney, no longer in the shadow of Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump after they announced last month that they would not seek the Republican nomination for president, is leading in a Public Policy Poll of probable voters in Iowa.
The former Massachusetts governor, who is expected to throw his hat into the ring Thursday, received 21% of the nods from likely Iowans polled who typically view themselves as right-leaning.
Sarah Palin and Herman Cain were tied for second with 15%. Newt Gingrich is next with 12%, Michele Bachmann got 11%, Tim Pawlenty received 10% and Ron Paul had 8% in results released Wednesday.
"Cain and Palin have been the biggest beneficiaries in Iowa of Huckabee and Trump's decisions not to run. Cain is at 15% now despite not even having been included on our last poll," the polling firm wrote on its blog Wednesday. "Palin's gained 7 points in the six weeks since our last poll compared to 5 point gains for Romney, Pawlenty, and Bachmann, a 3 point gain for Gingrich, and a 2 point bump for Paul."
In May, Public Policy Poll released a survey that showed that, even in the wake of President Obama's release of his long-form birth certificate, half of Republicans still didn't believe that he was born in Hawaii.

That's funny... Ron Paul just came in second in the most recent Gallup poll. Is it me or does the LA Times hate RP?

POLLS ARE RIGGED! LATIMES are a bunch of corporate whores, they hate Ron Paul! Complete bias against him, Obamalite and Soccer mom are dipping that's why they're doing this, while Ron Paul is getting larger and larger.
Posted by: Jacob | June 01, 2011 at 01:47 PM
I don't know who conducted this poll, but I am willing to bet my entire salary that Ron Paul is not in 7th. Until the MSM stops their biased reporting, I will take all that they say with a grain of salt. Ron Paul 2012! The two candidates this article claims are frontrunners are jokes. Comedians are salivating at their mouths to get Palin in office and Romney will never get elected simply based upon the "Mormon" factor. I have nothing against Mormons, but the general public has not warmed to the idea yet.

This is one big joke and the only ones laughing are TPTB

This poll only had 481 people surveyed. When Paul was polling 2nd and 3rd in gallup and cnn of over 1000 people surveyed why wasn't that in the headline? I hate LA times so bad it makes me want to puke.

Ron Paul dips to seventh! Now how funny is that? US president Ronald Reagan, who was a self-declared conservative, is widely seen as a symbol of American conservatism. In an interview, he said "I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism." Here's a known individual who openly stated the virtues of Libertarian conservative. Libertarian Conservative is what Ron and Rand Paul espouse. This is the conservatism that espouses bigotry and prejudice. Look at: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Paul and see what Ron and Rand stand for. Ron Paul dips to seventh! Now how funny is that?

Sarah Palin(SLP) in second place behind Romney. Who'd a thought it? This lady(SLP) is touched in the head! After Katie Couric quizzed her(SLP) enlightening the world how dinged she was, there isn't a chance in hell she have any impact if she ran. President Obama would have a cake-walk because of his great leadership ability. Someone needs to inform her that the only ones who will back her candidacy are fewer and far between. Sadly I know she will continue to suck all the air out of others who are trying to gain traction. Here's my question: Who placed a microphone near her mouth? Why does the gullible News outlets(ABC,CBS, NBC, etc.) continue to give SLP free publicity? At this moment in time she is being very "Mavericky" and not telling the majors what or where, but she is talking to FOX! She's not going to run for the presidency, she making sure she in the news so that gullible people will donate monies.

This poll is rigged as the mainstream media continues their blackout of the modern day founding father Ron Paul who is the only one opposing the wars and calling for an end to the debt enslaving privately owned Rockefeller/Rothschild Federal Reserve Cartel. Newt Gingrich would be more than happy to initiate World War 3, Sarah Palin couldn't lead a fish to water, and Herman Cain is a former Federal Reserve chairman himself. End the Fed, end the wars, restore the constitution, downsize Federal Government, and rebuild our own country instead of policing the world.

Ron Paul 7th place?
HAHAHA!
He won the CPAC Poll, which is almost the biggest poll there is.
He ALSO won the first 2012 primary debate by popular demand, even though Fox reported that Herman Cain won. RP won the Fox online poll by more than 70 percent.

Can Ron Paul win the Republican nomination? No.
Could Ron Paul win the general election against Obama? No.
Ron Paul is a waste of time, money, and media space.
Posted by: Mike Huckabee | June 01, 2011 at 03:15 PM
My assumption of why Ron Paul didn't do as well in this poll is because it said
"from likely Iowans polled who typically view themselves as right-leaning."
The issue might be because Ron Paul supporters who would vote for him in a primary, don't necessarily view themselves as right wing. They view themselves as the freedom or liberty wing. In some scenarios, that makes them "left wing".
If the question was simply "Which of these Republican candidates do you like best", Ron Paul would fare better.

Good joke. That means they are scared. Ron Paul 2012.

Gallup Poll May 24, 2011 shows Ron Paul in third place at 10%, only a few points below Romney and Palin (the latter has not announced that she is running). Ron Paul in the Gallup poll was more popular than Gingrich, Cain, Pawlenty, Bachmann, Johnson, Santorum, and all other Republicans. The Gallup Poll was based on a random survey of 971 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents of voting age. The LA Times has never reported on this poll, as if this poll never took place.
However, this poll which the LA Times bases this article on is from a sample size of less than half of the May 24 Gallup Poll. The poll which the LA Times writes this story on is from a small sample of 481, and excludes all independents who are not "usual' Iowa Republican primary voters.

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_IA_0601513.pdf
It is clear that the LA Times, which has shown extreme bias against Ron Paul during and since his 2008 presidential bid, is determined to continue to display extremely biased reporting against Ron Paul during the current 2012 race. The LA Times shows its bias against Ron Paul and Constitutional government in that its headline includes the title, "Ron Paul dips to seventh" and in that the LA Times has never reported on the results of the May 24, 2011 Gallup poll which shows Ron Paul in third at 10%.
Dear LA Times: you love big government, you love high taxes, you love massive government debts and deficits, and you consistently show bias against Ron Paul. Your obvious bias in reporting the news is one of the major reasons why your paper is becoming less and less popular and less profitable.
Go Ron Paul 2012!

Polls like this cannot be true unless you believe that everyone is controlled by satan - the evil spirit so that they think the same way. So they just sample 481 people and then try to influence the election with such lies.
Genuine born again christians are excluded from such polls because "they are not children of disobedience".
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Eph2:2

What a joke. Such a beautiful state I live in (California) with such a corrupt set of politicians and companies like the Times with their blatant agenda.
Ron Paul 2012. The more they blast him at this point, the more obvious it becomes to the masses that he's the only one who cares about this country.

There will be NO change with compromisers . These leading the polls republicans are part of the same system and will produce zero change. Ron Paul is the USA s only home of change and last voice of truth before big changes come. He is the true patriot and all the others are like Benedict Arnolds. Just keep the same system going. It's amazing that they haven't killed Ron Paul yet. God bless him.

I have seen several artilces by the L.A. Times that seem to downplay or take shot at Ron Paul more than other establishment media outlets.
It is clear where their editorial staff stands on America's future. They would see us made second-world, in thrall to globalist elites.
Ron Paul would bring about real change, and that is what they're afraid of. Much better to follow course, elsewise Americans might actually experience the benefit of the last century's unparalelled technological advancement.

We are truly screwed if we end up with just another status quo empty suit who doesn't have the courage to fix this country's problems.
We need someone willing to tackle the deficit and $14 Trillion+ debt, and get us out of these endless taxpayer-funded wars and "nation-building" exercises. Someone who respects the Constitution. That person is Ron Paul.
If we just continue down the path we're going the United States will be forced to default on its obligations, and our standard of living will go down further. More jobs will vanish. Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid will go completely bankrupt and the politicians who said we must "keep our promises to our senior citizens" yet weren't willing to make significant spending cuts will be forced to explain why they let the country go BROKE.
Without a man like Ron Paul in the White House, our taxes will likely go up and our position in the world will continue to go down. Without Ron Paul, jobs will move overseas and investments in our own country will slow to a trickle. But rest assured that without Ron Paul we'll continue giving away hundreds of billions of our taxpayer dollars in foreign aid, and hundreds of billions more in corporate bailouts, enriching the bankster class while the middle and lower classes struggle to get by from paycheck to paycheck.
The only candidate seriously addressing these issues has been Ron Paul. If we don't give his ideas a chance we're ALL going to pay the price in our standard of living.. it's not even a matter of IF but WHEN.

This is just another worthless poll using an outdated 2008 calling list of right-wing zealots. The people who are conducting polls like this have an agenda to skew the results as they wish to see them.
When a truly random scientific poll is conducted that includes real voting people (not dues paying hardline Republican corporate types), the results will have Ron Paul leading the pack every time. The only negative about concocted polling like this one (that has Romney leading in Iowa??)is that some people will actually believe it and vote accordingly.
Oh well, these pollsters will all be eating crow when Ron Paul wins the Iowa Straw Poll in a few months!

Really? Mitt Romney, a RINO with Democrat heart within. Iowan better check his record before casting the Vote... A flip floper Mitt, a Pro abortion, a Pro choice and Godfather of ObamaCare... Give me a break, GOP, really, is sinking. They don't even have a valid candidate to win this race. Obama surely win 2012 not because I love him, but GOP sucks... sigh...:(

As a Los Angeles resident, I am so embarrassed of LA Times.
It is pretty obvious the tone of this article is to smear honesty, justice and truth...and no one is more incorruptible, principled, unwavering, consistent with his beliefs (and his sterling voting record), very intelligent, brave and has a firm grasp of how to run an economy than Ron Paul.
The duopoly status quo in power is so afraid of him (including the handlers of this daily) that the only way to discredit this statesman/living Founding Father is to smear, spread lies and belittle him to the full extent.
Ron Paul represents the common, average American so fed up with the countless years of deceit and lies brought about the the conniving two-sides of one (party) coin mainstream, business-as-usual Democratic-Republican political spectrum.
To belittle Ron Paul is to belittle us , the freedom loving American Public.

Yeah Right!
I have a couple "Polls" I'd like to see...
1.) People who would vote for a liberty candidate that would end the fed and bring the bankers to justice..
Result: Ron Paul 100% ;-)
2.) People who make their living sponging off the government.
Result: Ron Paul 0%
Posted by: AAAAANDRE | June 01, 2011 at 11:22 PM
It depends on who you ask, what you ask them. and what you report!
Ron Paul 42% FAVORABLE! Could be the Headline too.
FULL Report here... http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_IA_060151...
"PPP surveyed 481 usual Iowa Republican primary voters from May 27th to 30th. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews. PPP is a Democratic polling company."
They'd rather Ron Paul didn't win? Too bad for Obama.
And what results you publicize...
Q8 - 42% have a favorable opinion of RP
Q19 - RP 6th 8%
Q20 - RP 5th 11%
Q26 Do you think Barack Obama was born in the
United States?
A: Bzzzt!!! Wrong Question! Should be: Is Barack Obama ELIGIBLE for Office? ;-)
Posted by: AAAAANDRE | June 02, 2011 at 12:22 AM
I voted for Obama in 2008. I would like to vote for Ron Paul for 2012. I wish I knew more about him in 2008 I would have voted for him then. McCain/Palin was not going to happen. If I can't vote for Ron Paul in 2012 I would vote Obama again over Palin.

Posted by: daraya2THINK | June 02, 2011 at 12:51 AM
Wow? LA times clearly is grasping at hot air for its information sources. Iowa is an interesting state, but from what I know, Paul is well thought of and well known there. I suspect Romney will remain popular for no particular reason other than someone said he is popular. Palin will continue to look like a moron with big support but no possibility of achieving anything other than making conservatives look bad. Cain has received an unusual amount of positive press for a republican from major media outlets which has been pushing him upward. I don't really have any problems with him yet, but I don't see anything special. Gingrich is simply unacceptable to any conservative and really to anyone who considers themselves an American. From sources I have seen, Paul could get upwards of 15 percent of the republican vote in Iowa. He may lose to Romney and Palin, but he stands above the rest.
