Rep. Anthony Weiner, confronted with a New York Post reporter armed with a video camera, explained Thursday that he was on his way to his community office and was not going to resign from Congress.

“I’ve betrayed a lot of people and I know it, and I’m trying to get back to work now, try to make amends to my constituents and of course to my family,” a contrite Weiner said.

Yesterday Weiner was in the news for several reasons, the most salacious being the appearance of an X-rated photograph allegedly of the congressman. The image was on conservative Andrew Breitbart’s cellphone and photographed by the Opie & Anthony radio program where Breitbart was a guest.

When the reporter from the Post asked Weiner on Thursday if there are any other photos of him that may surface, Weiner did not say no.

“As I said when I spoke in my press conference on Monday, I exchanged inappropriate things with people and I think that I’ve got to now deal with those consequences,” he said.

Yesterday the New York Times reported that three sources confirmed that Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, an aide of Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, is pregnant. Today when asked about the....

...pregnancy, the congressman refused comment. Abedin is traveling with Clinton; On Thursday they met with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Yesterday Weiner found an ally of sorts with former Gov. Eliot Spitzer who said he empathized with the congressman.

“Look, let me be very clear. I sympathize with Anthony Weiner. I know he is going through torment like virtually no other,” said Spitzer, who was forced to resign as governor when it became known that he had frequented high-priced prostitutes over a period of several years while he was in office.

“But his greatest sin, from the perspective of the public, was not being truthful at the moment of crisis. Because what that showed, unfortunately, was a flaw in his judgment,” Spitzer said. “That trust and bond has now been broken ... not just by the behavior, but by that additional lie on top of it.”
