DNC chairwoman supports U.S. auto industry so much she owns a Japanese car
Oh, how embarrassing.
Like roll-up-the-tinted-windows-and-slouch-down-in-your-seat embarrassing.
The new chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee was criticizing Republicans who opposed President Obama's bailout of the American automakers union, oh, no, make that American automakers.
"If it were up to the candidates for president on the Republican side," said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, "we would be driving foreign cars. They would have let the auto industry in America go down the tubes."
So Michael O'Brien of The Hill newspaper went and checked what kind of automobile loyal-American-car-supporter Debbie Wasserman Schultz owns.
Yup, you guessed it -- Japanese.
Drive as she says, not as she does.

Out of curiosity, what make? A lot of the so-called Japanese autos use American labor and parts.

Gee, a hypocrite and a big Democrat, who would have ever thought!

Just another situation that this whole administration are slimy liars, dishonest and completely self serving thieves. And the #1 worst one is Barry himself. He'll never learn, he just needs to be sent home and all his minions tossed out on their collective a$$es. Period.

You DO realize how stupid this opinion is, no? Her personal choice of vehicle for herself has NOTHING to do with the state of the US auto industry, and how without the bailout it could have crumbled.
You get paid for writing this stuff??

Debbie.. next time engage brain before shooting off you mouth... What a twit!

Government has no business telling us what kind of car to buy, or even nudging us in any particular direction in our buying habits. It should be just as General Motors' new slogan says: "May the Best Car Win."
(Granted, it was supremely audacious for GM to adopt that slogan, given that, if you check the reliability records Consumer Reports publishes, GM's cars tend to be the worst out there.)

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is one of these new democrats. You can tell because there is no hyphen between Wasserman and Schultz.

THIS is a typical lib/prog/odumbo party member. Even tho she lies...she still has power to make US do the fearless leaders will. terrible, terrible and terrible.

You know, the sad thing about GM, Chrysler, and Ford is that they have made HUGE steps to improve their vehicles...now GM and Chrysler have created themselves quite a set-back, I think. It's too bad really. I drive a Honda, 13 years old and I bought it new. While the US autos are competitive in reliability now, this turns me off big time now that I'm ready for another new car. (not Ford though, they foresaw the strings & stigma that accompany such a relationship) For people to scream about saving the US auto companies and then drive a foreign car, MILES, is pathetic. The exact definition of HYPOCRISY.

From Wiki
The Toyota Venza is a mid-size crossover wagon produced by Japanese automaker Toyota and unveiled at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.[3] Based on the Toyota FT-SX concept car unveiled at the 2005 North American International Auto Show, the Venza was primarily engineered at Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and designed at the Calty Design studios in Newport Beach, California.[1] It is currently slotted in size and price between the RAV4 compact crossover SUV, and the Highlander mid-size crossover SUV that has third-row seating. However, the Venza is an inch longer than the Highlander and for the 2009-2010 model years, the base Venza's MSRP was $1000 USD higher than the base Highlander.
The Venza is built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) in Georgetown, Kentucky,[2], production having commenced on November 10, 2008.[3]

From the party of lip-service. They couldn't care less about anything that doesn't get them re-elected. Buying American? Pfffft--that's for the little people. What incredible hypocrites.

While it may make DWS look bad, it does not weaken her point.
Had Republicans been in charge, the U.S. auto industry would have collapsed, taking hundreds of thousands of jobs with it. I know the conservatives don't care about that, if the "free market" dictates that every U.S. auto job should go overseas then so be it, pure Capitalism is more important than American Exceptionalism to them.

Desperate Debbie has no spine. She should look no farther than her favorite outlet for her WHINING, MSNBC and insipidly obnoxious Ed Schultz, a man after her own heart:
During the re-election campaign, she brought her megaphone and a handful of NAGS to shout into Allen West's headquarters that he was a misogynist and a racist explained here:
http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/broward/blog/2010/10/wasserman_schultz_other_dems_c.html
she is pathetic. her district has caught on and she will have competition this cycle.
it is time to reinvent herself. the old invalidations don't work. she should start with keratin treatment in her hair, an hcg diet to get rid of her long ago baby weight, and a daily trip to the House gym.
If she asked Paul Ryan, the "IRON MAN" of the Hill to join his morning P90X workout, I am certain he would coach her in budgets as well, since they are on the same committee. It would definitely CLEAR HER CLUTTERED BRAIN AND BRING HER A SENSE OF INNER PEACE:
http://news.racinepost.com/2010/03/congressman-paul-ryan-is-workout.html
he might even give her some sage advice about procrastination and failure to fulfill your obligations when you are in the majority.
her antipathy is antiquated. she has no defense so she spouts hatred, which is why her "good" buddy, Gabby is in the predicament she is.
Gabby wouldn't like her behavior and the electorate doesn't either.
How to win friends and influence people...Debbie, GET A LIFE!

You can ask my kids, I have been telling them for years that if we don't buy American made products (all of them) our friends and neighbors will be unemployed. So, we have to decide, do we pay a little more through purchases made in AMERICA or we we pay a LOT MORE through UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. Please don't tell me that it isn't us that pays.....we have extended unemployment to the point, they may as well just call it welfare.
Please purchase carefully and keep those that we care about (our grandchildren) in a Great Country that can take care of itself.
Posted by: Wendy | May 26, 2011 at 06:33 PM
Oh brother... I will not listen to this guilt trip parade over a person just wanting a reliable car to get to and from work. When I had a car I had a Toyota as well. If US cars did not make cars in a way they broke or guzzled gas like a Ferrari for so long there would have been more loyalty to them than there is. She probably had the car before GM got bailed out as Toyota cars work for a while as long as you do not fall into the faulty brakes category.
Posted by: p m | May 26, 2011 at 06:36 PM
Funny, I seem to remember the near hysteria that accompanied Toyota's entry into NASCAR, when the irony of the situation was that the Toyota Camry was the only make and model competing in NASCAR that was actually manufactured in the USA, the others (Chevy/Ford/Chrysler) were made in Mexico and Canada. So I'd say get the facts before you jump to conclusions, the title of this article sounds super-sensational and all but does it tell the true story?
Posted by: Peter S | May 26, 2011 at 06:42 PM
There is nothing wrong with what she did. Allow me to male am example: I am a cyclist and own a Specialized, now I happen to like Trek bikes as well. Does owning a Specialized somehow make me anti Trek? No! Only a moron would think that! I simply bought what I thought was the better bike despite liking both.
On a side note, I'm all for buying American when it is the superior product. I'm not going to buy something just beCause it was made here. That, also, would be stupid.

Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, Socialists, they are all one, and the same. These creatures are incapable of thought, and common sense, so they come off immediately insulting, and name calling the opposition. The question to ask Americans today is: "Are you better off now, than you were two and half or three years ago?" With an almost 14.5 trillion dollar debt, unemployment hovering at 9.5% nation wide, a housing market in the duldrums, $4 plus a gallon of gas, foreclosures going out of proportion nation wide, and inflation staring us in the face, what other nice things can we expect from our current administration? If Obama gets re-elected in 2012, imagine the dollar defaulting on the International Market, $9 a gallon of gas, say good-bye to your 401K, medicaid, medicare will dissapear immediately, our once wonderful country will become less than a third world nation, and the urgency to find somebody to blame it all on will become priority numero uno. Then again, we can blame it all on Bush, why not, this is our free out of jail card, and we can play it any time we want to.

I lol at all of you who are trying to explain away this obvious display of hypocrisy, which is typical of the left.

Everyone is focusing on the bailout of the American auto industry yet you fail to realize that Japanese automakers received government subsidies in the form of government intervention to create a weak Yen. Interesting that Japanese automakers have suffered since the Yen has recently appreciated significantly relative to the USD. We need to stop pretending that 'free markets' work and realize that governments are manipulating currencies to give their companies competitive advantages (just look at the Chinese)
Posted by: Joe in PA | May 26, 2011 at 07:10 PM
You all do know that many "foreign" cars are made in the USA and many "domestic" cars are made all over the world. It's globalism. It doesn't matter where it is. If there is a demand for it then it'll be there. The real problem is the overpaid/compensated unions and crappy business models that the leadership have. They cannot support themselves because the Unions and leadership take too much $$ so it fails. And our government supports this. This new greedy way of business doesn't work and when used overseas fails as well. If the Japanese know better ways to run a business then we need to let the others fail and the Japanese will pick up the slack, expand and hire the lay-offs. I mean this is the USA for crying out loud. People will always need cars so there will always be a demand.

The liberals have been telling you for years, but you conservatives just don't listen.
Do as we say because we know what is good for you. Don't look at what we do. That is our own business and not relevant. It is what we say that counts.
Vote for Obama or you are a racist. EOD.

Anyone who has had the misfortune of having to listen to this woman realizes she is in a trance and repeats (over and over and over) only what has been fed to her. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be laughable to watch/listen to her.

She doesn't drive a Venza. She drives a 2010 Infinity FX35. The FX is made in Japan, although you can't purchase one there. It is sold in Europe and US only.

Posted by: Art in Florida | May 26, 2011 at 07:45 PM
What kind? There are many foreign cars that are made in the USA. IE the Toyota Tacoma was being manufactured in the San Francisco Bay Area up until recently. That represents American jobs, American income, American spending power.
Posted by: TGB | May 26, 2011 at 07:46 PM
I think the DNC chairwoman needs to heed President Baby-Momma's 'count-the-calorie' plan. She got some wide hips. Think Baby-Momma and DNC idiot-chairwoman could both use some calorie reduction.

My 1996 Subaru Legacy (made in Lafayette, Indiana) is more American than the Chevy Cruze (imported from Korea), Buick Regal (imported from Germany, soon to be imported from Canada) and the Chevy Camaro (imported from Canada after the factory in Van Nuys, California was closed and all of its American employees were laid off).
It was also built and bought WITHOUT bail-out bucks.
Posted by: Joe E in the IE | May 26, 2011 at 08:18 PM
Dear uh ooh:
Flaunt your ignorance elsewhere. According to Florida motor vehicle records, the Wasserman Schultz household owns a 2010 Infiniti FX35, NOT a Toyota Venza, as you seem to think. The car license plate include her initials.
All vehicles are built at Nissan Motor Company's plant in Tochigi, Japan...according to wiki.

Another day another hypocrite from the left surfaces and shows their real colors!
Posted by: Donna | May 26, 2011 at 08:28 PM
Some might make the argument that some Japanese cars have more American made parts than the American cars. However, the bailout wasn't really for the American car manufacturers as it was for the labor unions. You'll be hard pressed to find those same unions in a Japanese auto plant in the US. The only one I know of was the first plant Toyota ever closed in CA. Still, going but what this loser in the DNC says, she is still a hypocrite, even by DNC standards.
Posted by: Just take notice | May 26, 2011 at 08:36 PM
Miles...It isnt stupid...if the chairwoman of the DNC ...is going to attempt to bash the GOP for wanting US automakers to fail. she should at least drive an AMERICAN car...but as usual, the left is " well its for everyone else not me"

They're all full of little slogans and slogans DON'T PAY the BILLS.....Its time for people to AWAKE and if the USA is important to you, VOTE every single one of the BULLSH-T artists out of DC... That's BOTH PARTIES. If all they do is finger point, you GIVE THEM THE FINGER.
