41 Obama White House aides owe the IRS $831,000 in back taxes -- and they're not alone

Democrat president Barack Obama addresses his staff in the Oval Office-file

Over the years a lot of suspicion has built up across the country about Washington and its population of opportunistic transients coming to see themselves as a special kind of person, somehow above average working Americans who don't labor down in that monument-strewn former swamp.

Well, finally, an end to all those undocumented doubts. Thanks to some diligent digging by the Washington Post, those suspicions can at last be put to rest.

They're correct. Accurate. Dead-on. Laser-guided. On target. Bingo-bango. As clear as it's always seemed to those Americans who don't feel special entitlements and do meet their government obligations.

We now know that federal employees across the nation owe fully $1 billion in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

As in, 1,000 times one million dollars. All this political jabber about giving middle-class ...

... Americans a tax cut. Thousands of feds have been giving themselves one all along -- unofficially. And these tax scofflaws include more than three dozen folks who work for the president with that newly decorated Oval Office.

The Post's T.W. Farnum did some research and found that out of the total sum, just 638 workers on Capitol Hill owe the IRS $9.3 million in back taxes. As in, overdue. The IRS gets stiffed by the legislative body that controls its budget. How Washington works.

Now, back taxes have been a problem for the Obama-Biden administration. You may recall early on that Tom Daschle was the president's top pick to run the Health and Human Services Department. But it turned out the former Democratic senator, who was un-elected from South Dakota in 2004, owed something like $120,000 to the IRS for things from his subsequent benefactor that he just forgot to pay taxes on. You know how that is. $120G's here or there. So he dropped out.

And then we learned this guy Timothy Geithner owed something like $42,000 in back taxes and penalties to the IRS, which is one of the agencies that he'd be in charge of as secretary of the Treasury. The fine fellow who's supposed to know about handling everyone else's money. In the end this was excused by Washington's bipartisan CYA culture as one of those inadvertent accidental oversights that somehow never seem to happen on the side of paying too much taxes.

And under Geithner's expert guidance the U.S. economy has been, well, wow! Just look at it.

Privacy laws prevent release of individual tax delinquents' names. But we do know that as of the end of 2009, 41 people inside Obama's very own White House owe the government they're allegedly running a total of $831,055 in back taxes. That would cover a lot of special chocolate desserts in the White House Mess.

In the House of Representatives, 421 people owe a total $6,524,892. In the Senate, 217 owe $2,774,836. In the IRS' parent department, Treasury, 1,204 owe $7,670,814. At the Labor Department, where Secretary Hilda Solis' husband had some back-tax problems before her confirmation, 463 owe $7,481,463. Eighty-one workers for the Federal Reserve System's board of governors owe $1,076,733.

Over at the Justice Department, which is so busy enforcing other laws and suing Arizona, 1,971 employees still owe $14,350,152 in overdue taxes.

Then, we come to the Department of Homeland Security, which is run by Janet Napolitano, the former governor of Arizona who preferred to call terrorist acts "man-caused disasters." Homeland Security is keeping all of us safe by ensuring that a brave Dutch tourist is aboard every inbound international flight to thwart any would-be bomber with explosives in his underpants.

Within that department, there reside 4,856 people who owe the tax agency a whopping total of $37,012,174.

And they're checking our pockets for metal and coins?

i'm sure they all just forgot :) They have our best interests at heart i'm sure! I mean, they work for the government, so they are probably responsible and intelligent people.

come on you all, why is it out of the sudden all about the democrats. Republicans are also part of the tax evading gang. Conservatives are not any better than democrats, they also pocket our money. Do not only blame democrats or Obama, THEY ALL DO IT.

Well its not suppriseing but who is going to nagg them to pay?If it were any of us working class there would be letters phone calls lawyers ,more letters and calls then a visit from the local IRS book keeper with a demand for payment. If the plan for payment is not met, well then they would atttach our wadges.Do we supose this is part of our deficet problem.Instead of reaising our taxes, get them to pay theirs. They make enough to probably pay it off in one week.Iused to work a collections department I will volenteer to make some calls just as I was expected to make them to "Joe citizen". Pay up or go to jail.Alas I am sure they wouldn't have to worrie about looseing their drivers license for non payment..They dont drive any way they are choffered around town and a jail term would mosst likely be at the nearest Hiatt House or Embacy Suites. So what is there to be done about it..We elect them, pay their salariesso thet can vote themselves bigger saleries and raise our taxes to makeup for what they dont pay.Outlaw our suv's so there is enough gas to cover their Jet vacations and choffered (business ?? )trips..While we struggel to pay for day care they hire nannies and body guards and perhaps the money they should have used to pay their taxes with is used for those saleries..
Obviously this is all just supposition except for the reported information preceeding that "offical government employees have not paid their taxes as all americans are ,by law, expected to do.Makes ya wonder.

These people are employed by the government, they must lawfully pay income tax.

While I think this behavior is outrageous (not surprising, but still outrageous) this is not a Democrat or Republican issue. This is political BS at its finest. So, please stop with the Obama and co. bashing. This is just a symptom of the American Government.

Ironically, that is nearly the same amount as…

"Feds Spent $800,000 of Economic Stimulus on African Genital-Washing Program" (, 9-13-10)

"The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex."

Instead of having them pay their back taxes, let's just have them go to Africa to wash… well, you get the idea.

It happens in front of our faces, but we have become so lackadazicle, it's no wonder. The Whitehouse puppets...all of them are most likely doing as instructed by the Elite. And what are any of us doing ?

Anyone who is so gullible as to just blame the Bush administration for all these problems deserves to be "taken to the cleaners" by the Obama administration. I'm from Chicago and now see Chicago politics moved to the White House. Obama, all his czarist cronies in the White House, and those other friends he left behind in Chicago - Blagojevich, Reszko, Ayers, etal. - whom he claims he doesn't know, just parties and fund-raises with! (By the way, why would any real American citizen name his assistants "czars"?) I suspect that the Democratic party has seen the writing on the wall, has secretly recruited Mayor Daley to run for the President's office, and still wants to put Rahm Emanuel in the Mayor's office.

You will not find a more dedicated group of public servants than all these
loyal democrats who for the most part put in 100 hour weeks to help our
valiant president clean up the swamp inherited from Bush. Most of these tax
amounts are probably manufactured errors by some republican IRS hacks
working for the republican's dirty tricks dept.Just another witch hunt like
the persecution of such honourable and selfless public figures as Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel.

Wow, are you stupid or just outright ignorant and out of touch with reality? Like Barack, your ignorance and stupidity is definately not an act. Typical liberal idiot............I bet you've never paid a tax in your life or held a real job either..............And working for a bunch of union/AFL-CIO cum guzzling terrorists obsessed with keeping their tongue's up Barack's vagina doesn't count either........

The raw numbers here definitely paint our federal employees in a bad light. But Mr. Malcolm, shouldn't you provide us with some context for comparison? Has anybody taken a representative slice of people from the rest of the country in comparable income brackets and calculated what they owe the IRS in back taxes? Isn't it possible that federal employees are actually better than the average slice of American workers? (I'm not saying they are, just that it is possible.)

Reporting numbers of this sort without any basis for comparison leads to people calcifying their previous beliefs.

veru irritating and despicable. Who's going to come after these losers?

The American clueless voters elect criminals into office, what else should they expect. Both major parties have been controlled by the Rothschild Banking Mafia who hijacked our government after they murdered JFK.

I think the American people are too ignorant to ever figure out what is happening within our government because all major media is also controlled by the same criminals. The cybersecurity bill will destroy our only source of true facts which is the internet. The ignorant people will know nothing about it until it is too late to stop it. Ignorant American voters elected a racist communist illegal alien as president because our media covered up facts and did not even look into why Barry Soetoro was hiding all documentation concerning his entire life. He posted a Photoshop fake birth certification which can be obtained by people not born in Hawaii. Barry still refuses to release the Hawaiian long form birth certificate because none exists, he was born in Kenya.

It is hopeless. The only way to save the country is to give a intelligence and current events test before being allowed to vote. Most voters have no clue what is even happening, we are the laughing stock of the entire world as everywhere else they are aware Soetoro was born in Kenya, especially in Kenya.

Is this a bad joke?

What is the IRS waiting for? They have more power than any other organization to collect funds even if it means seizing their bank accounts or properties and or vehicles or their good ole wages.

Does this put into question to anyone the validity of our tax laws? Forget about the slimy nature of today's politicians, that's a given. Are they worried about their tax status as they put their lives in total public view?? Answer...NO. What do THEY know that WE don't? DON'T FORGET, folks... Washington DC Beltway politics is largely made up of attorneys today, and attorneys are best at what?? The knowledge and manipulation of facts... and strategy. If they thought they could end up behind bars for tax issues, would they even THINK of becoming public figures? That would be absolutely crazy, right?
Think about it... what insider knowledge do these people have, and how are they manipulating it? Then, think of the stress, ulcers, high blood pressure, divorce, and sleepless panic the average person in REAL America suffers to be in "compliance" with April 15th... I think we are seeing a very revealing piece of a larger puzzle with this tax compliance situation in DC.

Even Ghandi said that giving taxes to a corrupt government makes the taxpayer corrupt by cooperating and endorsing the system. Perhaps we need to consider a national tax STRIKE and demand a sea change in ALL taxation. If you haven't done so already, please watch

America / Freedom to Fascism,

a documentary by Aaron Russo, and then think seriously what wool is being pulled over our eyes. I think it's time we wake up to the insider information we've not been privy to. I think we have a Ghandi moment on our hands...

these pieces of garbage are no better than the last pieces of garbage in power, vote them all out, both sides...they all eat from the same bowl and they all deserve whatever they get, AMEN....

Yes, this is a bipartisan corruption issue, but there's a reason Democrats are rightfully getting more demonized for this:

Philosophically, Democrats are all about the virtues of the rich paying their taxes to support the little guy. They legislate this on everyone else, yet they don't do it themselves. It's the hypocrisy. It's harder to get angry at republicans who do it, when philosophically they're saying "nobody should be paying high taxes!"

It would be the same as if you found a very hawkish, pro-military guy, and a very anti-war hippy guy and discovered they were both draft dodgers. Yes, while dodging the draft is wrong and illegal, it's more disgusting that the hawkish guy did it because of his hypocrisy. Same principle with the democrat tax-dodgers that force it upon everyone else.

The IRS audited me for 4 months. I was not overly concerned because I had an accountant do my taxes. Boy, have I learned a lesson. My auditor appeared to be new and interpreted the IRS code differently than my accountants and I was given a Bill and lein of $91,000.00. Next they demanded payment, Threatened me to accept as given or they would make my life a living hell and they have. They cost me my job, my house, all my savings, all the monies I could borrow from family and friends. Now, they want another $100,000.00. To top it all off, I disagree with the findings and have yet to have my day in court. I called the tax payer advocacy - what a joke - they investigated me because they said I had not been nice to the IRS and made some feel uncomfortable. I guess since our gov't has taken everything else now they are taking my freedom to be upset. P.S. my income over the last 20 years is between $45,000 - $75,000.

Will these scoff-laws be permitted to use the Rangel/Gaithner Rule - and NOT have to pay interest like the rest of us?

I have seen where people working for a private company have been there so long they get to where they think they can do anything they want. That is even more true in government. Congressmen are the worst being responsible for so much money really goes to their head. Vote out all career politicians.
