Joe Biden update: Visits Grand Ole Opry, but it's closed

Democrat Joe Biden breaks into a chorus of Ole Man River during a Senate hearing

Vice President Joe "Irish Eyes Are Smiling" Biden visited the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville today.

"I'm not gonna sing," he promised.

That's because the country music mecca is closed, still recovering after 46 inches of water visited two months ago. And anyway on Friday America's favorite Amtrak rider would have been drowned out by the sounds of power tools repairing the flood damage.

Of course, Biden was not in Nashville to visit the shrine of sad songs or create new jobs. He was killing some time before another Democratic fundraiser speech.

Gaylord Entertainment officials hope to re-open the 4,370 seats in the 36-year-old facility on Oct. 1 and celebrate the musical institution's 85th anniversary the same month.

Every president since Richard Nixon has attended an opry performance except one -- Biden's boss. After both Obama and his wife recommended that American families vacation on and help the stricken gulf coast, the Obamas flew off to a family holiday on the coast of Maine.

Very cleverly worded Andrew. Zings disguised as zings. Love it.

(AM responds: I don't know what you are talking about.)

I miss Biden's usual photo, the one where he looks like he just stepped in dog droppings coming in behind Obama.Never has a US VP failed so miserably to appear relevant. Cant wait to see the dems loose his former senate seat.

(AM responds: We'll have to use your favorite photo again soon.)

F like in ''fou du roi''or that big effing deal he became so famous for.Biden is
not stupid enough to start a fire but not smart enough to put it out. This is the
most charitable thing i can say about this suppository of big labour.

No ideological balance in Top of the Ticket blogging - bunch of right-wing press releases (such as the Pat Roberts statement). If there isn't balance by Labor Day, I'm canceling my longtime subscription.

(AM responds: Well, perhaps as a longtime reader you've noticed that we publish together the remarks of BOTH party spokesmen at 3 A.M. Pacific every Saturday. That seems like balance over here. So if you don't choose to read one, we can't stop you. Also, hope you're not paying anyone for this longtime subscription because we don't actually sell them. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.)
