In her own words: Gov. Jan Brewer on Mexico joining lawsuit against Arizona's illegal immigrant law

Mexico US Border Fence

Full text of Gov. Jan Brewer statement on Mexico, as provided by her office

I am very disappointed that the national government of our neighbors and friends to the south has chosen to file a brief in federal court that distorts the truth about Arizona and the United States.

Despite false assertions and factual inaccuracies expressed by the country of Mexico in their recent brief filed in U.S. federal court, Arizona’s immigration enforcement laws are both reasonable and....

...constitutional. They mirror what has been federal law in the United States for many decades, and they have built-in and clear protections for civil rights.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer and Mexico president Felipe Calderon

The United States was formed as a nation of laws, and not of men. Arizonans are some of the most hospitable and generous people in the world, and we welcome visitors to share our incomparable natural beauty.

Our cultures and our trade are intertwined, and so must be our respect for the rule of law.

We refuse to accept that the United States government is unable to protect its citizens against a relentless and daily barrage of narco-terrorist drug and human smugglers. We will enforce, respect, and defend the laws of our land, including our laws that prosecute discrimination. We have taken additional steps to update training for our officers to legally enforce our new laws and to specifically prevent illegal racial profiling.

I will continue to fight tirelessly to protect the citizens of Arizona, and to defend Arizonans in federal court.  I believe that Arizona will ultimately prevail and that our laws will be found constitutional.    ####

Obama just wants to give illegals amnesty so they can vote for him in 2012. Why can't they immigrate legally like we did. Obama is spinning this into racial profiling for his own personal power goals. The bill says NOTHING about racial profiling except that it makes it clear that it is illegal.

When is the corrupt members of the US government, Mexican administration, stop interfering with "THE PEOPLE'S RULE OF LAW of this nation? How can OUR government get involved in the state of Arizona's laws and Nebraska. One thing for sure Obama and his Liberal-Communist Czars are heading towards an all out war, on American soil. taxpayers have been supporting foreign nationals and "Anchor Babies" for years. Hundreds of billions of dollars from the federal and state treasuries is underwriting people who have--NO RIGHT--to be here. Enough is Enough! Learn more at NumbersUSA. WE ARE GOING TO LOSE OUR COUNTRY IF WE DON'T THROW OUT ALL PRO-AMNESTY INCUMBENTS, STARTING WITH SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV) IN NOVEMBER?

WARNING TO ALL AMERICANS AND LEGAL RESIDENTS: Yesterday, several Senators led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) learned of a possible plan by the White House to provide an Amnesty to the nation's estimated 11-18 million illegal aliens through an executive order. The move would take immigration enforcement out of the hands of Congress and place it in the hands of the Executive Branch.call your Members of Congress at (202) 224-3121 to express your outrage at Pres. Obama's plan to provide Amnesty through Executive Order.

This nonsense is playing directly into LaRaza, MALDEF, MECCHA and other traitorous organizations that want to retake the southwest back from the US by hook or by crook. That our Federal government is so stupid that would actually consider allowing such usurping of states rights and US independence puts these so called officials in line for impeachment proceedings. The majority of US citizens will not tolerate such naked treason by their politicians.

Brittanicus?? are you from the UK?? or just a wannabe?... well i just would like to remind you that "your country" it's more part of Mexico's country that yours (in case you are from the USA and not from UK) and that indeed, Arizona it's just another piece of land that eventualy and whether you like it or not, will return to its authentic people. Have you ever thought how so many benefits you actually get for those " aliens" living there with no right? you should.. they prepare your food you eat in Mc Donalds, they deliver your pizza, newspaper, etc.. I really would love that they could live without you people, so you might realise how's the one getting the bigest benefit on it.

And yeah, about you MariaElena.. im going to try to explain this in an easy and simple way cause you seems to be retard: they can not immigrate in a legal way as you hun cause they are the poorest people of the country. They didn't get the chance to go to schools, have a healthy childhood, sqave money in banks accounts, etc.. they would never ever be elegible for an international exchange or scholarship in universities. You got what i mean??? They can not afford to even get a tourist visa and all what they just want is to give a better life to their kids. Even if they risk their own lives in the trial. All what that people do it's for nothing else but love.. to their families. For desperation to feed them or getting medicaments for their sickness. Is that too hard to understand?? It's sad but humans are fighting same humans. If you just would know that that's not necesary at all cause anyway all of us are heading to the same place... shame on you, heartless puppets.

Oh boy, what fools in Mexico thought they have the right to intervene in an American court case, and argue against the democratic will of the American people?

This could well destroy any relationship between the American and Mexican people for years to come, and lead to a national boycott of Mexico.

Given that according to Amnesty International, Mexico has one of the world's worst records when it comes to their treatment of illegal immigrants, Mexico's complaining about our laws is farsical, at best.

Oh boy, this outrageous action by Mexico is going to cause a firestorm.

Layla seems to have an inflated sense of her own importance.

I just want to publicly thank Layla for posting what was possibly the most amusing comment I've read in a while. likwidshoe got it right. She's got quite an inflated sense of her own importance. But, hell, it was good for a chuckle.

She is a venomous racist who poisons everything she touches. Brewer is unfit to hold any public office.

Layla, sweetheart, what part of "illegal" are you having trouble with?

"All what that people do it's for nothing else but love.. "

That's all, huh? Money doesn't enter into it all in your embarassingly ignorant fairy tale. Mexico has low unemployment and ,contrary to the lefty libs' drumbeat of abject poverty, a comparatively high standard of living...ranking 13th in the world and above most of Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, China, Sudan, most of the African continent. It is not a Third World country, which would explain why so many illegal aliens from our southern neighbor have the means to pay a "coyote" to escort them illegally into this country. And why, Layla, does Mexico so stringently and harshly deal with its own illegal immigration problem from Central Americans? Golly, aren't they just seeking their rightful place in Mexico? Do you know anything about Mexican history and its own history of occupation and oppression? Somehow, I don't think you are going to exert yourself to educate yourself, given your wild manipulations of reality and facts. Extricate yourself from the same ignorance you attribute to illegals and educate yourself...then you won't need to embarass yourself by calling others "retard" when their viewpoint challenges yours.

Layla,

Are you really saying that "aliens" are the only ones that work at fast food restaurants? Is that from your experience is it just a gut feeling you have? Maybe you it is from those ingrained assumptions and stereotypes you have.

I am not one to harp on grammar and spelling but since you made the comment about keeping it simple because somebody seemed to be a retard I am going to have to ask you to reread your post.

Layla, turn 180 degrees and you just might hit the mark.

Mexico is suing Arizona because they are afraid they will lose all the money being sent to them from their "citizens".

We could really help Mexico by returning ALL their "citizens" so they could force their government to create a country that works.

Hillary announces a federal lawsuit against Arizona.. to the Ecuadoran press?? Now Mexico joins the suit against AZ? The obama administration clearly prefers its international identity to American unity. Reprehensible and disgraceful.

Freaking unbelievable! It's official now, we have 2 idiots for presidents. Thank God for Jan Brewer - she is AWESOME!!!

Layla, all we have to do is to put obese welfare recipients to work doing the jobs that obese Mexicans currently do--problem solved! I think we will survive...in the meantime, why don't Mexicans fix their own country instead of trying to create a cesspool here? We are tired of your whining--this country is no more the home of the "authentic" people than it is of any other particular group. How bout we go "back to Europe" if you go back to Siberia? Makes about as much sense as any thing else you said.

Why don't we just enact and enforce Mexico's immigration law. Seems fair and reasonable. It is extremely restrictive. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Layla-- If they are so poor, uneducated and sick, maybe we don't want them here under any circumstances.

Here's the bottom line. The entire world could be free to immigrate to the U.S. without cost or limitation, but it would stretch our resources so badly that we would cease to remain a desirable nation in which to live.

Therefore, we need to be selective in who we allow to come here. Who gets to decide who can come and who cannot? Dare I say the citizens of America who will be directly impacted by future immigrants? The citizens, the People, hold the power in a Republic and they could decide to shut off immigration entirely if they wanted to do so. They remain open to immigration, but within certain guidelines to as to protect and preserve their homeland in more ways than I can count (employment levels, tax rates, welfare rolls, health care costs, housing availability, classroom size, etc).

So what are the guidelines? In a nutshell, we want decent, productive, educated, healthy, independent, hard-working, law-abiding, wealthy, family-minded people to come and contribute to our society as well as reap rewards from it. Pick any two or three qualities above and we want those kinds of people to come here! We'll even encourage them to bring their family members too! But if a person doesn't meet any of the above traits then we do not want them here. Plain and simple. Life isn't fair.

Those who don't qualify for U.S. immigration should remain in their own country and work on improving their personal lives, communities, cities, regions, and governments.

I am so glad that someone is taking the stand and doing something about the illegal immigrants.

Layla - get a clue!! Take off your rose colored glasses and take a look at what is coming over our boarders. If you truly believe it is as you say you are part of the problem.

This is a guaranteed loser for the current administration. Two corrupt governments joining hands to oppose the will of the American people.

Layla,

Just a quick pointer on actual history - Arizona was part of Mexican territory for all of 42 years before becoming a US territory in 1863.

US territory: 147 years
Mexican territoy: 42 years

Brewer is correct, the Obama Administration is wrong, and Mexico is beyond corrupt and hypocritical.

The AZ law is just federal law with safeguards against profiling. There wouldn't be a need for it if the federal government wasn't failing as it has for decades in it's primary purpose, to keep it's citizens SAFE.

This isn't about compassion, this is about having boundaries, which any country not only allowed to have, but SHOULD have. The citizenry should decide what it's immigration policy is. But the truth is, the illegal aliens have been creating it, because we refuse to enforce the laws that are ALREADY ON THE BOOKS. They should not be deciding the numbers of people allowed in, what their qualifications are to immigrate and how much we spend in services to support them. The American people should decide.

But the administration is going to fight this so that it can ensure an influx in potential Democrat voters. The Mexican government, which btw has some of the most draconian immigration policies that exist out there, just wants our money, period. Try going to that country illegally and you will end up doing very bad jail time. But for some reason, they demand that we take their people on an illegal basis?

Yes, because they're so terminally corrupt, they want to ship us their felons and their poorest of the poor, so that we support them, and then they send back cash to their relatives. Which effectively makes us the bill payers for their welfare state. Instead of doing their jobs as a country and government officials, creating business and industry adn growing their own nation to be successful, they don't want to bother. We can do that for them. They'll just take the checks, thanks.

I'm glad that Arizona pressed this, this should have happened years ago.

We are a nation of immigrats, but uncontrolled immigration can break our bank, just as surely as the Wall Street guys can. They are also breaking our laws in the south in an alarming rate. Don't talk to me about their contribution. You contribute nothing when you're in jail for committing crimes here, for stealing the identity of innocent citizens, and when a number of us end up dead/assaulted each year from tangling with drug lords and human smugglers.

It's bad, it's wrong and it needs to stop. I don't care what country you are from, if you come here legally, I welcome you with open arms. I'll help you with advice, I'll bake you a pie. But you'd better want to make it work, get with the program, learn the language, be honest and a good neighbor like my ancestors were. Then I'll support you all of the way to the finish line and clap like a parent when you succeed. I'll get a tear in my eye when you take your oath. And I'll consider you a citizen, a neighbor, a friend, an equal in all ways.

But if you come here breaking our laws, spitting in the face of our good will, and being a parasite to the system? Then they can stick you on a bus and just ship you back home. Don't give me a sob story, we all have one. Don't tell me that you had no other choice, there are always ethical choices.

And all of those who support them over and above your fellow citizens? We see the agenda, we're not stupid, and your character assasinations are not working anymore.

The whole basis for immigration is assimilation. This means that they should know our history and laws, learn the language and cut ties with their former country. This is not going to happen if we pass "across the board" amnesty. If you have ever seen an immigration protest, you will see all the Mexican flags flying high and a true disdain for Americans. Is this what our country needs?

Layla:

"...returned to its authentic people......." She must mean the Aztecs because it sure as hell ain't the Mexicans or Spanish...they just came in and butchered the indigenous. What a moron

What right does Mexico have in interfering in OUR LAWS. Does anyone give a damn about our national sovereignty anymore. I'm so sick and tired of Mexico interfering in our immigration process. If anything this is just stupid on Mexico's part because by joining the lawsuit Mexico's own immigration laws can be brought out in open court for all to see. Try breaking Mexico's immigration law and see how long you stay of the Mexican prison system.

CMH

Layla, Arizona and the Southwest are the property of the United States and it's people. Mexico cannot even keep a handle on it's own corruption. As the world can see, the drugs, human smuggling, weapons, and other nasties overflow from Mexico's border like filthy bathwater. We want to plug the holes, and let you fester in your own lands. We don't want you here, and just because our current crop of politicians want to buy votes by amnesty, and open boarders, doesn't reflect what the American people want. Also, Mexico is not getting that land back. What is happening is political posturing and vote buying by elected officials. The southwest will never be Mexican territory. It is ours, and we still remember the Alamo.

LAYLA: I guess you mean that the Southwest will return to Spain, right? Because of all of the owners of the Southwest, the one which held the property for the shortest period of time was Mexico. Or don't they teach this at LaRaza? Spain held it for 300 years, USA 160 years, Mexico 38 years. Tell me again about the "rightful owners of this land?"

Governor Brewer, why do you hate Hispanics so much?

Obama is the enemy within, that Cicero warns about. Why is this man not being charged with TREASON?

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague." ~Marcus Tullius Cicero

Layla...has the IQ of an eraser.

Well, it's telling that the main post against the law argues that Arizona belongs to Mexico. Such tripe! Who is the racist ones here, the ones who say "follow the law" or the ones who say "they don't have to follow the law because this piece of land belongs to the 'authentic people'"? How are we supposed to take that seriously?

Layla. . . illegal is illegal, so stop with the sob sister spin.
Oh, and Mexico? South of the border= yours; North of the border= not yours.Mind your own affairs and take care of your disenfranchised poor

Layla,
Are you so uneducated that you simply do not know the history of North America, or are you so racist that it wouldn't make any difference anyway. You darling speak Spanish for one simple reason, your ancestors came from Spain. Unless you are a direct decendent of the Olmecs, you are just like all the Europeans who immigrated to the shores of this continent. And the history of your Spanish ancestors is as brutal, if not more, than that of the Eurpoeans who settled in the lands north of you. Do go back to the third grade one more time, and this time do try to learn something besides your obviously deranged view of history.

Some people will never get it. If a serial killer is serving me at McDonald's, it doesn't mean it is OK because he is doing me a service. If he is there illegally, he is there illegally, period. The "fight" is not about not wanting to help people, it is about having a secure border. If a Mexican can cross unimpeded, so can a terrorist with a WMD. The fact that it "...is the poorest of the poor..", is not the problem of the United States, it is the problem of Mexico. When Mexico fixes it's own problem, their people will have no reason to cross over illegally anyway.

Layla, illegals in Mexico get thrown in jail, raped, beat up, etc. Can you please go back there?

@Layla:
I'm snickering at your "authentic people" comment. If you go down that road, you gotta go all the way, dear. Los Mexicanos aren't really so "authentic" now are they?

Yet another road you only travel halfway on is arguing that everyone that is "deprived" or "poor" should be able to walk into the US and be a (de facto or de jure) citizen. Me say that no be how nation-states work, Kemosabe. Me say you need think heap more on that.

Brava for the use of "medicaments" however. Generally we use the terms "Band-Aid" or "aspirin" but to each his own.

RE: LAYLA

This land is your land period, what part of the law don't you understand? Mexico 1% of the wealthy should share the benefits with its citizens. Bur as always they wont and never have. Dont blame us for the slavery your country put their people thru. Get a life and go back to the third world nation of Mexico and leave us alone.

TO LAYLA;
By "will return to its authentic people" you mean the original Indians who lived here centuries before the Spanish invaders came are going to reclaim Arizona? Good luck with that. As can easily be seen, the American people, black, white and everyone in between who obey the law want this country to protect the borders.

Funny that Mexico, which is a lawless nation, is joining suit against constitutional laws in the Unites States. If illegals don't like our laws why don't they move back to their lawless nations.

Nobody addresses the OTMs coming across the border. My stats are now three years old, but the number of OTM apprehended was over 100,000. Now, since the apprehension rate is about 1 in 10, think how many came in that were not apprehended. They were from Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Iran, etc. Do they get amnesty too?

Anti-SB1070 seem to have A lot of resources and funding. Hope Arizona can afford all the lawsuits. I'd hate to be an arizonian tax paying resident.

Layla,

If the people of Mexico would try to change their own country instead of sneaking across our border and trying to change ours then they would get a lot more respect. The US is not responsible for the problems in Mexico, it is the responsibility of the Mexican citizens to take care of their own mess.

What would Americans have to do if there weren't Illegal Aliens doing the jobs? WORK

Just think . . . I f Mexico actually enforced the law on their side of our border. . . hmmmmmm.
And IF we treated illegal mexicans like they do to the immigrants crossing into Mexico from the south. hmmmmmm.

I wonder why the UN is not worried about what Mexico does to people Illegally crossing their southern border. RAPE of the women and children, Jail, Beating the crap out of them. Hey UN ~ WTF!! I guess these "Human Rights Violations" are alright.

Here's a couple of suggestions for Layla and those who share her view:

Please leave your door unlocked all day and allow strangers to enter your home and help themselves to your stuff. Let them eat your food without your permission while you are out at work. Let them help themselves to your clothing, electronics, or other personal property while you and your family are dining out. Let them sleep in your bed, use your bathroom, and take or use anything they like in your home all without your permission.

It's obvious that those who support the free entry of illegal immigrants into our nation have zero respect or expectations of personal property, the concept of ownership, or property rights. Hence, they should be perfectly fine with letting anyone enter their home and help themselves to anything that they've worked hard to procure for themselves and their families.

Or as an alternative suggestion, we can simply annex Mexico, toss out their government and military leaders, institute our own that is at least slightly less corrupt, and take matters into our own hands since we're having to pay for them anyway. It's obvious that Mexico is incapable of running its own nation, and yet it seeks to tell us how to run ours?

Let's turn that around on them, spotlight their failure and ineptitude as a nation, and fix the problem at the source. Since they all supposedly want to be Americans anyway, let's just take their nation away from them.

shows that most american citizens don't deserve american citizenship as they are completely unfamiliar with the concept and purpose of the country and its constitution.

It is odd that there has been this big spike in right wing idiocy coming out of Arizona though. Texas has a higher background level of crazy and right now Arizona is like a supernova taking the attention. I wonder how long it will last.

Actually it isn't that strange. Arizona has been moving gradually towards the middle over the last twenty years. The population has doubled in that time and a big part of that spike wasn't old retirees who tended to be conservative, but a lot of younger families moving from blue states, etc. In 2008 McCain only received 53.4% of the vote here in Arizona, his sixth lowest vote total among the states he won. Now think about that, his home state was one of his least supportive states. Had McCain been from Texas, Florida, etc., he likely would have lost Arizona.

This state has a long history of very conservative, often racist politics and the supporters of those policies aren't happy that they are consistently losing ground to moderates and liberals (simply termed as liberals in their tirades). Because of how the state legislature is set up conservatives still have a major majority in both houses but, when Napolitano was governor, she vetoed a lot of their stupidity. In fact she set the record for vetoes in the history of the state. You take her away, bring in Brewer who is a wing-nut's wing-nut, and you see incredibly stupid legislation that was shut down by a reasonable governor make it out of the state house. At the same time you see an increase in non-conservative population as well as an increase in non-white population and the far white err, right is freaking out.

Jan Brewer is a patriot. Calderon is an impotent meddler who can be ignored. Obama is a progressive dope at best, an impeachable traitor at worst, who cannot and will not be ignored after November.

Mexico having anything to do with this law suite is disgusting. And, the fact that the Obama Administration has not objected to Mexico's brief is a clear indication that Obama favors Mexico over the people of the US.

Obama is the most divisive president in the history of this country. He now wants to grant amnesty to 15MM to 20MM illegal aliens by presidential proclamation, because he knows that he can't get a law granting amnesty passed. If he commits such a stupid act, there will be riots, cities will be burned, hundreds, if not thousands of people killed, and it will mark the end of Brack Obama's presidency.

I know that I am tired of paying more taxes to support illegal immigrants' court costs, welfare and government benefits that they take advantage of and steal from us.

What a sad story that Layla tells. I wonder how the millions of people that have become legal citizens despite being completely poor at the time they came over did it.

Hey Layla guess what, even if the US gave back Arizona, California and New Mexico, the Mexican people would still be trying to get in the US illegally. Why? Because the Mexican government is corrupt and your an idiot for backing them. If you like Mexico so much, then move your ass over there.
