Red flag for a sinking Obama: Americans now prefer Hillary Clinton

It is, of course, a really silly thing to even think about, given the clout of the Chicago Machine boys currently occupying the White House.

But, just say, the Real Great Talker continues his spiraling descent in the polls over the next 12-18 months; already the Democrat is barely tied with Any Republican in opinion polls looking toward 2012.

Even worse, a majority of Americans have already decided they don't want Obama to have a second term.

And just say under Obama's leadership and insistence on his unpopular healthcare bill over jobs, all the spending and exploding deficits, plus the certainty of new taxes to cover his costs, the Democrats in Congress get thoroughly thrashed by the GOP come November. Maybe they even lose control of both houses.

This week a new poll showed Americans now preferring the GOP on a generic congressional ballot. And despite eagerly optimistic recent administration economic claims, the unemployment rate is likely to hang high, and now comes a new ABC News Poll finding national consumer confidence actually waning, not building.

Do you think then maybe by a year from now some Democratic Party bigwigs and money people might be whispering to each other that this arrogant Illinois guy is pulling a Jimmy Carter, constructing a disastrous....

...single term that teed up 12 straight years of Republican White House rule?

Well, it turns out, there is another Democrat -- another former senator, in fact -- hanging around now free of political tussles with an enhanced resume burnished on the world stage, thanks to Obama himself.

And a new CNN/Opinion Research Poll has just revealed that even today Americans like that other Democrat more and dislike that other Democrat less than they do the incumbent Democratic president.

That other Democrat is, of course, Hillary Clinton, who fought and scratched her way mightily but unsuccessfully through those bitter, belligerent Democratic primaries and caucuses of 2008. The former first lady and current secretary of State professes no intra-mural interest in challenging her White House boss, as she must as long as she's an administration team member.

The published CNN article focused on an Obama matchup with Sarah Palin. But within the data were Favorable/Unfavorable ratings for numerous prominent politicians of both parties. Here are the surprising new poll numbers for Clinton:

61% now think favorably of the former senator and only 35% unfavorably, both numbers improved from the 56% and 40% she had during the Democratic National Convention in late August of 2008.

An early 2012 political button

It is, on one level, an impressive turnaround for the once polarizing political figure.

And on another level it's a comment on the polarity of the political climate presided over by someone who promised to bring people together and change Washington's harsh partisan tone, another postponed campaign vow like eliminating Guantanamo and "Don't Ask-Don't Tell."

By comparison, in the same CNN poll, 57% of Americans now think favorably of Obama, down from 78% just before his inauguration; and 41% now think unfavorably of him, more than twice his unfavorable rating of early 2009.

Clinton's numbers also beat all other both Democrats and Republicans in the new poll.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has 38-50 Favorable-Unfavorable; Sen. Harry Reid 28-35. The good news for Reid is that 20% of Americans have never heard of him; the bad news is Nevadans know him well and have him trailing any conceivable Republican candidate in this November's election.

Among Republican names, Mike Huckabee's favorable-unfavorable rating is 43-29; Mitt Romney 40-34; Newt Gingrich 38-38 (see his recent speech video here); and Sarah Palin 39-55, up from her other recent numbers. See Palin's recent speech video right here.

Loyal Ticket readers may remember this item of ours from last December when USA Today and Gallup found the two most admired females in America were Clinton and Palin -- and only 1% separated them.

Even more loyal Ticket readers will recall our item from nearly two years ago here revealing that the day after she surrendered to Obama upon losing the party primary race and said she heartily supported him, Clinton associates purchased a Web domain name: HRC2012.

Probably just an over-eager staffer, wouldn't you think?

This is one democrat that will not be voting for Obama in 2012. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I once heard a wise saying, so long it go. It went something like this. "If its too good to be true, it probably isn't."

I think the media picked its darling and then group think kicked in and this is what we got. A very popular candidate, (with the media).

Just because the people prefer Hillary over the communist party front-man posing as President doesn't mean they will vote for her. 2010 and 2012, and probably the next 20 years, belong to conservative candidates.

It would be almost impossible for a president to do a worse job and ruin America as much as Obama would like to do. I think that all except the die hard liberals who want us to be socialist country would vote for Attila the Hun before they would vote for Obama again. As bad as Hillary is, she is absolutely stellar compared to Obama.

You seem to have conveniently missed the CNN poll that shows a generic Democrat beating a generic Republican by four points. You also seem to consistently miss the even more woeful approval/disapproval ratings of Rep. Boehner and Sen. McConnell, but then being truthful doesn't fit your narrative, does it?

Also, it's a well known adage that the backup quarterback is the most popular guy on the team.
Don't cry too much when the Dem losses in November are substantially smaller than you're currently predicting and in 2012 when President Obama steamrolls whichever GOPer runs against him.

Hee hee! Yeah, her numbers are up, but wait until she opens her mouth...

Perhaps the democrats will need a sort of Lyndon Johnson episode with Obama and it may be seeen that Hillary could pursue an opportunity to replace him. The public will be wanting much of the Obama political agenda dissassembled as overreaching and that process will begin in 2010 and culminate with the Obamaremoval in 2012. Hillary has really accomplished nothing significant as Secretary of State and so we could see a reprise of identity politics and find out if race still trumps gender in 2012 among the affirmative action peddlers.

Hillarys record as Secretary of State is even worse than Condi Rice. Hillary has no accomplishments and is rarely mentioned in media or by Obama. The 2 biggest foriegn policy issues , Afghan and Iraq and Israel were taken away from her and given to more capable and experienced people in Richard Holbrooke and George Mitchell. Either one of them should have been Secretary of State instead.

She was better qualified than Nobama. He has no qualifications.
She would have won if Nobama were white. That's no reason for electing someone president of the USA. High hopes shattered by an illegal president.
I think Hillary may have done as much damage. Maybe not.

Dear Leader Obama has a rather vacuous personality also. Really not much to the guy. He is a one note Johnny. Talks well. Not much else.

You know things are off kilter when Hillary seems like a voice of reason in an "Alice in Wonderland" administration.

If I had known how really awful Obama would be - I knew he'd be bad but never imagined he'd be this bad - I'd have become a Democrat and voted for Hillary in the primary. Anyone but Obama in 2012.

I detest Obama and his Marxist agenda but I would never vote for Hillary Clinton. Not in a million years. Her policies would be just as bad as Obama's.
I plan to vote for a conservative Constitutionalist who will restore this Republic to it's greatness. Vote Republican in November and take our country back!

I could probably win in 2012. Lets not get too complacent though this Chicago style politics is no holds bared

This only goes to show how stupid the American coter has become. Shrillary is nothing more than a female version of Obama. Had she won the WH she would be doing the same thing. Do people forget she tried to ram through single payer healthcare in 1993? She is pro-illegal immigration and for strong union backing. She has been a toal disaster for American foreign policy under Obama and she did absolutely nothing for 8 years as a senator.

Wise up America.

I'm certainly no Hillary fan, either...but still, this is great! This has to be one STINGING rebuke for the dwindling number of die-hard Obamaniks. Their phony guy is quite flatly SINKING like the dud rock he is, and there's nothing they can do about it. This is really, really encouraging, in its own way.

Hope is not a plan. Hillary would have been a better pres than O.

Where is this guy going and why is the media going with him? Obama is no longer
the darling that he once was. However the MSM still gives him a pass, why? Do they really agree his actions? He is one step from being a total dictator, let me
restate this He is a dictator. America is no longer a democracy. Obama rules,
Obama dictates, Obama and his zars are ruining America. Watcha gonna do when they come for you? Ayn Rand was and is a genius, she saw all of this coming years ago and they tried to marginalize her then, but she was right. We have met the enemy and it am us.

Which Americans? Jewish/Americans perhaps, because Hillary has boasted to INCREASE Military assistance to $3 Billions yearly. She has sold her soul to Israel, and your article confirms it: you are campaigning for Israel/Hillary. There is no shame in this world anymore. This comment will not appear, I know it, but you, "moderator" go and tell your boss that all the country already knows that being pro-Israel you are anti-American. You indirectly are promoting al-Qaida's terror attacks to our US of America supporting Israel blindly.

Why - She is the Female version of him. They are of the same ILK - out to destroy the country. Americans need to really know these people and not give any of them a second chance.

Run Hillary, run.

He's a Jimmy Carter

If people are for certain against Obama, I don't see Hillary having much of a chance. It will be noted that their policies are almost identical - I really don't think people dislike Obama's personality, just some of his policy. That will hurt Hillary in the long run as well.

Gee! What a big surprise!

Palin 2012!

Nothing has changed since 2008:Hillary won all the big states in the primaries, but the superdelegates feared a backlash from Obama's supporters in the fall-and perhaps forever-if they didn't vote for him.

Viejo (at 12:26pm)...could it possibly be that YOU are ANTI-Israel, and very possibly anti-Jewish? It's a two-way street, you know.

Now people are wondering why O is not able to do the job??? Anyone who had half a brain, spent even a MINIMAL time researching his resume or even made a token effort to read his speeches would have known he did not have the background to do the job. Now you are crying about how bad he is??? You sheeple are morons. Like they say, you deserve the government you have, unfortunately that the rest of us have to live with your mistakes.

I would be willing to bet Hillary will be resigning late this summer and reforming her PAC.

This is the worst Regime on the face of the earth. Obama is so comfortable presiding over America's decline. Shut down NASA, science adviser Holdren saying we aren't going to be #1, Cloward Piven strategy making massive unsustainable debt.

I hate Obama, and progressives, liberals, socialists and democrats have earned my enmity for LIFE and I will bring this into my business and to my children. This is an all out assault on freedom, liberty and our constitutional republic and it WONT be forgotten.

Clinton wouldn't be any better. They both think alike.

This doesn't shock me in the least. The ONLY person that the Dems could get to beat Hillary Clinton for the nomination was someone that was Non-White, may not wanna hear that, but it's the truth. Obama was completely unprepared to be president (and that is being shown) and the Dems had no idea how corrupt & amateur his political methods are (and that too has been shown to be true), the Dems got exactly what they wanted...a candidate that was NOT Hillary.

I have no sympathy for the predicament the Dems have put themselves into. They are in a no-win situation. They railroaded their best and most loyal candidate (Hillary) to satisfy the egos of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. Their arrogance and selfishness gave us Obama.....and it's taken less than one year for the eyes of America to be opened (and scared) to the real Obama.

Hillary would be wise to tell em all to go the he11, and let em sink on their own in 2012. Just take a look at how Obama shuns her at every chance he gets....he makes foreign affairs issues on his own, and often doesn't even invite her to meetings with heads-of-state. Hillary has become the most "hidden" Secretary of State in our history.....and you can bet she ain't happy about it.

Obama would be a joke, if not for the fact that his actions and policies are so critically dangerous to our nation's economy, safety and sovereignty. God help us all.

I wonder about polls. Obama needs to be more of a working president and cut the speeches. Hillary? She was our senator and did a good job. I can't quite understand why voters care who is president. It's the lobbyists who run the country. Senators and congresman owe their political life to the lobbyists. The tea party appears to be a right-wing group that appears not to like anyone. I also detect a little racism among them. They want less government. They seem to thing we are heading towards socialism. I guess you could say FDR started driving that road with social security. I'd be glad to accept their social security checks.

Obama is a 1 term disaster. Had the media done its job this mess would have never even won. This is the worst president since Lincoln. Anyone who voted for this community activist should re-think everything. He is a total fraud. Change? for the worse if any at all...

At least Hillary would not be bowing to everyone; Japan, Saudis, Chinese, even the mayor of Tampa. Obama is psychotic with a narcissistic inferiority complex.

Many Tea Party members are Hillary Democrats. Now that the koolaid has worn off alot of people want their vote for Obama back. They now realize how foolish they were to waste a vote on him - they wish they had voted for Hillary and they may get their wish. As Obama falls down to 30 percent approval the Democrats may toss him aside rather than risk losing the White House. They may beg Hillary to run and she would win just like would have won in 2008 if it wasnt for the media, evil, the foreign powers behind Obama, and the radicals in the DNC who spit on her like Dona Brazile .

I have been a Dem for 40+yrs; I will not vote Dem again for a very long time. I am appalled at the devious, underhanded, lying thuggish methods the BHO crew uses; I abhor the progressive wing in power now as arrogant, uncompromising, and desperate! The fact that the majority of the voters repeatedly polled correctly showed we did NOT want the type of invasive overhaul of their HC bill, and they passed it anyway, shows me they are not for "we the people", but for "we, the progressives"! Nuts to them; they have lost me for a good long time. I am a TEA person, partier, and a retired school administrator from a big city district, so do not even try the "racist, wingnut, extremist, etc" labels on me, I've sent money, gone myself, etc, and I know better, you outright liars! Those Alinsky tactics aren't going to wqork so well to distract and detract now that people are onto your ways. Shameful displays of arrogance and power-mongering from the leftists.

Obama and his gang are too arrogant and narcissistic to step out of the way and let someone else take the wheel - especially Hilary...Nope, he will run again and probably win so long as the republicans nominate another neocon poser. We need someone who is going to address the actual causes of our current problems; a loose monetary system that enables too much government spending on over ambitious domestic programs and wars. Too bad Ron Paul is too old to be taken seriously as a candidate.

Shillary? Nah I'm sure americans are done with the democrat/socialist party for at least 12 to 16 years. Obozo the ruler has done more for the conservative movment than many who clame to be conservative, i.e. " Mc Lame.

Hillary is the TRUE American patriot and deserving leader of the Democratic party. The Democrats dissed her in favor of the egotistical, inexperienced goof we have now for POTUS. We needed her leadership and love of country. What a mess we're in now with Obama. Hope he doesn't dismantle everything good in our country before he gets out of office. I'm voting straight GOP from here on out -- at least until DNC corrupt leadership gets over itself. Shame!

By next year they may just find that birth certificate -it would be one way to remove Obama and make way for Hillary because Biden surely couldnt handle being President. I never thought Id see this type of headline until about 2011. By then I thought people would be really sick of Obama and realize how they were defrauded by a glitsy campaign of deceit engineered by David Axelfraud. CNN is wondering why they have lost viewers- heres your answer - stop pushing Obama down our throats- he is incompetent and Hillary was the better candidate by far !!!

Yeah great all we need now is Hillary. Sitting over in Europe doing everything in her power to jam the UN small arms treaty down our throats. A liberal attempt to ban firearms worldwide. This does not sound very American to me either.

Hillary is a fake, phony, and FRAUD. What experience did she EVER have for ANY position she has ever held?? She got everything by being Bill Clinton's poor cheated on wife. What a FARCE. Plus she is a congenital LIAR and a vicious politician who do anything and hurt anyone to get what she wants. But a lot of fools STILL can't see that. If they elect that evil woman then it will be even worse than having Obama, if that's possible. She endorses the EXACT same things he does and would push for the same policies. What would be different?? Healthcare?? Cap and Trade?? More and more reckless spending?? Don't count on it!!

I preferred Hillary ever since the beginning. She is better qualified. When I saw how Obama treated and lied about Hillary also by the democratic party. This is why after 4o yrs. as a democrat joined the Tea Party, as I know many other democrats I have met. Hillary would have never put us in this situation.

the way Obama and the democratic party lied and duped Hillary, after 40 yrs. as a democrat I joined the Tea Party as I know and met many of other democrats there. We relized Obama was playing us for fools..

I preferred Hillary Clinton from the very beginning, and the DNC had their own agenda. They created this OBAMA mess.

Why?! She is a proud Progressive and I've seen her say it. I used to like Hillary but after experiencing Progressivism with the Obama administration and on Capital Hill, Hillary is now on the bottom of my list.

I never thought I would see the day I would support H.C.
The day has come.
If this country survives this Obama maybe she will run against him in 2012. I will vote for her then.
Sad, Sad, Sad...

Hillary Rotten Clinton? Are you kidding? After the job our undocumented president has done on us (hope we make it until 2012), the GOP could run Jethro Bodine for president and win by a landslide. People would chose the guy with the six-grade education than ANY DEMOCRAT!
