Joe Biden update: Iraq one of Obama's 'great achievements'

Democrat Vice President Joe Biden with Larry King on CNN 2-10-10

Who knew?

Thank goodness, Vice President Joe Biden went on CNN to chat with Larry King Wednesday night. So many think things are not going so well for the Democrat administration, as The Ticket chronicled here.

Many Americans recall the ex-Sen. Biden's Democratic primary plans to give in to Iraq's fractious factions and carve the country into three territories. And even more probably recall Biden's boss' plan to halt the Iraq war years ago. As long as it got started anyway without the permission of the then state senator.

Plus, of course, the vehement opposition of the Nobel Prize winner to the 2007 American troop surge of you-know-who from Texas that Obama knew for certain was only going to worsen sectarian strife there. (See 2007 video here.)....

Well, of course, it didn't turn out that way, thanks in large measure to the brave service of hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops who served in that war-torn land and helped peace to break out despite the loud political acrimony back home over their role.

Now, the Obama-Biden pair that opposed the Iraq war and its tactics and predicted their failure is prepared to accept credit for its success.

It seems that Biden, who's from Delaware when he's in Delaware and Pennsylvania when in Pennsylvania, is certain now that Iraq will turn out to be one of the Obama-Biden administration's greatest achievements.

No, really.

Here's how Biden put it to Lar:

I am very optimistic about -- about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

I spent -- I've been there 17 times now. I go about every two months -- three months. I know every one of the major players in all the segments of that society. It's impressed me. I've been impressed how they have been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences.

Biden did not elaborate on what all the administration's other "great achievements" were so far.

No doubt, Iraqis too are very thankful for that 2008 U.S. election. (Full King transcript here.)

This is just the kind of spin that all politicians do, but which the public has come to abhor. They seem to think we are such a stupid public that we can't remember that President Obama vehemently opposed the surge, and said in the campaign that if he had been in Congress at the time, he would have opposed going into Iraq.

There are people who believe whatever they say is the truth or will come true; politicians like Biden and Obama fall into this category, but what is even more egregious; they know it is not the truth. Half a dozen of one and six of the other. The truth will go a long way towards regaining the trust of the public.

You've got to be kidding me. These two men were rooting for the other side there to score political points, with the deaths of our servicemen being a good thing for them. They disgust me. What a couple of total, unscrupulous, spineless, gutless hacks. Even more insane is they now accuse Republicans of playing politics with the war on terror, I mean Global Contingency Missions.

For a President who doesn't want to use the word victory, and only got elected due to an economic downturn (b/c really, who trusts him at all with national security?), it seems insane that he would take credit for one, especially when one of his campaign platforms was to root for Al Sadr, and thus the deaths of our soldiers and all for political points. I am incredulous that these two slimy career machine politicians would pull this, especially when they so ridiculed Pres Bush for it. I guess the only thing they didn't inherit from the last administration was success, though Obama made Bush's worst policies worse. Of all the yellow, gutless things to do. Oh well, I'll bet the one-armed teleprompter told them to do it.

Wow!! Only the LA times could write this article and not mention the One of the greatest Presidents USA has seen since Lincoln - President G.W. Bush. He deserves the credit for keeping this country safe by removing a threat ( Saddam) and for freeing 30 million people from a horrible dictator. But LAT is too liberal to see the truth if it slapped them in the face !

It must be nice that Biden is still drinking the cool aid. I mean, who are they kidding. The level of force agreement, and troop withddrawl dates were widely publicised at the end of the Bush admin, when they signed the treaty with the Iraq government. The Obama admin is getting desperate to log a success, but still are so arrogant as to try revisionism on current events (non historical events btw). This is just plain dishonest, and makes me want to puke all over again.

Thse guys is rilly good for mah sef-esteam, Ellie Mae. Hell, I cooda bin prezdet. Ida nevr sed nuttin' dat stoopid.

How did these people get elected? The BO admin has failed at everything and takes credit for any success of the former admin, even the ones he opposed and said would not work. Other nations around the world hate us more than ever and consider this admin to be arrogant. Didn't the POTUS just apologize to the terrorists for the US being arrogant throughout history. Maybe he was apologizing in advance for himself.

The only way you are going to get a job is if you go to work for ACORN because the "stimulus" all went to special interest groups. Virtually none of it went to infrastructure which is what would have created jobs that last for years.

Every time Biden opens his mouth, I just scratch my head in wonder. Is he really as stupid as he seems? And as someone who has lived in Pennsylvania for 30 plus years, and fairly near Scranton at that, I never knew he was from Pennsylvania until the began campaigning with Obama. What a total goof.

Ram it down Bush's throat? Biden is a pick pocket.. this is Bush's war,, he won it,, Obama and the Democrats now want to steal it.. God bless our brave troops.. God curse the thieves in the night that run our country.

Joe, Joe, Joe,

Am I in 2004 again? Were you against the surge before you were for it?

You and the Bamster are history. You will go down as the WORST presidency of the last 100 years, if not in the history of this country. An arrogant man-child and a bumbling fool...

now the Obama admin is taking credit for victory in Iraq. do they think we are as stupid as the mainstream media who laps this stuff up? unreal...

obama is following Bush's plan for withdrawal from Iraq to the letter. What kind of person would take credit for someone else's plan? What is wrong with Biden and obama? (Much, I know.)

My comment was not published? This is what I commented, or very, very similar to...

Yesterday, I wrote that Obama is the Great Confabulator. After reading the above, Biden is Vice Confabulotor.

They really don't think we pay attention do they?

You gotta be kidding me!

Is Joe Biden the administration's comedy relief? What kind of person does it take to tell a national audience an obvious lie, and smile? I find this the hood ornament of the present administration's attempt to drive over the will of the American people.

Thank you President Bush. Obama/Biden blame the Bush Administration for everything that happens so this success should go to the Bush Administration not only because it is truly their success, but because Obama and Biden have not done the work to get any credit! Shame on Mr. Two-faced Joe Biden. Like Pinocchio, his nose is growing by the day. Mr. Biden is again full of lies and deception. Shame!

are you kidding me. this bozo-in-chief could not achieve a bowel movement even with the help of exlax.

I think Biden has lost IT.....does he think we are deaf, dumb and blind...he did everything to put our soldiers at risk and never supported them...and his obnoxious self was hurtful to many Americans, especially parents/family of our soldiers...Obama said horrible things about Bush and the war and how we should have never been in this war and now they are trying to take credit for the Iraq freedom and the war....there is only one person who should take credit for any happiness the Iraq people are experiencing and that is "W"..He did so many things to help these people and he did it alone. Bless him and "yes" I do miss him.....

Accomplishments? Well, let's see... Passed health care reform, no wait.. ummmmm, closed Gitmo, errrr... pulled out of Iraq, no... clear and open governance, well.... Oh heck!

What do you expect from a compulsive liar? A quinticential phoney who lacks the real courage he son displays.

This is typical of the players in the Obama administration -- ignore comment on the foreign policy disasters they own and claim success for the ones they do not. The only people gullible enough to take this Biden comment at face value are the Hopey-Changers and others who don't just pay attention. It just goes to show, once again, that these Democrats really must view the electorate as morons.

This is hysterical, They are trying to take credit for a Success in Iraq, which happened before they took office, and they were against the strategy.

What lossers we have in Office!!

Biden is the KING!!!
...of DOLTS!
When this Administration "achieves"something
let me know!!
I'll be in my shop loading ammo!

A great achievement would be to focus on unemployment. An achievement would be to reduce taxes to stimulate the economy. Biden continues to exhibit his profound stupidity.

How many of the 90,000 troops that are coming home will muster out to only find themselves standing in the unemployment lines that Barry seems unable and uncapable of reducing?

This administration's lies are a thing to behold. They make the Bush Administration look better and better, but the LA Times will always side with Democrats and radical islam. Thats why they will never see a penny of my money again.

I've tried to think of something to say about this for awhile, but I'm still speechless. I guess when your every move have been a complete failure, the only thing left to is take credit for the Bush policies that you've been bashing for the past few years. What's next? Possibly taking credit for the 2 million jobs created in 2005, the year before the Democrats took control of congress and jobs began disappearing? Maybe their global warming stance causing the record snowfalls? The sky is the limit when you put your mind to it.

Iraq is one of the great triumphs of the BUSH administration. If Obama is able to triumph in Afghanistan I'll give him credit for that.

What. A. Tool.
The sad part is the Obama-sycophants will just nod their collective heads in agreement.

The hubris of this administration is beyond belief!

Biden makes me laugh. We are not leaving Iraq, and what ever we take out is being reallocated to Afghanistan and the expanding war in Pakistan.
His optimism is about as reliable as Obama's campaign promises and his willingness to uphold his oath of office...to protect and defend the Constitution.

After 30 years in the Senate, he is as much responsible for our current state of affairs as Bush, Clinton et al.

uhh, seriously? at what point do the villagers rise up with pitchforks and torches and give this administration a little "mob justice"? they're basically telling the American people that they're a bunch of nincompoops. if i had it my way, i'd have all of them swinging by their necks from the highest oak tree. then id go after the idiots who still believe the crap this bunch of fools spoon-feeds them and make sure they could no longer breed, then deport their asses to Cuba where they can live out their communist utopia.
i have had it with the bulls**t our government is pulling. we are/were? a free nation, now we're a police state. congratulations america, what a stellar job you've done.......................

Joe Biden is Barrys Billy Carter.

ALWAYS remember, Joe Biden is the plagiarist whose presidential aspirations were dashed in the not-so-distant past. Thus, it is not surprising that he and Obama would "plagiarize" Bush's successful policies.

What a buffoon! Biden is either a lying sack of manure, has a brain made of manure, is mentally deranged or thinks we'll buy this tripe, or all of the above. This idiot leaves me speechless.

The American voter is dumber than Joe gives them credit for.
Democrats are a disgrace.

Thanks, Andrew, for reporting Mr. Biden's thoughtful remarks on Larry King's cutting edge show. We should all feel better knowing that our Vice President knows all the major players in Iraq and we know that Mr. Biden is a major player here in this country. That certainly makes me rest easy . So please don't cavil and point out Mr. Obama's opposition to the troop surge and his call for quick withdrawal of troops while things were going badly in Iraq. That's only right wing pettiness, as I'm sure you know. Let's celebrate our president's achievements. Keep Hope and Change alive.

Do Obama and Biden think we are all fools? Do they really think we will give them credit for any success and blame Bush for everything that goes wrong? It is good to see that someone at the Los Angeles Times has figured out that Biden is not really the smartest Vice President ever ... as he claims.

You gotta be kidding me!

This guy keeps putting up one stupid statement after another. He's the only person that makes me feel good about Obama and not that good! Obiden is as incompetent as the President.

Is this indicative of:

a) Short memory
b) Delusion
c) "My IQ is higher than yours"
d) Ability only to blame, not credit, Bush
e) All of the above

Whoa man....
Are you kidding me?
This sounds like a setup for one of SNL Headline News "REALLY" segments.
These people are such hypocrites.
Everyday I hear something else that makes me want to puke.
"No Lobbiests in my administration"
"I will close Guantanamo"
"The Healthcare process will be live on C-Span"
"The Healthcare bill is 1900+ pages and costs 2.2 million per word"
"Lower Taxes for 95% of Americans"
"An end to all Earmarks"
"An era of fiscal responsibility"
"We will post all bills online five days before I sign them"
on and on......

How can anyone comment on something so stupid. It is beyond words...Biden is delusional.

This man is unstable. And they go after Palin's intelligence. Unbelievable. Pathological BS'er

Ah, contrare, Mr. V.P. You can blame that on George Bush like everything else. You can't have it both ways. Pres. Obama's greatest achievement so far was his pick for V.P. Without you, sir, we'd have nothing to laugh about while we go down in flames.

IS HE SERIOUS???
This administration is a bad joke.
Obama is not the punch line, but the rest of his nominees are!
This administration did NOTHING to end the war in Iraq, it was the efforts of one George W. Bush Jr and the GOP that enacted the surge. Without the surge we would've had another Vietnam. Yes Mr. B now that the Republican's cleared house the Dems (That even said by a reporter from CNN -surprise- ) can take credit for the victory in Iraq?? Yeah right, and on top of that they can really take credit for the mortgage mess that the Dems precursor Billory got us into this current defunct economy with the Fannie Mae Freddy Mac deals. You can absolutely take credit for that, but not Iraq....what a bunch of liars.

If Joe Biden had a brain he'd take it out and play with it.

It must be nice to take credit for Bush's achievements but be allowed to distance yourself completely from his failures.

The arrogant fraud-in-chief at his finest. Give us a break, Barry!

Wow - what a good thing Joe is our VP - he is soooo much smarter than Sarah Palin!!! What an embarassment.....

You have got to be kidding me!
