Tiger Woods loses not just par but Congress

Golfer Tiger Woods signing autographs at the Presidents Cup Golf Tournament in San Francisco Oct. 7, 2009
For several years, California Democrat Joe Baca has been introducing a bill to give the Congressional Gold Medal -- the highest civilian honor awarded by Congress -- to golfing star Tiger Woods. The citation: "In recognition of his service to the nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship, and in breaking barriers with grace and dignity by showing that golf is a sport for all people."

But today Baca, an avid golfer, told the Hill newspaper that he was withdrawing the bill. With Woods sort of radioactive at the moment and congressional approval ratings in the tank already, somehow it just didn't seem like a good idea.

“In light of the recent developments surrounding Tiger Woods and his family, I will not pursue legislation awarding him the Congressional Gold Medal this session," he said.

But next session...

All i know is that... most of us criticizing wood would do worse if we were to be in his position...

I think all of us here were in need of something like this , thanks for providing writing this post.

When will the dems in the house pass a resolution requiring Obama return his
undeserved Nobel peace prize ?

Wow, Tiger!!!!, I hope you rebound, What you do in your private life shouldn't be public.

I don't care what anyone says, Tiger Woods will never lose par. He definitely might lose congress though, but never par (he's the greatest golfer ever).

COME ON TIGER!!! U NEED TO REBOUND BIG TIME

Hello, I arrived at this website by accident when I was exploring on Google then I came upon your web site. I have to tell you that your site is very interesting I really like your theme!

I think Wood deserve that award...Hmnn why is it Baca withdrawing that award.

i love this post!

It's funny that a man can be lauded for his accomplishments and then flushed over a marital indiscretion.

I think Wood deserve that award...Hmnn why is it Baca withdrawing that award.

First time i have visited this site.I have read this blog,i noted that there are mostly good points which increase the importance of the blog.Nice work.Keep it up to write more good information.

you know it's always bad when they mix politics with sports, two things i dont think should ever be together.

I hope that these feelings have changed as TW need no awards

Tiger is one of the great elegant man.I dont think that its need to criticize him.

I think its not fair. California Democrat Joe Baca should not withdraw the bill to give the Congressional Gold Medal to golfing star Tiger Woods. Whatever the reason is but he has serviced the nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship.

Tiger Woods = the most over rated, over talked about, worthless golfer of all time. I have yet to discover what the obsession is all about, and yes, I've watched him play. it's disgusting.

I think that Tiger is one of the great sports figures of all time he is a class act but human in the fact that it came to light that he strayed off marital course. Let's embrace the guy and wish him well. Rod ook

Anything Joe Baca wants to do I am against - he is for Amnesty - to me that is treason and we should hang people for treason - and Tiger Woods a congressional medial of honor - for what - he is just a golfer - I have mored talent in my little finger than Tiger Woods - the worlds most famous limo driver - the most innovative person in NASCAR history - Guinness world record daredevil - former national motorcycle race champ

I have to admit i'm not much of a fan of golf.

I was sorry to hear about Woods and what he did but I have to say I am not surprised to hear it. When you have the fame he does I would think it would be hard to stay grounded.

Darn it. We've got people worried about their reputation in congress. Where are the classic statesmen?

I can understand why Congress didn't want to give him its gold medal, actually. It would reflect poorly upon them in the media, and that's something they need to care about more these days.

I support passing the bill to give the Congressional Gold Medal awarded by Congress to 'golfing star Tiger Woods' . I do believe ,they deserve it.

Thanks !

What tiger chooses to do in his personal life is up to him. I do not agree with it but he made those choices. I also think this is a good idea. Give them the gold medal.
