Take back Al Gore's Oscar, 2 Academy members demand in light of Climategate [Updated]

Ex-VP Democrat Al Gore clutches his 2007 Oscar--from his cold dead hands

No, it wouldn't do anything for the environment.

But two Hollywood conservatives (yes, there are some) have called upon the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to rescind the prestigious, profitable gold Oscar statuette that it gave ex-Vice President Al Gore et al two years ago for the environmental movie "An Inconvenient Truth."

A Top of the Ticket post Dec. 4 about former Vice President Al Gore and the film “An Inconvenient Truth” incorrectly reported that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded Gore an Oscar. Although Gore appeared in the film and participated in the Academy Awards ceremony, the Oscar was given to the movie for best documentary. The post also refers to the “leak” of controversial e-mails concerning research into global warming but did not explain how the documents were obtained. The e-mails were obtained by computer hackers who then leaked their contents to the public by posting them online.

Roger L. Simon and Lionel Chetwynd, both academy members, are among a small, meandering pack of known political conservatives still believed to be on the loose in the liberal bastion of movie-making.

In 2007, Hollywood's academy sanctified Gore's cinematic message of global warming with its famous statue, enriched his earnings by $100,000 per 85-minute appearance and helped elevate the Tennesseean's profile to win the Nobel Peace Prize despite losing the election battle of 2000 to a Texan and living in a large house with lots of energy-driven appliances.

Chetwynd and Simon were prompted to make their hopeless demand this week by the ...

... leak two weeks ago of a blizzard of British academic e-mails purporting to show that scientists at the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit systematically falsified data to document the appearance of global warming in recent years.

The university is reportedly investigating the claims, which added dry fuel to the never-ending political debate over whether the Earth really is warming as a result of human activity or if it's just normal natural cycles and the debate is what's heated. The demand to withdraw Gore's award provides yet another opportunity to argue.

The startling leak comes at an inconvenient time just before next week's United Nations climate change meeting that will cause an immense carbon footprint with thousands of people flying up or over to Denmark to talk about saving the environment.

These airplanes will include Air Force One with its primary passenger President Obama, who's returning to the Copenhagen scene where he didn't help win the 2016 Summer Olympics for Chicago, which could do with a little global warming at this time of year.

Simon, a screenwriter who is also chief executive officer of Pajamas Media, a network of conservative online blogs, conceded he knew of no precedent for the Academy withdrawing a previously-awarded Oscar, despite decades of Hollywood hijinks and worse. But, he added, "I think they should rescind this one."

Democrat ex-VP Al Gore talking about the environment

The controversial leaked documents have been assembled here by Pajamas Media and the Competitive Enterprise Institute. The joint demand by Simon and filmmaker Chetwynd is available on video here.

The television news-watching world in America has not learned much about the so-called Climategate scandal because it has not really been mentioned on the air except for a notorious cable news channel named for a three-lettered, wily, wild animal that often seems to revel in debunking liberal shibboleths.

Network news programs have been far more concerned with the obviously more important White House party-crasher story involving a couple of formally-dressed phonies.

The falsified documents do not come up in Gore interview excerpts published late last night here by Politico's John F. Harris and Mike Allen.

This week White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs claimed that global warming was no longer in dispute by most people. But a subsequent Rasmussen Reports poll of Americans finds only 1 in 4 adults believe that most scientists agree on the topic.

And while only 20% claim to have followed the leaked e-mail story Very Closely, nearly 60% believe it is at least somewhat likely that scientists have falsified environmental data to support their own global warming beliefs and theories.

WHY? Didn't they know it was for ACTING? I mean a BILLION people at least believed it was real. Almost NOBODY thought "Gone with the Wind" was real.

Wow, for the LA Times, this is an amazingly harsh column directed at the Goracle. Once again, we see that AGW is a hoax. Now, when does it become criminal in that there are folks who are hoping to make a lot of money based upon cap and tax, which will be based upon an obvious fraud.

"Chetwynd and Simon were prompted to make their hopeless demand this week by the ..."

What's so hopeless about it? Anything's possible - just look at our defacto president!

MAN BEAR PIG. Half MAN, Half BEAR, and half PIG. O GOD.

The broadcast networks have chosen correctly in making party crashers a higher priority than this nothing of a story.

Quoting out-of-context e-mails to provoke unwarranted outrage is not a news story, it's yellow journalism. On the other hand, yellow journalism does bring out the readers ...

"Network news programs have been far more concerned with the obviously more important White House party-crasher story involving a couple of formally-dressed phonies."

A couple of party crashers are more important than scientific and political fraud affecting our taxes and businesses? Really?

Please tell me that you are being sarcastic.

Count me in as a part of the movement to have Gore's Academy award and his Nobel prize stripped.

Gore was more effective in convincing President Clinton to beef up the US policy of extradordinary rendition and to put it in operation than he has been in this "GW" agenda. His once convincing act on ethanol, unfortunately, caused much economic hardship in the world and much hunger. Fortunately that has broadly been rejected now.

So far the political and entertainment sections of the LA Times has done a far better job of reporting on Climategate than the Science & Environment section has !

I love this newspaper !

Gore was not given an Oscar; there is no Oscar out in the world with his name engraved on it. If he held a statuette for a moment, that does not make it his. The movie in which he was featured, which was both produced and directed by others, won the award, and the director of that film was given the Oscar. The director's name appears on the Oscar. The continual statement of this erroneous idea -- "Gore won an Oscar" -- is pathetic when it occurs in "news" outlets.

It might be a little early and optimistic to yank an Oscar, but this climate-gate fraud is the biggest crime of the century. Not only is it an attempt to use lies to cripple our economy and steal vast sums of money-money that Gore has vested interest in, but it discredits the very foundations of modern society-science. Science, like law or medicine are suppossed to be held to the highest standards. The emails show they were preparing to destroy evidence to avoid a Freedom of Information order!! People should be going to jail, and I'm not talking about the whistle blower who outed this fraud.
If a documentary maker is found to have paid to create false information, and staged segments, what would be the Academy's position then?

Hooray for some sane people...this has eben a hoax from the beginning...the crime is portraying this so called "documentary" (which was exposed for its inaccuracies by an inquiring Irish journalist)as anything other than drama...Gore is a fraud along with the hoax called man made global warming...isn't it funny how Al always seems to be involved in some kind of controversy? remember the fiasco called the 2000 election ...this guy is a whining kook

I would like to add the following from Australia's Joanne Nova, which she uses to simplify the debate with 4 points.

1.The Greenhouse signature is missing.
2.The strongest evidence was the ice cores, but newer, more detailed data turned the theory inside out.
3.Temperature is not rising.
4.Carbon Dioxide is already doing almost all of the warming it can do.

These are all easy to check on the internet from creditable and noted scientist.

Do those things and then prosecute him for defrauding the world!

Amazing, The biggest scientific scandal/hoax in the history of mankind and you and the rest of the media are IGNORING it!

And you call yourselves Journalists?

Rescind? I think the United States Attorney's Office should be opening up an investigation into Mr. Bore (Gore) and his investment firms practices. Stock market manipulation, collusion activities, Intentional dissemination of erroneous scientific data for personal gain is nothing more than outright FRAUD.

Send this hack - packing.

Algore is a liar.
The truth does not fear nor hide from scrutiny and skepticism.
Global warming has been a Leftist lie all along. The debate is now over. And yet the Leftist liars keep blindly marching forward. Liberals have destroyed science with their politics. The liars need to go find something else to $tudy and lie about. Make it something more believable and less expensive to “fix” this time, eh boys. ;)

Al Gore did not win an Oscar for "An Inconvenient Truth." Davis Guggenheim won the Oscar for the film in the Documentary category, though it would have been more appropriate for it to have won as a Propaganda entry.

Geez, Mr's. Simon and Chetwynd: Do something positive for a change. Al Gore is just the messenger. There's a reason his movie was a hit. People do care about these things. They want their great-great-great-grandchildren to have a healthy planet to live on. Watching polar bears starve to death on film is alarming, as in, it sounds an alarm.

Every little thing that people do to decrease their footprint on this planet is a good thing, because, as we've seen in the last 200 years of manmade trash (industrial tools included), most people don't plan for the fate of their waste. If Al Gore has put that in people's minds a little more than they would have themselves, that's a good thing (and I do wish he'd solarize his home and use a fuel efficient car...).

I hope Mr's. Simon and Chetwynd have been considering the fate of their own product sources (local food!) and waste (hot air not included), and have kitchen or backyard composters, recycling bins at home and office, and high efficiency appliances and cars, because that would be good for THEM. And our planet. It's a good bandwagon to get on. Some morning far from now, they'll each wake up and realize it was good that they were recycling and composting and using local products in spite of how they didn't care about it way back then. If we and they are lucky, there will be forty years less of their thoughtless waste in some landfill, including all the paper they generated about Al Gore's Oscar.

By the way, I liked the humor in the blog. Jet fuel, indeed.

Just when it appears the MSM has any credibility left to lose, they find a little more to flush down the toilet.

The real scandal here isn't that petty, back stabbing individuals, like pretty much all humans are.

The real scandal is the MSM is refusing to cover it. Had the media done it's job over the last 15 years, and skeptically reported on the issue, the CRU would never have dared to pull this off.

But no. The story the MSM chose to cover was just how cool Al Gore and all the Hollywood types are who believed in this scam.

Which is probably why no one in the MSM wants to cover it. Makes them look unethical, incompetent, and the phonies they are.

I agree...take it back. Gore not only needs his Oscar stripped from him, but he needs to be in jail for prospering from his alarmist "theory". It's like insider trading.

It is about time someone shut this blow hard down. He is a phoney and a liar. Maybe they should prosecute him and even take away his nobel peace prize too! He won't hold an honest debate because he is afraid of the facts

what a fool Gore is...a rich fool for sure....take the oscar away from him as well as the millions he bilked from us!!! we shall take back our nation and Gore has no place in it...

Thats one petition I'd sign.

Al Gore never won an Oscar! The producers of the movie won it and he was not a producer.

Yes! I vote to take his awards away! And punish anyone who got our tax dollars to put forth this assault on the people's money!

Mr. Manbearpig is a colossal joke and a national shame.

Thank You!

I have a renewed faith that there is at least the beginning of some sanity out there!

Yes! Take back the award! Thank You!

Science has lied and cheated us, the mainstream media has abrogated their fourth estate obligations in favor of political expediency and and no one in the entertainment media seems to care. In fact, arch-leftists media personalities continue to make fun of conservative icons in a war of words and even attack the children of their political opponents. What a sewer these people live in.

This would be the perfect opportunity for the left (including the media and Hollywood!) to recognize reality and do the right thing! Enough of the lies, misinformation, cheating and cooked books. If The Academy pulled back its award to Gore, perhaps the Nobel Panel would follow suit and take back the Nobel awarded him. Perhaps that would wake them up to pulling back the other Nobel given for no cause to Obama. By rectifying mistakes in awarding people for cheating and lying, perhaps a level of respect could be achieved where world problems would be treated truthfully and fairly. The U.S. could lead this new initiative and restore its place as a fair and balanced world leader.

If nothing else, Gore has been exposed as the fraud we knew he was. Why don't the Hollywood elites admit this whole global warming debate is essentially over?
No more scientific credibility with those involved in perpetrating this hoax. Those scientists who refuted the findings were ostracised by the faux scientists. And now Gore cancels his climate summit. Why, Al, why?

Both Al Gore and Michal Moore never should have received the award in the first place. An academy rule is a documentary is supposed to be true. That would have disqualified both of these lairs. But then liberals never let facts get in the way of their agenda.

Maybe, just maybe, someday, people will wake up and realize the staggering amount of money being made by shamsters like Gore & Moore with marvelous support from the head-in-the-sand liberal base and just say no to them, their ideologies, and, above all, their "products". Of course, when that day happens, maybe, just maybe, people will also realize the staggering amount of money being spent by shamsters in the House and Senate who clearly put the proverbial drunken sailor to shame. Of course, by then it will be too late.

Wow. Climategate?? No global warming or climate change?? Yeah, if you deceive Americans, you get the boot! Oh, and yes take back those awards you lied to get. Shame on Al Gore!!!!

Climate-gate is a worldwide impact story that is getting NO coverage in the U.S. The old media is treating this as a total non-story despite it being completely applicable to the economies of MILLIONS of people in developed and undeveloped nations.

How can this not cause people to abandon the old news bastions by the thousands? Its content has been admitted to by the very scientists it accuses.

Has there ever been a better example of media control? I've never seen one.

Hey Bob Last.. You live in a parallel universe. The absolute inverse of what you claim is the truth. Its over. The biggest scam in human history is finally proveable. NOT AGW. I feel sorry for people like you who are so blinded by insanity. Guess what? Al Gore cannot save the planet. Weird, eh?

The Acadeny must wash their hands clean of this soot!

I support Roger Simon and Lionel Chetwynd's respective calls for the Academy to rescind the Oscar for, and conduct a public investigation of, the movie "Inconvienent Truth".

Gore wildly exaggerated the IPCCs findings, in his movie, to begin with. So now that we find the UN’s report was based on tainted research, it’s not that big a deal (or change). I.e., it was nonsense before this new revelation… now it’s just nonsense multiplied… which still just equals nonsense… :)

It's amazing how many fools ever believed in man made global warming. It's only the most simple mind which could be so easily led away from simple science.

Holy overtly biased story. I say take whoever wrote this stories degree back, stop putting your political agenda in the news.

Either way, whether global warming exists or not, shouldn't we strive to take care of our environment anyway?

eric of Resada writes "Simon & Chetwyn are clearly nuts. Ihope the rest of the Hollywood community isolates these guys. " Well isn't that what the climate scientists did. Isolate and denounce as wackos anyone that disagrees with the climate change agenda. Deny them access to publish papers. And of course make up the data that promotes the agenda. Honest Scientists have to sort out the bad evidence now and present to the public the good evidence, if any. Otherwise climate change will always be a questionable theory. And those that create legislation based on it will not get re-elected. The cap and trade will damage our economy. The climate change proponents had to keep the agenda going to preserve their cushy jobs supported by the govt. All the data and conclusions now are questionable.

Congress is discussing regulations based on "research" that allows no opposing views that will destroy what is left of our economy. "Climatologists" recommend boycotts of professional journals that may publish conflicting research results so they are not published and then claim that there is no conflict. Gore has made multi-millions "investing" in the man-made climate change remediation industry yet refuses to debate his "facts".
Yeah, Oscar deserves a better home. Hasn't Carrot Top made a movie lately?

Al Gore with all the rest of the criminals who attempted to destroy the worlds economies with this hoax, should be lined up against a wall and shot!

Hey, Milli Vanilli had their Grammy taken away for a fraudulent production.

What, you're afraid to mention Fox News by name? It is now the only legitimate news program on TV. Plus, you fail to mention that so many aspects of Gore's "documentary" rely on manipulated or falsified data like the "Global Warming" ney, "Climate Change" experts espouse.

Get a clue, the bastards that claim the sky is falling are doing so only to secure more grant money for further "research" to substantiate their claim. If you wonder about their motivation, then simply ask: "What's in it for them?" The answer is CA$H. Yours and mine. I don't have a problem with you giving them YOURS, but I sure as Hell have a problem with giving them MINE.

If you're holding your breath here, please stop! I don't want to see mass suicide!

Avalie, if you had taken a history class along with the environmental studies you claim, you would have found out that the Vikings grew crops in Greenland before the last naturally-occurring cooling period. AGW is, and always has been, a hoax and an attempt to transfer wealth from the taxpayers to the government for statist redistribution. Take a class, indeed!

Why should Hollywood be surprised he's just another phony in a town of phonies. His major sin is that he is a lying fraud that is scaring many people to enrich himself. He should be doing time at Leavenworth.

Al Gore ALWAYS refuses public debate with those who do not buy into man caused warming. He sells carbon credits, and has ammassed a fortune on his proaganda based sales pitch based on lies and falsified data. He belongs in prison right next to Bernie Madoff, and a refund to the taxpayers of the money he made through his FRAUD.

To Tired;

No one stated that the climate is not changing, only that the change is not caused by man. By just looking around you can see climate change, but you've only lived ever how many years old you are. the earth is billions of years old and we (man) have only been keeping records for just a little over a century. detecting CO2 in Ice does not work too well because we do not really know if the earth was on the same axis, or if the sun was different temperature. There are too many unknowns that haven't even been investigated to determine if man is causing a rise in temperatures. I do know this, if the population keeps growing we will need more land to grow crops and warmer temperatures to grow them in. What land we lose by higher sea levels will be more than tripled by cold places becoming warm enough to grow food.
