Democratic Vice President Joe Biden met with another former comedian today, Al Franken, who’s still trying to claim a U.S. Senate seat from Minnesota.

Things are just starting to move again these days as spring creeps across the Land of 10,000,000 Lakes (adjusted for oncoming inflation).

So they’re still actually counting and arguing up there over the votes cast last Nov. 4. Otherwise known around the White House of Barack Obama as el cuatro de once.

Unless Arlen Specter changes to the Libertarian Party this week now that he’s lost his perhaps-promised Senate seniority after dumping the Republicans for the Democrats, little Al could become the 60th vote in Harry Reid’s Senate gang of Democrats.

That way there will be at least someone beneath the 79-year-old Specter in seniority.

Anyway, Vice President Biden, who himself served in the Senate through most of Obama’s childhood, wanted to call attention to Al’s counting cause today. So he released the following statement:

Vice President Biden Issues Statement Following Meeting with Al Franken

The election process and recount in Minnesota have lived up to the state’s reputation for organization, transparency and bipartisanship. The officials have been meticulous and every ruling has been unanimous.

While Senator Amy Klobuchar is one of the hardest working members of the United States Senate, Minnesotans deserve their full representation.

Once the Minnesota Supreme Court has issued its final ruling in this case, the President and I look forward to working with Mr. Franken on building an economy for the 21st century.

Additionally -- this just in -- at noon Thursday (9 a.m. Pacific, 4 p.m. GMT) the Delaware Historical Society will present its 2009 Delaware History Makers Award to Biden. Nothing for 36 years in the Senate, but the big award after only 108 days with the Great Change Agent.
